Author Gary Ponzo began his writing career thirty years ago by writing short stories. In just five years he'd published seven short stories in various publications, two of which were nominated for the very prestigious Pushcart Prize.

His first novel, "A Touch of Deceit," is a story born from his childhood experiences working in his father's candy store in Brooklyn, NY. His father was Sicilian and became friendly with some local members of a different kind of Sicilian family. Since Gary was just fifteen at the time, these family members would make sure he was protected whenever he would work late at night by himself. He soon discovered a side to the Mafia not many people knew. It was these relationships which caused him to write about Sicilian FBI agent, Nick Bracco, who recruits his Mafia cousin to chase down the world's most feared terrorist.

"A Touch of Deceit," went on to win the 2009 Southwest Writers Novel Contest. He is currently working on the 8th book in the Nick Bracco series as well as trying to create world peace in his spare time. Gary currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Jennifer and two children, Jessica and Kyle.

    I have greatly enjoyed the 'Touch of...' series. Are they classics? Not really, but they all kept me on the edge of my seat and were difficult to put down. It was easy to relate to the characters and I found I reveled in their 'wins' and felt the pain of their 'losses'.
    If you are an action junky who likes a good story line I think you will enjoy these books.

It had a very realistic plot touching on the realistic issues with those that protect our country. I will definitely be reading more by this author. I highly recommend!!!     This story starts with the President's brother being captured by a drug cartel in Columbia. The President requests help from the FBI who then contact Nick. Nick and Matt prepare to go to Columbia and free the President's brother. Nick also obtains help from his cousin Tommy. Tommy pursues searching for a guide who knows the area. This results in the Russian, who was a big part of the previous book, joining the team.

    The action in Columbia is quite intense and will keep you reading to the end to find out wheter they are successful. There are so many up and downs in the action that it is impossible to put the book down until you have finished it.

    This is another winner for this author, and I highly recommend you read all of the books in this series.

    A Touch of Malice by Gary Ponzo is book 4 in the Nick Bacco series. This was not my favorite of the series but it was good. It was a little more unrealistic especially the part with the President going to Colombia.
    Trent Merrick is a documentary film maker who is in Colombia to document an Indian tribe who is being forced out of its land by drug lords wanting to use their land to grow their crops. While he is there, he runs across a meeting between the President of Colombia and a drug cartel leader. It shows the President on his knees kissing the hand of the drug lord. He is captured but not before he sends the picture to his brother, President Merrick of the United States.
    President Merrick immediately wants Nick Bracco and Matt McColm to head a team to go in and get his brother. He doesn’t believe those who hold him will ask for ransom and it is not his style to pay ransom although he might give in this time.
    Nick and Matt agree and leave for Florida to meet up with their team. Nick contacts his cousin Tommy and he joins the team in information gathering. Tommy also gets the best man to lead them into the Amazon- Anton Kalinikov. Anton was the Russian who was to kill Nick and Matt but in reality helped them. Now they are working together.
    While they are trying to get into the Amazon and find Trent, the President, against his advisors wishes, goes to Colombia to talk to the President and hopefully gain some help in locating Trent.
    What will happen? Will they get to Trent before he dies? What will the President do while he is in Colombia?

    What a way to spend a couple of days! The President's brother finds himself in a pickle in a South American jungle. On a field trip investigating an endangered native Indian tribe, he finds himself literally up a tree and witnessing a disturbing alliance below between a major drug cartel leader and the Columbian president smack dab in the middle of the rainforest. Trying to maneuver between the peril of being discovered by the deadly cartel or the equally deadly pit viper slithering in his direction, the unthinkable happens. He falls out of the tree and is captured. The US president uses all of his resources to try to save his only remaining sibling.

    Those resources include a promise of $5 million dollars and the assistance of our old friends Nick Bracco and his partner Matt McColm, two highly celebrated FBI "problem solvers, and three Navy SEALS." Oh and Nick calls in Tommy, his mob-affiliated cousin as back up plus one other unlikely cohort. Question: How will a rag tag team of 6 plus 1 fair against an enormous army of bad guys that includes members from both governments and the cartel?

    At one point, Trent, the president's brother, is said to be an astute storyteller. That clearly describes Gary in my opinion. Fast paced, concise, and heart pumping, this is another winner from Ponzo. If you're looking for bigger than life, imaginative scenarios and pure entertainment, pick this book up. Be prepared to do nothing else all day. I've waited a long time to say...thanks Gary for a GREAT read; can't wait for the next one ~!~.

    I'm glad to be giving this a five-star rating after the last one just got a four from me. This really did have me turning pages. Gary has returned to the story-writing level of the 1st book in the series.

    Saying that, there are spoilers in every book with reference to the previous stories, so be careful to not read them in a different order as there are so many references that, sometimes, you'll know the end before you get there.

    This one is especially enjoyable for all fans of Tommy! Can't wait to get into the next one!

    Having read the other novels in this series, I had high expectations, I wasn't disappointed. Gary Ponzo is a brilliant story teller and you can actually believe what you are reading is real. This is an edge of seat story about the trials and tribulations of a special team agent who had become a Sheriff in a small town but was called back in to the team within days. Blackmailed by terrorists and worrying about his wife and baby back home. In this book Nick has to call on his 'underworld connected' cousin Tommy and also the man who was previously paid to kill him. I hope Gary Ponzo writes a follow up.
