About the author

I am H.G. Ahedi, writer of the award winning science fiction series Realm. I dabble a bit with crime fiction too. I am the owner of the most vacant apartment in Sydney (it has minimum furniture and more books). My plants do not survive (I have buried four) and if you buy me a good cup of coffee - we are friends forever!
My dream is to find a way into the fictional world, and write about it in real world. I would love to have a cup of tea with Agatha Christie and solve a case with Sherlock Holmes. And of course pick their brains for my books. I spend my weekends with box of popcorn and TV series (mostly sci fi and mysteries). My real life is a bit more sensible or rather boring. I have done a PhD (I don't know what I was thinking) and right now I spend my day handling a database.
So what have I written?

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2020Haunted is a thriller that left me literally the edge of my seat, turning each page in anticipation and craving more. The author leaves no detail left undone and for the first part I felt like I was in a real life game of Clue, trying to figure out who dunnit. Haunted takes its time in the beginning to set up the rich array of well crafted characters before taking us deep into a cerebral space that invokes the supernatural, but is it reality? This is where the world the author creates starts to get more interesting for me, and as an avid reader of supernatural and horror genres, I was loving the interweaving and plot twists the author takes us on. For me, it had the classic film noir tone to it, even though it takes place in the present day. It is a magical mystery of the unknown and a must read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2020As an avid fan of paranormal mystery I went into this story expecting great things, and boy was I in for a surprise as the author more than delivered far past my expectations. From Egypt to New York City the Author pulls you along on a thrill ride of murder, magic, mystery & mayhem that made for a truly enjoyable thrill ride that I cannot recommend highly enough to do it justice.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025I will remember this book for it's plot and odd characters. I will probably read more from this author. My main complaint is the editing. The are many typos, some misused tenses and I thought the prose could be polished to have it flow more smoothly. It may be im just being persnickity. Read it and judge for yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2021This story grabs the reader from the start and never lets go! The process of solving this complicated plot by Cranston, the detective, and the medical examiner takes dark turns--so much so, that the story brushes the edges of the paranormal, but does not take that plunge. Rather, this is a thrilling mystery that is certain to please any fan of the genre!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2021This book was intriguing from the start and I was insanely interested despite the book being outside my normal genre. The only two things keeping me from giving this book 5 stars was that it told rather than showed me what was happening and I couldn’t figure out how a boat ended up in the desert outside of Cairo (I live in Egypt and the only water close to Cairo would be the Nile really, but 40 years wouldn’t be enough to put it that far into the desert).
Otherwise, I actually loved the plot and was hooked immediately! For my first mystery/thriller, it certainly made me want to read more.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2021Another great installmemt of the Cranston Mysteries. It has the nostalgic feel of a classic detective novel with a sprinkle of exciting fantasy.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2021William Sterling is one of the medical examiners at the New York City morgue, and when three cases of suicides come to him in very strange circumstances, he decides to investigate these deaths, despite the fact that there are no suspicions of homicides. That’s how he finds evidence that the so-called suicides could be something else. Then he involves detectives Tom Nash and Joan Chase to further investigate the circumstances of these deaths, thus making it an official police investigation. This event activates the dark forces behind these deaths, attacking Dr. William, and initiating thus, a dizzying story of police and criminal suspense, worthy of the best Hollywood series or movie, and in which Roumolt Cranston, William's best friend, is almost immediately involved, like the investigative mastermind of all the story.
First able, I would like to highlight the vertiginous beginning of the story, where in a race against time, Cranston and the police must try to rescue William from the attack from which he is a victim. I will not give spoilers, but it's certainly one of the reading episodes most suspenseful I've ever read in my life. Practically my sight was glued to the screen of my Kindle, reading the events and waiting for a favorable outcome to the protagonists. The narrative in this opening episode is worthy of an episode of the series "24" and even reminded me of that final scene in New York from the movie "The Peacemaker" where George Clooney and Nicole Kidman frantically scour the city in search of a terrorist with an atomic bomb. These are scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat with your attention focused at maximum, and deep inside, you just want the ending to be happy. Worth mentioning is how with that initial episode one already perceives the great brotherhood that exists between Cranston and Sterling, due to the concern and haste with which the first seeks to rescue his friend. One immediately empathizes with Cranston and wishes everything to go well.
After that dizzying start, we see how the authoress transports us to a complex and detailed police investigation, led by Cranston to unveil the mystery of the deaths and their possible motivations. In this sense, the authoress knows how to transport us very well to the different scenarios where the investigative team does its work: the police on the one hand and the Cranston detective agency on the other hand.
I must emphasize that despite the fact that there are possibly four main characters in the story, the authoress knows how to introduce us very well to approximately ten more, who accompany the leaders, forming a very complete team of detectives and logistical support. Before the appearance of each character, the authoress gives us a complete description of each character, which I appreciated a lot, since I like to have a detailed image of each character when I read a story.
For the rest, it is worth highlighting the complexity of the story, with a mysterious beginning in an archaeological investigation in Egypt, some mysterious deaths and a plot full of suspense and action in New York City. At times I felt like I was watching an episode of "Law and Order" or "Elementary" but with much more action and unexpected events, and to close with a finishing touch: a dramatic outcome that reveals all the secrets of the story.
For all the above, I highly recommend this book to lovers of thrillers with unexpected touches of action, and I will be on the lookout for new installments of Cranston's mysteries

5.0 out of 5 stars A well done Novel.
Haunted is a well researched and written book. Its pace keeps you reading to find out what happens next and its use of descriping every scene makes you feel as you are in the novel trying to solve the mystery of the case.
Just when you thought the team were about to solve the case, a subtle twist causes even more questions that need answering.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading another Cranston Mysteries novel by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cleverly crafted mystery
What an entertaining read. There were so many things I enjoyed about this book. The author included a short but effective prologue that set the tone for an exciting thrill ride. I thought it was a clever way to blur the line between reality and the paranormal, and it worked by making the reader repeatedly ask those questions as the plot played out. The story is filled with twists, turns, suspense and descriptive action scenes. Dialogue was bang-on and flowed naturally, and the author used her in-depth science background effectively to advance the plot. In summary, I found Haunted a very imaginative and intelligently written who-done-it. It weaves down a path, keeps you guessing, and its fast pace serves to heighten the tension. In the end, everything comes together like a complex puzzle. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading other works from this author.
