Maintenance Tips
Your vehicle’s struts slowly deteriorate over time, though this wear is normally difficult to detect. Worn struts can also cause additional wear to other vehicle components. To maximize your vehicle’s ride comfort, it’s recommended to inspect your vehicle’s struts every year. Be sure to always refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for additional vehicle maintenance practices. Potential affected components may include ball joints and other suspension components, brakes, and tires. The following should be checked by a qualified technician:
- Leaking oil or wetness along the body of the shock or strut
- Broken mounts
- Broken, damaged, or missing mounting hardware
- Dented reservoir tube
- Bent or scratched piston rod
- Cupped tire wear
- Damaged spring seat, spring
FAQ
- Is there a difference between a shock and a strut? Yes. While shocks and struts perform a similar function, they vary greatly in their design. The major difference between shocks and struts is that a strut is a structural part of the vehicle’s suspension system, while a shock is not. A strut is also a crucial part of the vehicle’s steering system and greatly affects alignment angles. S
- hould I have my vehicle aligned after replacing my shocks or struts? You should have your vehicle aligned if you are replacing your vehicle’s struts. However, it’s not necessary to get your vehicle aligned when replacing your vehicle’s shocks unless there was a previous issue. D
- o I need different shocks or struts for front, rear, left, or right applications? Yes. It’s important to choose the correct shock or strut for your vehicle model and year, as well as for the location in the vehicle.

After several hours, got them both installed on the vehicle, then came the moment of truth with the test drive. The cracks in the pavement that used to send a jar through the vehicle now are just a light thump. The front suspension actually has some give to it again, and the bouncy effect is gone. Ride has gone from a lumber wagon to a flexible firm ride - what I would expect from an SUV. Initially I thought the jarring from pavement cracks was due to the 22" tires with the lower sidewall height, now I'm not so sure. I was cursing the Bridgestone Dueller tires of having a stiff sidewall with no give that was causing the jarring - but now have to reconsider that. AC Delco publish a limited lifetime warranty on these struts - so if they fail again, I'll find out if they honor that warranty. The rear struts were replaced just before we bought the vehicle with 45K on it, so they are good.
For those that are experiencing the rough bouncy ride, jarring from cracks in the road, and just an overall unpleasant ride experience, you may want to take a close look at the struts. Seems the failure mode of the MRC struts is either an external oil leak and/or partial seizure, vs. a typical failure mode of a shock that loses its oil, but continues to extend/retract w/o supplying any damping effect.

Also, it's highly recommended that you replace these shocks in pairs! If one goes out, always replace the other side at the same time. However, it's not necessary to replace the other two from the other end of the vehicle if they currently seem fine. Remember that the rear shocks will be a completely different part number as well.
If you're looking for new shocks already, or if your Escalade is approaching 80,000 miles (seems to be the time these shocks like to give out according to other posts on the Internet), I would not hesitate to order these shocks from Amazon right now. They are an insane deal and for this price may not be around forever.
On a side note, when I placed my order, the shipping estimate said "1-2 months." This is due to Amazon having no actual stock until I placed my order. It was probably the first order for the shocks in a long time, if ever. A helpful representative informed me that they were indeed backordered and they had no ETA for me. Luckily, in reality, it only took 12 days total from order time to receiving them. So if it says 1-2 months again, don't worry. They should arrive way before that.
Many online forums will tell you that the Z95 RPO code means your vehicle has Magneride suspension. That is true...but the Z95 code specifies Magneride for the REAR suspension. The RPO codes for FRONT (LHS/driver side) Magneride option, are (6LJ), (6LK), (6LL), (6LM), (6LN), (6LP), (6GP), (6EQ), (6EM), (6G1). The FRONT (RHS) RPO codes are the same, but with a '7XX' instead of the '6XX'. The struts are the same for both LHS and RHS. (Just the RPO codes are different.)
So, check your RPO code sticker in the glove box and compare to the 'Fitment Notes' in this listing. Based on that, these struts are the correct OEM branded Magneride FRONT units for my vehicle.
Hope this saves you some time and frustration.
