Hypertech

With deep roots in the automotive aftermarket, Hypertech is a technology-driven company, dedicated to enhancing the performance of cars, trucks and off-road vehicles. Founded in 1985 by Mark Heffington, the company got its start by engineering and manufacturing onboard computer reprogramming devices. During this time, auto manufacturers were in the early stages of fuel injection and computerized engine management. It was truly a turning point in the automotive industry and sent a shockwave through the aftermarket, as there were no immediate high-performance products available for these seemingly high-tech machines of the 1980’s.

Product Description

Hypertech's Power Coil is capable of firing a street or slightly modified engine up to 7000 RPMs. Voltage gain over stock can exceed up to 57% more output depending on application. Stock coils usually average around 36,000 volts as compared to Hypertech's coil kits that average between 45,000 and 55,000. Our coil kits include coil, brass terminals, cap, and rotor. Nylon rotor hold-down screws are included to prevent misfire, and our caps are made of high dielectric material to prevent carbon tracking. Each cap fits the distributor housing tightly to eliminate leakage. Power Coil/Caps/Rotors are NOT legal for sale/use in CA.

    Aluminum contact terminals in distributor cap are always heavily corroded upon inspection. Brass has copper in it. Pure copper even better. This part will undoubtably last longer. I simply trust US made parts over cheaper knockoff parts! If it is only a few dollars more, why take the chance on getting lower quality bargain parts?

    I have to say that this replaced an Accel distributor cap and rotor and the rotor from Hypertech was more snug than the one it replaced. I am sure that I would not have to worry if the fit was loose since the cap would hold it in place, but I feel better knowing that there is no up and down movement on the rotor.
    The Accel cap and rotor lasted me about 3 years so it was getting time to replace it and after changing it out, there was a noticeable improvement in how smooth the engine was running. I am very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend this cap and rotor.
    There was one issue that I had, and that was the screws that hold the cap down, they seemed a little small, in fact I could not tighten one down since it seemed that my distributor was stripped. I replaced the screws with the ones from the cap that I just removed and I was able to tighten the screws.
