1. Make sure you start with the larger hole opening on the metal brackets ABOVE the smaller opening/channel. That way when you are locking them in place you are putting pressure downward to lock them into the more narrow channel. Once you lock them in they won't move or disconnect. It gets easier as you go - getting the bottom portion put together is the worst part (I was doing it alone).
2. Make sure you have the 4 metal pieces (about 6 inches long) that connect the shelves in the middle. Mine were loose in the box so it would be easy to leave these in the box.
3. When installing start at the very bottom and put the wood shelves in as you work your way up - this gives it more stability as you go. Don't try to just do all the metal parts first and put the shelves in last. Put them in as you go.
4. Getting the metal pieces completely locked into place wasn't easy and I couldn't do it by hand. I used a block of wood and a hammer to gently tap the brackets down into the groove. Once I did this the frame was very sturdy.
