I gave the Wakey five stars out of five for the sound quality because, as compared to other alarm clocks I've heard, the sound out of this thing is amazing. Better than Bose? Of course not. But Bose does not make an alarm clock (though with some effort, you can integrate a Bose speaker into an alarm clock).
I gave the Wakey five stars out of five for value because when you look at all the other alarm clock offerings, I feel that few to no other devices offer this combination of features, quality of sound, and flexibility of settings in a single package for that price. That said, $100 for an alarm clock certainly isn't cheap, but again...quality and value.
I gave the Wakey five stars out of five for material quality. The device feels solid, touch services are nicely finished, nothing feels cheap, thin, slippery, or otherwise insufficient. I doubt they could improve on the materials much more than they have right now.
---DETAILS---
I have been using the same lousy clock radios since my early childhood days (40+ years ago). Either the flip-style or LED digits, radios with questionable reception and sounding tinnier than those Realistic pocket jobs, one or two alarms (alarm sound or radio), loses the time with even the shortest of power outages, and the backup 9V batteries never seem to last anywhere near long enough. Sure, there have been some advancements like the iHome and whatnot with their built-in Apple proprietary charge ports (30-pin, then Lightning), and some minor improvements to radio sound, but I never bothered with those; I already had better iPhone charging capabilities than those devices would ever provide.
Enter the Soundcore Wakey. This one really does bring the concept of the clock radio into the 21st century. It requires a bit of your own tech savvy to use it (this is not a good option for the grandparents in general), but it gives you almost every feature a reasonably tech-fluent person would want. First off, the sound out of this thing is wonderful. It's no Bose, but it's a lot closer than most models on the market today, and I will leave it at that.
None of the functionality of this clock is amazing, groundbreaking, mindblowing, or just so new because no one ever thought of it before. Several recent models have a couple of these features, others have this one or that one, and so on. What's cool about the Wakey is that all of the functionality is in one single device.
Basically, you can control all the basic functions from the Wakey itself with it's touch-bar-like buttons, but you control the configuration of the Wakey from your phone and the clock stores the saved configuration profile within itself to implement them. You have complete flexibility of what you want to wake to (noises or radio station), and have several white noise generator options to go to sleep with. A word about the white noise generator: not only does it give you the standard options (wind, rain, birds, waves, water, etc. (a total of 11 different sounds), but the app on the phone allows you to mix them in together (set a volume level to each one individually) to get a completely customized composite white noise sound to your specific liking. That's just plain awesome.
I also like that you can set alarms for specific days of the week. No more forgetting to turn off the alarm for the weekend and forgetting to turn it back on for the week. Set the days for the alarm in the app and let it do the activating and deactivating of the alarms for you. I have my Monday-thru-Friday alarm for work, and other various spot alarms for one day or one time, and I am good to go.
The flat top serves as the wireless charging pad. It's a bit touchy -- you have to get your phone or wireless device in EXACTLY the right spot. Easy to do when you are standing above it and looking straight down at the top, somewhat more challenging to do when you are already in bed and reaching across to put the phone down on it. I am sure they are using a slightly smaller coil than some others use. Still, not horrible, and you do get a small but easy to see blue light on the front of the display when the phone properly hits the pad so you can tell it is charging (good for when your phone is on silent).
I also like the fact that not only can you set the display digits brightness, but you can also automatically turn them off for a user-selected period (mine are off from 12:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.). Less light and distraction in the room equals better sleep. This feature is totally configurable: set your own time range for display being off or not use it at all. Up to you.
I have two very minor annoyances about this device. Minor enough that they probably won't ever be considered feature adaptations, but worth noting nonetheless. The first is that when setting the alarms and what the alarm sounds like, setting the volume of the alarm is more challenging than it should be. The UI for setting the alarm time and what is played for the alarm (sound or radio station) is fantastic; the UI element for setting the volume is a very thin, straight horizontal slider, but it is touchy and hard to get right. After many attempts of having it WAY TOO LOUD (the first time my alarm went off, I almost jumped out of bed) or too quiet, I got a setting that is close and I am sticking with it; Anker needs to fix this and make that alarm volume setting similar to the UI for setting alarm time. Better control and flexibility.
The second minor nit is the display itself. The digits on the clock appear as 10:29AM or 2:35PM. Talk about a stupid nit, but there really needs to be a space between the time and the AM/PM designation (e.g. 10:29 AM, 2:35 PM). Since this thing is as configurable as it is, it would also be nice to have upper and lower case AM/PM designations as well (maybe under an "Advanced Settings" option). Like I said, VERY minor and I am probably the only person this bothers. But just in case there is another OCD grammar freak out there, they should be made aware.
Just to be clear: neither of those annoyances is worth returning or discontinuing the use of the Wakey. It is 98% awesome, and I will continue to use it just as is.
And a feature request, in case Anker is reading: It would be nice to be able to set the color of the display LEDs. A nice color palette or even pre-programmed choices would be a wonderful option, and would go along quite well with all the other flexibility built into the clock and the app.
The app works well and is simple to use and sleek. The sound is top notch from the unit. I like the automatic dim, the auto sync for time from the phone. The charger works fine, no problems there. I have noticed that both USB ports and the QI are pretty slow to charge.
I dislike that the QI charger circle is a dust magnet and the phone vibrating can tend to move the phone around occasionally, but that may just be my experience. I am also not a fan of touch buttons as I have found them to be a weak point in similar products in the past but these seem very responsive, time will tell.
I would love to see the unit have an integrated battery or even a battery bank to make it portable. If it had that and a widget this thing would be the perfect product.
Ok, three gripes... 1. (Minor) It's a little difficult to position the phone perfectly so that the wireless charger engages. Finding the right orientation takes five seconds or so, but with a reclined charging stand it takes zero seconds. You have to wiggle it around until the little blue light turns on
2. (Minor) The companion app has a really nice white noise generator with customizable levels. Using the white noise generator requires an active connection to your phone via Bluetooth and you can't really use your phone for anything else that makes sound. Would be nice if you could configure white noise via phone and play without.
3. The clock face is the biggest let down. It has speaker mesh over the LEDs which obscures the display ever so slightly. In the middle of the night when you are bleary-eyed and half asleep it takes longer to focus on the clock's digits and read the time. Also, the app offers zero customizations of the clock display. At the very least I'd like to change the color of the numbers. Given all the thought that went into the device it seems like a strange omission.
All told, I'm happy with this cool little clock and would recommend it for yourself, or maybe a neat gift to someone else.

Now that they're resolved, I have to say--I sleep much better with this and I'm really happy with this. Seems like a dumb thing to recommend to my friends, but I'm going to.
Pros:
No discernable loop!
Getting rid of my old alarm clock, phone charger, and bluetooth speaker
Really nice accompanying app
Excellent sound quality
A++ support
Very well designed, dimmable LED clock
Cons:
When connected via Bluetooth, the Bluetooth light does not turn off unless you toggle the clock LED light off too (it's about 50x brighter than the clock). I've covered it with sock for now, will use some low tack tape at some point.
The clock LED could be a little bigger or brighter on auto dim, I have mine on the dresser about 10 feet from me and I have trouble reading it with near perfect vision
My app used to crash overnight. I was able to fix this with customer support though.
Top reviews from other countries
Super easy to set up, paired with phone quickly, charged up mobile phone quickly, clean sound quality and paired simultaneously with other Bose speaker seamlessly. Love it!
Would've given it a 5-star, if not for the very loud start up tune (can be fairly startling) and the super heated charging (of mobile phone). Granted that the user guide did mention devices can get slightly warmer than usual during charging, but definitely wasn't expecting it to be as hot as it is.
