Easy installation, good instructions for the hardware, fun & helpful tech
This is for a door with a single, lockable knob and no dead bolt like an interior door. Businesses have had these for decades but it feels like Star Wars technology to have it at home. I'm using this one on my workshop but it could be used inside a home or business home for privacy or safety or to just keep track of who goes in and out. The installer can set up multiple PINs and see who used the lock, how & when.I was so excited about getting this lock that I had it installed 30 minutes after the truck dropped it off. It went on a detached workshop/garage behind my house that only has a knob & no dead bolt. Installation was very straight forward and actually easier than the usual knobs with all of the wobbly shafts & screws that have to be lined up blindly. The components were very well packed in the box & it came with 4 AA batteries.Setting up the app & the rest took longer. The app itself was easy. There were no printed instructions for the Door Sense (little thing that tells the system if the door is closed all the way) or the Connect WiFi Bridge. The app has instructions for the door sense but the page wouldn't load. I just went by the picture to figure out where to put it. (I'll have to move it once I trim out the door.)With the app installed, the switch programmed and the door sensor added, I was able to see on the app if the door is open or closed, locked or unlocked, whether it was manually locked or by the keypad and who left it that way. The app can lock & unlock the door by Bluetooth if the phone is in the room or just outside. It can even be set to automatically lock when I leave and unlock when I get close.I really wasn't sure what the WiFi bridge was for and there was no mention of it in the box. As I tried to install it via the app I think I learned that it connects to the lock by Bluetooth and to WiFi allowing the user to get the same functionality without being withing Bluetooth range. I wasn't able to get it to connect to the WiFi from the detached workshop (though my TV is wireless out there & other devices work fine.I'm going to have to get a better WiFi signal outside to use this as intended. Someone told me I could monitor it with the Nest app as well and & would like to centralize the access. Once I get the WiFi bridge up I will try it with the Nest & update the review. The buttons are very dark and don't light until I press one. I am going to change the pin to start with a "1" so it will be easier to open in the dark. I love using this so much that I would give it 4.5 stars deducting for the WiFi being weak and the impossibly dark buttons.
