About the author

C. M. Sutter has spent most of her adult life in Wisconsin but in 2017 decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved to Tampa, Florida.
She has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
Ms. Sutter is a world traveler and her sense of wanderlust fits in well with creating locations for her books. When her schedule permits, she can be found on an airplane plotting her next novel. She enjoys visiting relatives scattered across the USA and visits as often as possible.
Walking, gardening, and creating art is high on her list of activities. When time allows, making hand-made soaps is one of her favorite pastimes.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2025I read this book in less than a day. It was entertaining and held my attention. There were some things I think could have been different with technology that's available or that are common police procedures, but it's a book, just like fiction on tv. Held my attention. Yes. Took my imagination into the story? Yes. That's a goid book for me!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2024Positives: Sympathetic protagonist, suspenseful situation, high stakes. I did want to find out what happened next.
Negatives: Some lazy writing at times. The characters frequently "huffed" or "groaned" before speaking. I didn't count them up, but it got to the point where I shook my head or laughed at the repeated use of the verbs. A pet peeve: poor exposition as two of the criminals recount their background as if they needed to lay out the details to each other. Another pet peeve: a criminal racks a semiautomatic handgun after holding it on the protagonist for some minutes, meaning that the character was holding a gun that had no bullet in the chamber (and yes, the protagonist couldn't know that, but the criminal would know that if the hero attacked the weapon wouldn't fire). Finally, the revelation of one criminal came as no surprise.
Still, all in all, a mostly enjoyable read.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2025This novel kept me turning the page, eager to discover if a cop’s missing sister and co-worker would be found and survive. The author didn’t trust the reader, however, to draw obvious conclusions. He also would describe a scene and then in relaying it to a co-worker include the details again. Some of the dialogue had a stilted quality, but improved as the book continued. Speaking of continued, the novel was sprinkled with the phrase “continued on.” This was my English teacher’s pet peeve and has become mine when there was no object for “on.” The author is not the only guilty one. It is becoming acceptable. Language evolves, but I see this as a devolution. “Continued” means “went on.’ You’d never say “went on on.”

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2025Great read. Lots of twists and turns! Recommend to anyone who likes detective novels. Easy to read and great plot!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2025A good kidnapping/police procedural book. I liked the characters. They felt real. My only complaint was the predictably of the story. The twist was easy to see coming.
While I thought it was ok, I don’t see myself reading any more of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars quite good
I really enjoyed reading this because of the very cleverly crafted characters, the scenes inside and out of buildings, the plot being so good and the side issues which were huge in themselves and all brought to a close.
It wasn’t scary for me like a hard bitten thriller, but it still had me hoping, being disgusted and concerned, smiling and feeling relieved, in other words it evoked emotions, so it’s a good read.
Clean as far as I can remember.

4.0 out of 5 stars Una buona storia. Scorrevole
La scrittura è scorrevole e, benché la trama non sia particolarmente originale, il libro si lascia leggere tenendo vivo l’interesse. I caratteri sono ben delineati. Tutto sommato, un libro gradevole

2.0 out of 5 stars Frankly not worth the read
Poorly written. Some totally unrealistic situations. And too many details that brought nothing to the story line. Glad it was free because it’s definitely not worth paying for.
