"...multiple programs that I had tested I was seeing that the lines were coming out pixel-y. It actually wasn’t a problem with the monitor that time but..." Read more

No, unfortunately the title is not a typo…I CANNOT recommend you purchase a drawing tablet from XP-Pen, as the product quality, support, and experience has been sub-par…and ultimately, I am extremely frustrated. I’ll explain the entire story below:A few months back (June 2021), I was browsing different drawing tablets online, from multiple different retailers, such as Amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc. My requirements were to find a drawing tablet with at least 4096 pressure levels, 1080p display, and at least 12 inches. My reason for purchasing this product was that I am going to college (where I currently am now) and the school required a drawing tablet for the students to have based on the classes that I will be taking. I wanted something that would at least last 2 years (until my junior year) that I could use to get experience with drawing digitally and computer art. I also needed a tablet that was either $400 or less, as I am on a budget (as a college student).Knowing all these requirements that not only my college needed but I wanted, I dove into research (as this was a big purchase for me) and I wanted a high-quality product that could last a long time. I looked on multiple different websites and products (as mentioned earlier) and came to know three big brands known as XP-Pen, Huion, and Wacom. (I know there are others, but these were the three that appeared the most through my video and essay research). Of the three, Huion and XP-Pen were cheaper, and Wacom was more well known and broadly recommended. All seemed to have good reviews though, and, ultimately, due to the price between the XP Pen and others (in addition to the tablet being on sale for $169), I decided to ultimately purchase the XP-Pen ARTIST 12 (non-pro version). The tablet shipped and I received the package. I ended up leaving the box shut as I just knew I would need to take it with me (to college) a few weeks after I ordered it and didn’t want to get everything out and disorganized. By the time I moved into college, the return policy period had passed, and I got everything out and set up. I left the drawing tablet in its box for a couple of weeks after moving in and opened it all up after needing to use it for an assignment. I opened the box, and I will say that everything was very neat and well thought out of (in the sense of organization). Everything was well secured and wrapped. I unwrapped all the items and set up the tablet with an XP-Pen brand aluminum stand that I also purchased for this product (off eBay). I will say the stand is a product that I can recommend, so if you are looking for a stand, it is a decent product unlike this drawing tablet. After setting everything up, following the provided instructions, I went ahead and plugged in the tablet to my pc and into the wall (for extra power). I appreciated the tablet came with a usb extender for the wall outlet…but let’s just say that led into different issues I have had to deal with later. Anyways almost immediately after setting it up, (maybe 10 minutes or so of usage) the tablet started to flicker. At first it wasn’t bad, but noticeable. But as time went on, it got to the point where the background of my computer’s home screen would burn through the tablet’s main page, not respond to pen input (even though the pen did not have nor need a battery to function), and even just move around the screen on its own. Because of this, I contacted amazon, who told me to contact XP-Pen, which I did so.During my discussion with XP-Pen and the issues I had with the Artist-12 I ended up having to ship back the tablet. This is fine…until I had to pay return shipping…for a product that was sent to me defective. I did get sent the replacement without having to pay shipping, but honestly felt the fact that they told me that “We'll cover the 1 round shipping fee (we’ll pay the shipping fee sending the a brand new Artist12 to you” quoted from the chat messages I had with the company’s support. So, I ended up shipping it back, which cost me a nice $40…which I asked about getting refunded but was denied, being told “I am very sorry that we caused your misunderstanding, the 1-month refund policy must make you confused, which is our mistake. Whether to compensate our customers for the cost of returning defective products depends on whether the order is within 1 month. Unfortunately, one month has passed for the old or new orders.” I honestly felt totally ignored and just almost as if XP-Pen just was glad that it had passed one month so I couldn’t get a refund. On top of this, after getting the new tablet shipped in (no padding within the box to protect it, almost surprised that it showed up working) …the USB cable was faulty! I couldn’t connect the cable to my computer since it was too out of its socket (see pictures, will upload later this week). So I then had to go and purchase another USB extension cable for around $8 from amazon, and I’m just honestly really tired of having to deal with new issues for a product I expected to work from outside the box. I understand that there are bad apples, but I have experienced this before with different websites like eBay for example and was able to get a prepaid shipping label to ship back the faulty product and refund. This entire process has been a headache, and I am going to contact Amazon Support later this evening to try and see if I can get a full refund (or even some money back at this point is better than dealing with this tablet).Ultimately, just avoid this tablet. Purchase something more expensive (like the Wacom One) with a warranty. Thanks for reading, and I’ll update this review going forwards.
