Great casual game for ages 4-7 with acceptable quality
I purchased this game in a local Toy Store as an introductory level board game for my son (3.5 years old), that would at the same time be interesting for my wife (not very interested in board games) and myself. The game is a simplified version of Game of Life. The objective is to collect 10 stars in your "star card". Every turn you spin the roulette and move. You can either visit an attraction (get one star) or draw one card (different events winning/losing stars or money). Several cards require the players to perform actions to earn the stars, such as singing a song or finding an item in the board. After playing around 20 games, here are my impressions:Pros:- The game allows for simplifications for players of multiple ages to play together. My son does not know how to read, so I read the cards for him; but he can still can spin, move the piece, pay the entrance tickets and so on. I think any kid from 3.5 to 4 year old can play this game. However, I do not really see him enjoying this game when he is 7+- The game is colorful, and the locations and events are very well chosen. My son is so happy everytime he goes to the Muddy Puddles or the Playground!- The cars that represent the players are cute, and probably the most remarkable item in the whole box- The game is quick to setup and cleanup, so we often have a couple of quick games before going to bed (10-15 minutes each)- Price is good, and while the quality is average at best (see cons), I think it is totally worth the moneyCons:- While the event cards add some spice to the game, after playing multiple times they become repetitive. The first time you have to act out "sack race" for other players to guess it is very fun, but by the 10th time everybody guesses it within a second- The money in the game barely adds anything. Each player starts with $4, and some of the attractions you visit require $1 to enter. Normally the starting money is enough for the whole game, so it does not add any strategy to the game. Also, there are only $1 bills - an opportunity missed to teach the toddler how to count- Quality is average. The board and cards are made of cheap cardboard. They are, however, sturdy enough to survive the handling by my toddler, so I will consider it acceptable. The roulette keeps getting out of place all the time, and I almost wish we could just use a regular die. Also, the card where you place the stars to keep the game progress is not a very good idea; my toddlers keep hitting it accidentally and all the stars get out of place. The quality does not get in the way of playing the game and does not reduce the fun, but you will deffinitely not feel like playing a premium gameOverall:The game of life is a great introductory game for young kids who are not yet ready for more complex ones. I strongly recommend it to parents with kids in the 4-7 year old range looking for a casual game to play in a short period of time. If you think your toddler will enjoy it, do not let the reviews about the quality discourage you - I have no idea what people where expecting at this price range. However, if you are looking for a game with more depth or strategy or for older kids (7+), I recommend to look into other options. I personally recommend Monopoly Junior Board Game and Ravensburger Labyrinth as two excellent family games.
