About this item
- Ceramic: This ceramic knife sharpener will make a great addition to your knife sharpening system featuring a sturdy handle and ceramic rod that will rapidly touch up your edges.
- Right Size for the Job: This Lansky knife sharpener measures 11.88" overall with an 8" rod, the ideal length for most knives when it's time to hone a new edge.
- Medium Grit: Grit is critical for knife sharpener stones and ceramic rod knife sharpeners. This Sharp Stick features a medium grit (800) that can both refine an edge and remove some material when needed.
- Instructions: Place the tip of the knife sharpener tool on a stable surface. Grip the handle firmly. Try to match the bevel angle of the knife to the sharpener and then draw the knife edge down the rod as if you were attempting to slice a thin layer off the rod – repeat this motion 3-4 times using light to moderate pressure. Repeat on the other side of the blade. Maintain a consistent angle for the best results.
- Maintenance Tip: Use Nathan's Honing Oil (not included) or the Lanksy Eraser Block (not included) to clean the Ceramic Sharp Stick when it gets clogged with sharpening detriment. These are great additions to your kitchen knife or pocket knife sharpening kit.

Take care to learn how to use it and keep the correct angles when honing and you can keep a great edge on your kitchen knives. Keep in mind, this is NOT sharpener, it is for honing. It wont bring a super dull or damaged edge back.
BE CAREFUL! This is ceramic and unsupported so it will shatter if you drop it.
It's been a great thing to have around and allows me to quickly and easily touch up or sharpen a knife in general. I like it and keep it handy in the kitchen. It sees regular use and keeps my blades ready to cut like a champ and do some serious work. I used it to bring back some of a friends knives that had gotten to a rather bad point that he was considering just buying all new knives. (He didn't know how to sharpen a knife properly). A couple minutes to even very dull blades and you will be back to cutting easily.
If you don't know how to use one of these just look it up on youtube, I've been using these types of rods for many years, though it's only recent that it is easier to get a hold of the ceramic type rods.
Update: Oct. 2014
I've had this for another year now, originally reviewed this Oct.2013, and it's still going strong. I regularly use this rod to touch up my knives in the kitchen and to touch up my pocket knife collection. At this point there is only slight signs of wear on this rod but given how much it gets used, it's doing outstanding. In several cases I should have pulled out one of the larger lower grit stones and used that first before the rod to get the re-profiling set before using this product but never the less it still sharpened the knives and it still has a very long way to go before I even need to worry about replacing it.
Wear signs are minimal at this point and it's an outstanding product in my opinion at this time.
Steal working like a champ. Remember to clean the rod every now and then. Nothing fancy needed, Just rinse in warm soapy water, dry off and start using again.
I am a newbie to knives and sharpening of said objects. In a short time I have discovered that there are knife snobs, sharpening stone snobs, knife brand snobs. They believe you must spend big(ger) money to get a proper stone that will not completely destroy your $500 KNIFE!
nah...BUY ONE OF THESE. i DROPPED IT THEY MOMENT i OPENED THE PACKAGE (THE CAP DOES NOT COME OFF Easily and it jerked out of my hand and slid out of the package onto the cement floor in my garage with no harm. Would not do it again but thought I made it useless as it dropped through the air. I have used this to sharpen some of my cheap kitchen knives, and some of my better kitchen knives (none cost over $45). They are now sharp. My cheapest beater knife probably cost $5...used this and I can now cut tomatoes with it! Learn how to do basic sharpening with this ceramic rod and you will have sharp knives forever. If you are not a master sushi chef making the big bucks...do not waste your money on overly expensive designer products. This works great!
