A shallow and patronising book. I expected a light hearted look at modern day feminism with some insights gained from a fruitful and privelledged career but Levenson provides no real insight and instead has released a frequently contradictory and sometimes openly mysogynistic text into the world.
I nodded along when she explained that women should have choices - this is not a new thought but hey, this is a GUIDE to feminism so sure, state the obvious as a start point - but then a couple of chapters in, after assuring the reader that she had a wonderfully feminist wedding, she questions the validity of choosing to take your spouses name: "sometimes I think about those people who change their names, and how much they must hate themselves, their families and their identities up until this point to want to destroy their identity and leave their name behind." - WOW! Could she be much more indirectly critical and judgemental of other people's choices. I'd have more respect if she just outright said she thinks people should keep their name instead of being so underhand about it. This book masquerades as feminist but it truly lacks all spirit of feminism.
