Customers like the reception of the antenna. They say it works well both wired and wireless, and it boosted the performance of their AM radios. Some mention that it works equally well using the wired connection and that it can help a lot for the stations they're able to receive. Some customers also mention that the quality of the reception has improved.
"...This little device has so boosted the performance of my AM radios that I can't imagine owning an AM radio without one." Read more
"...However, the antenna serves its purpose. It greatly helps the AM reception which is pretty sucky in my bedroom...." Read more
"...The volume did not appear to increase but the quality improved and I did not need to move the antenna around a lot as I usually do...." Read more
"...It strengthens the radio signal that it tunes in...it does NOT clean up that signal for you. A good, large antenna brings weak signals in stronger...." Read more
Customers find the antenna easy to use. They mention that it's amazingly simple, but it works well. The wire is also exceptionally easy to connect, and it took only a few minutes to complete the test. Customers also appreciate the low price and ease of use, saying that it works inductively and does not require batteries or wires.
"I like the antenna. The set up is easy though flimsy. The connecting wires have no way to stay in place, so can come out easily...." Read more
"...The Terk antenna took just a few minutes to set up. The instructions are easy to follow to determine the best position for the antenna relative to..." Read more
"It's amazingly simple but it works so well. Just set it next to your radio and rotate the loop and then tune it in...." Read more
"...Very easy to install and fine tune channels...." Read more
Customers generally like the tuning of the antenna. They mention that it is sensitive, but quite adequate for bringing in long range BC signals, it's easy to tune to the desired frequency, and it has a calibrated dial on the tuning capacitor. The loop tuning is much more broad, and the tuning resonance of this antenna is quite sharp, which in my opinion indicates a very good design.
"...Very easy to install and fine tune channels...." Read more

"...the radio station is not beaming a signal to you, this antenna can't tune in the station's signal...." Read more
"...to the loop, stations came in 2-4 times stronger, and the loop tuning was much more broad -- you could be off by a half-inch or more and still..." Read more
Customers like the clarity of the antenna. They mention that it works well and brings in local AM stations with great clarity and consistency. Some say that the signal is audible, but it might not be as pleasant as a local AM.
"...With the Terk, local stations come in crystal clear on my tube radio that is nearly 80 years old, and the first night I played with it I was pulling..." Read more
"...all but the barely there daytime signals and even those signals were almost listenable...." Read more

"...With this Terk antenna, I get several local AM stations with clarity and consistency." Read more
Customers are mixed about the value of the antenna. Some mention that it is well worth the money, the best affordable passive loop they have found, and a good buy. Others say that it was money wasted, terrible, and overpriced for what it does.
"...testing for hours, yes it did work a little bit, but not at all worth the effort or the money. Will be returning for a refund." Read more
"...Done. Well worth the money!!!!!!" Read more
"...The antenna is a bit pricey but I think some of the really cheap antennas are a false value so in this case you get what you pay for." Read more
"...It was well worth every penny that I paid for it. Nice engineering/design job TERK!!!!! Great product!!" Read more
Customers are mixed about the sound quality of the antenna. Some mention that the audio quality is BUZZ-FREE and the signal strength is vastly improved, while others say that the AM sounded AWFUL. The antenna is foldable, but some customers complain that the static volume boosted as well. Some customers also mention that there is a slight hiss in the background.
"...It’s not perfectly clear but clear enough to listen comfortably with just a little background fuzz...." Read more
"...all showed improvement in either hearable signal strength, less or no noise or hiss, and in the case of the RS, louder volume on weak stations..." Read more
"...but with the 15-foot wire antenna supplied with the set, it sounded only fair--lots of noise, even with strong local AM stations...." Read more
"...This antenna arrived 15 minutes ago. INSTANTLY the audio quality is BUZZ FREE and signal strength is vastly improved...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the static of the antenna. Some mention that it eliminates the static, while others say that AM signals were weak and the static was terrible.
"...The antenna caused the volume to go higher then down but never fixed the static issues...." Read more
"...Now my signal is loud and clear and no static...." Read more
"...I was able to pick up that sports station, but it was VERY staticky, and almost impossible to comprehend what was being said...." Read more
"...Yes it does help toimprove reception, and helps to reduce static, just don't expect too much.. I have tried other antennas and this one..." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the antenna. They mention that it does little to improve AM reception, and the radio has no AM antennae. The antenna is not attached directly to the radio, and it sits near it. Customers also say that the antenna is side-dependent, and that choosing the right side is important. Overall, customers are disappointed with the quality and performance of the antenna, and recommend avoiding it.
"...Daytime I use a Sony Boombox at work, it has no antenna input so I couple the TERK wirelessly...." Read more
"...Unfortunately when placed on the shelf, I was unable to pick up AM OR FM at all, even using the dipole antenna...." Read more
"...to middling reception from some NYC stations, and very weak reception from Philly stations and Jersey shore stations...." Read more
"...It sometimes helps to rotate the antenna depending on atmospherics...." Read more

