Product Description
The Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor is a small device that provides protection against potential big disasters. Just set it and forget it. The sensor monitors moisture and water leaks to prevent flooding, as well as sudden rises or drops in temperature. Easily install the sensor sinks and other household appliances that are prone to leaking and/or are temperature sensitive. The sensor must be used with the SmartThings Hub or other compatible device for functionality, along with the free SmartThings app for the ability to monitor and receive alerts through your phone when excess water or temperature changes are detected. The SmartThings app can be used on Android 6. 0 or later, or iOS 10. 0 or later. This device is compatible with the SmartThings ADT security hub, but is not compatible with ADT professional monitoring services. This SmartThings smart home accessory is intended for indoor use and is only available in the U.S.

Original review:
Works great with the Wink Hub 2. It doesn't show up as a water detector but set up was pretty straight forward...up and running in a few minutes. I recently had all the sensors go offline though but I believe it was something with the hub, had to reboot it and they all came back online so not an issue with the sensors. That has only happened once in the 6+ months I've owned these (currently have 4 and will be adding more). I use these around water sources like hot water tank, refrigerator water line, etc so if a leak is detected it will alert me and it will tell my main water valve to shut off. For the price, ease of setup, the fact that batteries are still 100% and the small size, I'm giving it 5 stars. Thought about 4 stars for the fact that they don't show up as a water detector in the Wink Hub but realized that it an issue most likely with Wink.
They are not worth $50.
alarm it only works from my phone. will be looking to upgrade soon.
I configured the SmartThings hub to send a push notification to my phone if a leak is detected. When testing the sensor, I was pleasantly surprised by two things. First, it is extremely sensitive. All I had to do was lick a finger and put it across the probes and they set off with that small amount of moisture. Second, when I tested it, I received the push notification on my phone in about two seconds. Both of these characteristics are exactly what I want in a leak detector.
The battery life appears to be pretty good. In two weeks, the battery has only dropped 2%. At that rate, the battery should last just under two years.
Finally, I just ordered 4 more of these sensors for other plumbing locations in my home, hence the 5 star rating.
This is an issue as I need to know when these things are working or not working and right now Smart things shows a powered down device as working. I'm going to leave it without a battery and see what it's like in the morning. If I still have issues I will need to send this back.
OK it works.. it took 30 min to show up on my smart things app but it did display the unit as offline within 30 min. NICE...

In any case, I chose the smartthings GP-U999SJVLCDA water leak sensor because it was zigbee based (as opposed to wifi), and because it was the lowest priced unit I could find that looked like it would meet my needs. I also felt that a smartthings product would be more likely to work successfully than an unknown brand. I would have preferred a z-wave product, but zigbee was fine because the hubitat elevation hub supports both zigbee and z-wave.
Setup of the water-leak sensors was a breeze. Literally just required pulling out the battery-protection tab on the water leak sensor, then running zigbee device discovery on the hubitat hub. I could test the water-leak capability by using a coin to short-out the water-probes (which are duplicated on the top and bottom of the water leak sensors). By doing so I could see when a unit indicated "wet" or "dry".
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the water-leak sensors also act as temperature sensors. Not as surprisingly, the water leak sensors also report their battery level - so I can also set up alerts from my hub to tell me when a battery needs replacing. Also, the units are very small and unobtrusive.
I tested them out after first setting them up (which is a pretty brainless affair of putting the smartthings hub into discovery mode for them and scanning a QR code which is located on each device), it only took a few drops of water before both my wife and I got notifications on our phones to tell us that the sensor had detected water (nearly instantly). While this is better than we had before (first warning sign of seeing damage, or water dripping from a ceiling in the basement) my next step is to find a deal on an automatic valve closer so that when a sensor detects water it will just trigger shutting the water off to the whole house automatically. It is such a natural and useful response that I think all houses should have this.
Interestingly these aren't just leak sensors, each one of them also functions as a temperature sensor which you can reference current and historical temperatures from in the app but also to build automation around just like the water detection (things like turn a space heater on with a smart plug in the same area as a water leak sensor which is reading a temperature below a certain range). While the temperature sensor is less useful to me than it might otherwise be because I already have Nest temperature sensors all over the place that work directly with my thermostat I believe I paid just as much if not more for each single purpose Nest temperature sensor than I did for each of these Water Leak + Temperature sensors.
I haven't had them long enough to have any commentary on battery life, I'll update in a few months on how things are going, but over the course of the month that I've had them they are all still high 90's battery percentage so no immediate issues there. Battery replacement seems simple, and I've pre-stocked some of the batteries for when they eventually go.
