Goldfish, Shubunkins, Lionheads, Fantails
Goldfish including Shubunkins, Lionheads & Fantails can equally be fed with flakes or pellets. Flakes allow smaller fish to take smaller bites and floats on surface whereas pellets are easier to dose and sink to the bottom where larger goldfish naturally look for food. API Goldfish Food includes spirulina, to enhance the vibrant colors of your goldfish, as well as garlic for appetite appeal, and it contains brewers dried yeast to provide essential micronutrients.
Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 2 minutes.
Tropical Fish, Tetras, Angelfish, Discus, Barbs, Guppies
Most tropical fish can equally be fed with flakes or pellets. Flakes allow smaller fish to take smaller bites and float at the surface whereas pellets are easier to dose and sink to the bottom where some fish naturally look for food. API Tropical Flakes are ideal for community tanks with different species. API Tropical Pellets exist in two different sizes, therefore are suitable for smaller mouth fish such as Gouramis and baby Cichlids.
Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 3 minutes.
Bottom Feeders, Catfish, Loaches
Some fish such as Catfish and Loaches are commonly called Bottom Feeders because they find their food at the bottom of the aquarium.
API Bottom Feeders are shrimp formulated sinking pellets that will fall directly to the bottom of the aquarium. Also suitable for Plecos.
Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 30 minutes.
Algae Eaters, Plecos, Ancistrus, Otocinclus
Like other tropical fish, some bottom feeders such as Plecos, Ancistrus & Otocinclus are herbivorous, also called algae or plant-eating bottom feeder fish. They use algae as their main source of nutrients. API Algae Eater Wafers are designed for fish that would normally scrape algae off rocks, wood (or reef in the case of marine fish).
Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 2 hours.

Tropical Algae & Plant Eaters, Swordtails, Mollies, Guppies
Some tropical fish such as Swordtails, Mollies, Guppies naturally eat plants or algae. They are called 'herbivorous' or 'algae or plant-eating fish'. These fish may eat unsightly algae but must have an additional source of food or they will starve. API Tropical Green Flakes are rich in algae and are also suitable for herbivorous cichlids such as Tropheus & Mbuna.
Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 3 minutes.
Cichlids, Angelfish, Discus, Oscar, Convict cichlids

Upon my return, the afternoon of day 5 (my test was only 4 days long and my trip lasted one extra day), I found all three of my fish not looking good and the water highly clouded. The fish were all sluggish and sitting at the bottom in the corner of the tank. One had red bruise-like spots visible under his chin, on his gill cover and on his "forehead" in between his eyes. When he swam he'd wobble a short way and sink back to the bottom where he'd sit. The other two were also sluggish and wouldn't move much. I thought for sure that we were going to lose at least one if not all three.
I immediately started working on the tank, removing the Vacation Pyramid Fish Feeder and cleaning it up. Within a short time, my fish started to move around again. It took a week or more before I got the one that was the worst, back to a more normal state. The marks all over him ended up clearing up as well but it took a while.
These fish have always been in great shape, no issues. My tank, never an issue. Five days with this thing and it made a mess in my tank at the bare minimum. I believe that because of tis product, my tank's quality was severely diminished causing some pretty noticeable distress in my fish that if left any longer might have resulted in their death. I recommend considering something else.
Tank: 28 gallon with 5 julii cories, 3 bronze cories, 7 cardinal tetras, 5 platies, some platy fry, and a faunus ater snail.
I dropped the feeding block in right before I left. I did a water change before dropping it in and fed the fish. I also added some seachem stressguard.
Upon my return, I found that the block reduced to about 1/5th of it's original size. All the fish are alive and well, and don't look either underweight or overweight. My plant health has deteriorated, but I attribute this to lights being of for the duration of the vacation. Water parameters after these 12 days read zero ammonia and nitrite, and ca. 50 ppm nitrate, which is not great not terrible.
The packaging for this thing states that it's intended to be used with a filter and an oxygenator in the tank. My filter is Aquaclear 30. Tank temp is 79 F. I do not have an oxygenator.
I'd feel safe using this product again, all in all. I'll note that aside from the cardinals all of my fish are the hardy type and I would be much more worried if I had some of the more finicky fish. I also don't think this would be good to use in a betta tank without cutting it to a smaller size first.

I thought vacationing with fish at home would be harder, but this product made it simple. Somehow my goldfish caught on and knew to nibble on the feeder. Easy transition back to flakes when we got home.