I did my homework and spent a couple of days reading about loop antennas. I'm not very technical, so I decided to purchase, rather than try to build, a loop antenna. After reading all the reviews I could find, I decided to give the Terk Advantage a try.
The Terk can be used via inductive coupling--that is, with no direct connection to the radio--provided you have a fairly modern AM radio that has an internal antenna. But my old tube radio required me to connect the antenna to the set directly with the supplied cable. The 6-foot cable plugs into the base of the Terk. The cable terminates with two bare wires. Attach one of these wires to the antenna terminal, and the other to the ground terminal. (If you attach both wires to the antenna terminal, as I did when I first hooked it up, it won't work.)
Begin by setting the dial at the base of the Terk to roughly the same setting as the station to which the radio is set. Next, tune the radio's dial until you get the best reception. Then tune the dial on the Terk--again, until you get the best reception. Finally, remember that loop antennas are directional. Rotate the loop in small increments until you further adjust the reception (when it's out of alignment, you'll hear very little).
Almost instantly, the difference in reception was impressive--noticeably better than the wire strung in the tree. With the Terk, local stations come in crystal clear on my tube radio that is nearly 80 years old, and the first night I played with it I was pulling stations in from New York and Quebec (I'm in Massachusetts).
The Terk is small enough so that it can sit behind the set unseen (as a modern loop antenna just doesn't look right sitting atop a vintage tombstone radio)--aesthetically much nicer than wire strung around the room.
To test the Terk's inductive coupling--that is, to use it wirelessly--I used a small portable Grundig radio that had belonged to my father. This radio is perhaps 30 years old. The radio has a tuning light that lights up red when you lock on a station. I tested it by finding AM stations for which I could get some reception, but would not make the light come on. I followed basically the same steps described above: First, tune the radio to the best reception you can get. Then pre-tune the Terk to the radio's same approximate setting. Next, place the Terk next to the radio and fine-tune the dial on the Terk to get the best reception. Finally, move the Terk in a circular motion, keeping it next to the radio, to further tune it.
Using the Terk in this manner, I was almost always able to get the tuning light to light up and greatly improve the radio's reception. And even when the tuning light did not light up, reception was still greatly improved.
For those reviewers who wrote that the Terk did nothing to improve reception, I just can't believe they were using it correctly. You'll have to play with this a bit to get the feel of using the Terk with your particular radio, but this is within anyone's capabilities. This little device has so boosted the performance of my AM radios that I can't imagine owning an AM radio without one.
On a strong station nearby I noticed no improvement at all and mistuning it had little or no effect. On a different radio, hooked up with the wires, on the same strong station, there was no effect. This antenna replaced a 4 inch wire loop antenna. At night when the FCC makes most AM reception useless due to power reductions I was able to receive this same strong station with a lot less fading and distortion. The volume did not appear to increase but the quality improved and I did not need to move the antenna around a lot as I usually do. Do not expect to pick up weak stations at night. This made me happy because this is the station and time of day I listen to. Of course it is a bigger antenna. Since this is a tuned antenna, if you wish to search the AM dial for stations, this will be a royal pain since radio and antenna will need to be adjusted simultaneously. I did not check this across the AM band or on a multitude of stations - just where I was interested so take this for what it's worth.
Changing Cell-Phone Providers & buying a newer, more powerful Smart Phone fixed that situation.
But, nothing I did improved my AM-Radio reception! I have two "BOSE Radio-CD" radios, that I tune to & play the same AM Radio Station from 8:30 A.M.--6 P.M., Monday-Fridays.
They Receive usually-excellent AM signals with their BOSE Internal AM-Antennas. But, not here! Three months after moving here, my ONLY solution was to pay $25.00/month for a Cable-T.V. AM/FM radio Cable. Paying $300.00/year for AM-Radio reception was unacceptable! So I called "BOSE Tech-Support, and they recommended this Item: The "Terk AM Advantage."
I promptly Googled "Terk AM Advantage," and was surprised to see that amazon.com was selling it.
It is a very Unique electronics item in that (1) It can ONLY be used for improving AM-Radio reception, (2) It works both by-Wire & Wirelessly, and (3) It has a manual-Tuner that is gauged ONLY for Am-radio Stations!
After using it following the "Terk User's Guide" instructions, it did not {seem to} work!
After using It and adjusting It for 2 weeks, I could not get it to increase my AM-Signal strength. So I decided to tell amazon.com about It's failure to help my situation & ask for a refund, which amazon {of course} agreed to.
On the day I was shipping it back, I decided to give the Terk one more try.
And--I am glad I did that!!
I did 2 things differently! (1) I placed it On-Top of the "BOSE Radio-CD," instead of placing it it on the sides.
Then, from that position of sitting on top of the Radio, (2) I engaged & started to turn the Tuner. The station I wanted to receive was 1150-AM. As soon as the Tuner got into range at 1000, the signal got progressively stronger as I turned it closer to 1150. Amazingly, as it got closer to 1150, the sound went from a convoluted mess of Stations right to one Station only and played Clear & Strong at 1150-AM!
I recommend this Item without reservation!

To get these results you do need start with a decent radio. Something with some sensitivity. The C Crane is a great all purpose radio. I've gotten the best results using this antenna in combination with the Sony ICF-SW7600GR. You just can't go wrong with this classic Sony model for all frequencies for it's price range.
As other users here pointed out with full explanation, you do need to know the bare bones about radio to make this work for you. Having said that, if you refuse to read up a bit and learn something beyond what our current push button smartphone app world has become.....sorry you won't get instant results with radio DXing. Read a bit about radio, and the difference between FM, MW, and SW and how it all works. I'd mention LW too, but it's no longer applicable in North America. AM(MW) is a great intro to DXing.
Overall, this antenna is a great choice for the money and very easy to use. There is no setup, no wires to hang around your living quarters, no giant loops to place in windows, etc. You really can't go wrong for the price.
