Product Description

The Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor is a small device that provides protection against potential big disasters. Just set it and forget it. The sensor monitors moisture and water leaks to prevent flooding, as well as sudden rises or drops in temperature. Easily install the sensor sinks and other household appliances that are prone to leaking and/or are temperature sensitive. The sensor must be used with the SmartThings Hub or other compatible device for functionality, along with the free SmartThings app for the ability to monitor and receive alerts through your phone when excess water or temperature changes are detected. The SmartThings app can be used on Android 6. 0 or later, or iOS 10. 0 or later. This device is compatible with the SmartThings ADT security hub, but is not compatible with ADT professional monitoring services. This SmartThings smart home accessory is intended for indoor use and is only available in the U.S.

Once hacked it became the tool I needed
I couldn't find a reasonably priced in crock sump pump water sensor anywhere so I opted to buy one of these and play with it. $20 isn't a lot to loose for a quick mad scientist project if it makes my home more efficient. After drilling a small hole and connecting about 50 cents worth of thermostat wiring to the sensor posts, I was able to place a lead in the sump crock that will alert me if the water ever rises above the sump pump activation sensor. I was able to position the leads positioned about a 1/4 inch above the highest water line in my crock and put the sensor beside my air conditioning condensation overflow/drip pan so I effectively have one sensor for either type of water issue. Combined with a $25 siren and a "turn on all lights in the house" automation, this is the perfect gadget for giving me a 15-30 minute head start on replacing my sump pump if it ever fails. Which is enough time to save my basement from flooding. Downsides: Smart Things Push notifications do not appear on my phone unless I open the app and the list although you can activate any device or scene. Also, the Alexa App does not recognize these particular sensors, which is a huge downside since I have integrated all of my Smart Things into the Alexa app to enable voice capabilities. Using Amazon's routines to create a work around to the lack of Smart Things Push notifications isn't an option at the moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRICE... WORKS... ONLY FEAR IS MY DOG WILL EAT IT....
Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2019
So ... This Sensor appeared to work OK and detected water but I do have one MAJOR issue with it. When I was done playing with it.... I pulled the battery out to not drain it while I wait for the other 5 sensors I ordered tonight. I noticed in the smart things app the system shows as still active even though it's been powered down for the past 15 minuets.
This is an issue as I need to know when these things are working or not working and right now Smart things shows a powered down device as working. I'm going to leave it without a battery and see what it's like in the morning. If I still have issues I will need to send this back.
OK it works.. it took 30 min to show up on my smart things app but it did display the unit as offline within 30 min. NICE...
