This pulse-pounding thriller will leave you breathless!

Homicide Detective Mitch Cannon’s weekend plans take a sinister turn when his sister, Marie, vanishes without a trace. His much-anticipated date with the bold and enigmatic Liza is canceled, and before he can catch his breath, Liza and his partner, Devon, also disappear.

The only clue? A chilling phone call from a blocked number: “Ticktock, ticktock.”

As the hours slip away, Mitch races against the clock with the full force of the Habersham precinct behind him. With no leads and three lives hanging in the balance, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Can Mitch uncover the truth before the timer runs out—or will the people he cares about disappear forever?

Another nail biter with twists and turns galore
Another nail biter with twists and turns galore as people close to Homicide Detective Mitch Cannon go missing. It takes a while for Mitch to realize who the kidnapper is really after. His partner, Devon, is one of the ones taken hostage--he turns out to be a definite hero! Who manages to escape first and how? I read this in one sitting-just had to know what happened!!

I read this book in less than a day. It was entertaining and held my attention. There were some things I think could have been different with technology that's available or that are common police procedures, but it's a book, just like fiction on tv. Held my attention. Yes. Took my imagination into the story? Yes. That's a goid book for me!

Positives: Sympathetic protagonist, suspenseful situation, high stakes. I did want to find out what happened next.
Negatives: Some lazy writing at times. The characters frequently "huffed" or "groaned" before speaking. I didn't count them up, but it got to the point where I shook my head or laughed at the repeated use of the verbs. A pet peeve: poor exposition as two of the criminals recount their background as if they needed to lay out the details to each other. Another pet peeve: a criminal racks a semiautomatic handgun after holding it on the protagonist for some minutes, meaning that the character was holding a gun that had no bullet in the chamber (and yes, the protagonist couldn't know that, but the criminal would know that if the hero attacked the weapon wouldn't fire). Finally, the revelation of one criminal came as no surprise.
Still, all in all, a mostly enjoyable read.

This novel kept me turning the page, eager to discover if a cop’s missing sister and co-worker would be found and survive. The author didn’t trust the reader, however, to draw obvious conclusions. He also would describe a scene and then in relaying it to a co-worker include the details again. Some of the dialogue had a stilted quality, but improved as the book continued. Speaking of continued, the novel was sprinkled with the phrase “continued on.” This was my English teacher’s pet peeve and has become mine when there was no object for “on.” The author is not the only guilty one. It is becoming acceptable. Language evolves, but I see this as a devolution. “Continued” means “went on.’ You’d never say “went on on.”

A good kidnapping/police procedural book. I liked the characters. They felt real. My only complaint was the predictably of the story. The twist was easy to see coming.
While I thought it was ok, I don’t see myself reading any more of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars quite good
Reviewed in Australia on January 26, 2025
I really enjoyed reading this because of the very cleverly crafted characters, the scenes inside and out of buildings, the plot being so good and the side issues which were huge in themselves and all brought to a close.
It wasn’t scary for me like a hard bitten thriller, but it still had me hoping, being disgusted and concerned, smiling and feeling relieved, in other words it evoked emotions, so it’s a good read.
Clean as far as I can remember.

La scrittura è scorrevole e, benché la trama non sia particolarmente originale, il libro si lascia leggere tenendo vivo l’interesse. I caratteri sono ben delineati. Tutto sommato, un libro gradevole

2.0 out of 5 stars Frankly not worth the read
Reviewed in France on February 24, 2023
Poorly written. Some totally unrealistic situations. And too many details that brought nothing to the story line. Glad it was free because it’s definitely not worth paying for.
