Sassy, funny, blunt, and definitely not sugar coated, Don’t Burp in the Boardroom examines etiquette in the workplace, from the warehouse to the top floor. While the outerwear may be different, the dilemmas from cubicle to corner office are the same. Rosalinda Randall delves into common predicaments like food, the break room, social media and electronics, office romances, or how to make a good impression when you’re new on the job. She also delves into the uncommonly common like catching your boss in an unfortunate position and how to avoid that one co-worker who always wants a hug.

In today’s modern, fast-paced, crazy lifestyle we think we don’t have time for etiquette. We might believe that it is outdated, irrelevant, or even pretentious. But Don’t Burp in the Boardroom talks about etiquette without mentioning etiquette! How’s that possible? Because Rosalinda defines etiquette as an attitude. What’s yours like?

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Don’t get caught unprepared. Knowing how to conduct yourself with civility and tact is an incredible advantage in today’s workforce. Don’t Burp in the Boardroom is a must-read for college grads, as well as the long-time employee!”

—Frank Shankwitz, Retired Arizona Department of Public Safety Detective and Co-Founder of the Make-A-Wish Foundation

“Rosalinda Randall here-in provides an impressive compendium of straight-forward, common sense nuggets of wisdom for handling life’s often awkward and/or unexpected dilemmas—dilemmas many of us often find we are unprepared to deal with.

“This is a very easy, charismatic, and informative read laced with lightheartedness. Anyone who values being better prepared for life and the unexpected will surely benefit from the contents of these pages.”

—Matt Helm, Owner of Matt Helm Entertainment (Dean Martin/Sean Connery Impersonator)

“Saying what you mean without being mean is the foundation of good relationships and successful teams. As the Athletic Director of a college and a former NFL player, I know that the way we interact with others has a direct impact on us, our coworkers, and our success. Don’t Burp in the Boardroom offers a fresh perspective on etiquette, with real-life situations and solutions that are as applicable in the locker room and classroom as they are in a boardroom. Every professional team, no matter how large or small, will benefit from Rosalinda’s advice!”

—Ted Petersen, Director of Athletics and Physical Education, former offensive lineman for Pittsburgh Steelers (1977–1983, 1987), Cleveland Browns (1984), Indianapolis Colts (1984)

Don’t Burp in the Boardroom is the must-read manual of the century! It basically gives a less-skilled person the fundamentals of etiquette and the basic knowledge to succeed in the workplace. It covers everything from how to use a napkin to social media tips. I personally discovered things I could improve on. To be frank there are not very many things I would recommend but Don’t Burp in the Boardroom takes a fascinating look at daily etiquette; it is on my short list of recommended books.”

—Stanley Roberts, Creator and Producer of award-winning “People Behaving Badly” KRON 4 TV San Francisco

Don’t Burp In The Boardroom by etiquette expert Rosalinda Randall is a humorous but all-too-real look at the office etiquette issues facing the modern professional of almost any stripe today. Randall doesn’t just give advice on the superficial—how to dress, or what to order at a business lunch etc., although those are covered as well—but takes a hard look at many of the questions facing fresh job-seekers or even long-time employees, viewing situations from different perspectives. She then proceeds to break those challenges down into manageable components and presents various solutions for different outcomes, in a rather refreshing approach.

“Whether you’re new to the workforce or a seasoned office veteran, the crucial insight Randall provides in the book may mean the difference between getting that job or promotion, or losing the opportunity altogether. Don’t Burp in the Boardroom may also prove invaluable to those who lead or manage people—after all, office etiquette is appreciated at every level!”

—Daniel Goh, Editor of YoungUpstarts.com

“Whether you are an entrepreneur climbing the ladder or patrolling the beat, the way you conduct yourself matters. If you want to make a great impression, the first day and every day, Rosalinda offers applicable, real-life solutions to real-life dilemmas for employees in today’s competitive workplace. Don’t apply for another job or deal with that hard-to-live-with coworker until you’ve read Don’t Burp in the Boardroom.”

—Jamie Monozon, CEO San Bruno Chamber of Commerce

Don’t Burp in the Boardroom is a no-nonsense guide for young graduates to navigate the etiquette hallways of the workplace. Rosalinda Oropeza Randall is an expert in her field and delivers etiquette advice in a down-to-earth manner. Her advice is full of anecdotal stories and examples that clearly illustrate the value of her knowledge. This book is a must-have for anyone looking to be successful at work.”

—Candice Nance, International Business Professor, Cañada College

Great info, well written!!!

I love this book! Content is useful, brief, and at times hilarious; and the format is incredibly easy to use. The entries are clearly labeled, icons make it easy to find subject areas, and entries themselves are easy to read and punctuated with relevant cartoons that make the point visually. The style is informal and fun.

The title may be a bit misleading, as it's not just about high-level corporate job behavior. The book offers advice pretty much applicable anywhere, and many down-to-earth examples of appropriate/inappropriate behavior, comments, and responses.

While anyone can learn from this guide (and everyone can be amused by it), it's particularly useful for (1) new entrants to the workplace and (2) those who working in a culturally diverse workplace.

Ms. Randall's suggestions are based on common sense and decency, and while no one who is invested in PC behavior would object to her advice, it's not prescriptive but clearly aimed at the wider goal of creating a more civil community. That said, someone who follows her precepts will learn that if you pick your battles carefully (and back away from pettiness, gossip, and unnecessary confrontation) you will win friends and advancement.

Finally, this book makes a great gift!

As a working adult with Aspergers, this book has explained to me, and helped me better understand, the wide variety of behaviors I see at my office job. The line between what is appropriate behavior, and what is not really supposed to happen, is a lot clearer to me now. Not that I want to change anything about my coworkers, but sometimes I cant tell if wha they are doing is ok (aka I can do it to) or an action that makes them look bad and unprofessional (which I can observe them doing and not mimic it). It also made me re-evaluate how I act and change a few of my behaviors. For example, I now say good morning to people when I meet them in the kitchen. I used to not say hello to people because I am shy and it simply scares me. They might not realize that I'm shy, they just might think I'm a rude or impolite. The book gave me the mindset that being respected by your coworkers makes your job, and your sanity, more sustainable. Everyone would benefit from this book. People that are being jerks at work may be kinder, and those bothered by jerks may learn how to interact with jerks, and even dissuade the from being jerks if brave. If there are no jerks in the office, the book is still good because you are just more aware of the professional-ness of relationships between coworkers.
