Purchase options and add-ons

Choosing wine in a restaurant or shop can seem an unfathomable business. But, according to Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew, the duo behind London's Noble Rot, it needn't be that way. In Wine from Another Galaxy they'll help you to understand how it is made, where to buy it, what to look for when you drink it, and how to talk about it. And once you've mastered the basics, they'll take you on a journey through the best of European wine culture, meeting the people and places behind their favorite bottles. Indeed, Dan and Mark have spent years visiting growers that you probably haven't heard of, from the original thinkers of the natural wine movement to the iconic estates of Burgundy and Bordeaux. This is the alternative, accessible, no-holds-barred guide to wine, where the usual clichés and rules don't apply.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A gorgeous coffee-table book that is secretly an in-depth textbook on European wine culture."
- Fortune,

"It's a good Burgundy of a wine book, one that deserves savoring."
- Florence Fabricant, The New York Times,

"I look forward to new issues of Noble Rot magazine whenever I can get my hands on them, which is why I'm especially excited to have a full volume exploring the natural wines of Burgundy and beyond to add to my little bar cart book collection."
- Food Wine,

Great research and practical applications for fishing steelhead and browns, flies to use, and equipment. Really good resource for anyone who wants to improve their fishing experience on Great Lakes tributaries.

By far the most fun wine book I’ve read. Very insightful, with the right amount of depth to be educational as well. Really well written. I ordered the periodical as well.

Love this modern look at classic wines.

Filled with lively writing and gorgeous imagery this book is really one of a kind in a sea of repetitive wine books. The authors weave music and culture in a way that makes you want to book a flight to London for wine bar hopping immediately.

Vlad Thelad
5.0 out of 5 stars All around delicious
Reviewed in Canada on April 9, 2023
I am a wine aficionado, or a bit of a wine snob, depending on who you ask. The fact is that I really like learning about wine, discussing all about it, doing some adventurous tasting to expand my horizons, pairing foods, blind tastings, comparing notes and experiences, the lot. But all this enthusiasm can be too much for those around you. So, finding this book, getting acquainted with Noble Rot and the two men behind the magazine and the restaurant, feels like coming across likeminded souls. It’s not just that they like and know, really know, wine. They genuinely enjoy it, and theirs is an approach devoid of the pretentiousness of experts, the silly argot of master sommeliers, the empty phraseology of mass marketing, and the absurdity of the one-hundred-point scale for quality appreciation. This is a book of two halves, an informal, humorous yet serious introduction to wine and a tour of selected European regions to introduce people creating exciting wines. It is all around delicious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer brilliance, heartily recommended

First thing I thought about this book was "it's beautiful". Second was "it's fascinating". Third was "it's funny". Not sure you can say that about many other wine books. I've learned so much already. They talk about wines so enticingly, I recommend you don't read it in the morning as you'll want to uncork a bottle at 10 a.m. I'll be buying copies for family and friends this Christmas as it's the perfect gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars From another galaxy...or from the future?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 20, 2020
Whether you've had the chance to visit Noble Rot in person or not, it's almost impossible not to become a fan of their ultra-cool, no-ego approach. Noble Rot dusts off an elegant but admittedly somewhat old-fashioned industry, giving it a much-needed twist.

This isn't a book about loving wine, nor is it about the technical know-how contained in countless more detailed (though likely less interesting and more academic) writing that can be found on the subject. Instead, it's part of a new movement taking place across hospitality, food, and beverage where our interaction goes far beyond what's in the glass or bottle. It's about story, storytelling, and the way that brings to life the experiences, flavours, and moments in which we enjoy the best Noble Rot has to offer.

Wine From Another Galaxy brings all of this together in a creative package with attitude. It's a book to read through for those already familiar with wine (and/or Noble Rot) or the as-yet unacquainted. Equally, it's perfect for a curious guest at home to leaf through (with a glass of wine in hand, naturally). From my standpoint, this is a milestone and must-own for longtime followers of Noble Rot's regular publications, and an awesome introduction to the wonderful "Rotter's" perspective for wine-lovers and newbies alike.

Purchased two copies in October/November 2020. One for myself, and one as a Christmas gift for my father who is a lifelong fan of wine (you have to keep them young in some way, right!?).
