WandererA creature that you will frequently encounter while exploring the mist. Wanderers are not highly intelligent and are weak at recognizing nearby enemies, making it easier to square them off one by one. However, they can become distinctly tough to beat when you encounter them as a horde. |
BomberA creature that appears to have an abnormally swollen head and is considered to be a sort of subspecies of the Wanderer. These creatures have a tendency to violently explode upon their death so you must be careful about how you deliver the final blow. Some reports have cited cases where they did not explode, however, the reason behind these cases remains unknown. |
TrackerA creature with strangely mutated legs. Thought to be a subspecies of the Wanderer. Their distinctive legs gives them the ability to move around rapidly and jump over barricades with ease, meaning you cannot solely relying on your defenses to fend them off. Trackers have a tendency to relentlessly target their attack towards an enemy that has been detected, so extra precautions must be taken when you are out on your own. |

Honestly its not as bad as I was expecting. I hate Konami for what they did to the franchise and especially to Kojima and his team and how they milked the MGS series with pachinko machines and spinoffs so it was that bias that was making hate the game but I bought it to play with friends and tried the beta and I have to admit, its not that bad. Its pretty fun. It takes the MGSV game play assets and mechanics which makes the game pretty fluid. For $30 (prime) or $40 (regular) its not bad. If you are still not sure or dont want to give them money, buy it used.
I still hate Konami though. But the game itself isnt at fault. Its pretty decent honestly. I almost did not want to give a review.
As far as the game goes. Online is fun. Campaign co-op comes in March and more maps/difficulty comes in March too. Campaign itself is fun but difficult with hunger and thirst but doable once you start collecting rain water and building farms. If you play straight you will hit this point in about 3 hours.
Online is really fun, tons of customization options for gear and weapons and you get a ton of nice loot when you complete missions online, especially if you S rank (pretty easy)
Having a blast so far. Its just the early game that is tough.
It is a metal gear, there is a metal gear, there are government based conspiracies and cover ups, there's even the return of something that is a huge spoiler for the game's story that directly points to this game taking from an idea that Kojima made. They even have the long cut scenes at several points in the first 8 to 10 hours. There however are less anti-war messages and all that Jazz Kojima brought.
This is a hard core survival game in the single player story which take up the first 16 to 20 hours. If you don't get food and water regularly, your character will die, if you leave wounds and damage open , it will effect your movement style and stamina.
The combat feels slow and somewhat clunky with the melee weapons at points, but as you level up (this game is much more of an rpg than people think.) you'll notice some of the level ups give you speed and agility with your weapons you didn't have before.
One huge thing is thats the weapon selection is notable amount with everything from a machete and bow and arrow to a sniper rifle and mat like pads that can electrify the enemy. It also requires a lot of crafting items and finding locked up blue prints in crates you will spend a decent amount of time scavenging for each one.
Now with all this said I want to be very clear: Mircotransactions are in the game but unless you horde everything or want more character slots (a lot of people have said these are save slots that is incorrect, the slots you can unlock are different characters, though you can change everything about your existing character except their gender ) you will be able to ignore them completely. Also you can side step them if you simply login regularly, you'll get some of the premium currency from the daily bonuses.
It's not a prefect game, its not even an awesome must play game but it's probably one of the better survival games out right now simply because of how feature complete it is and its rather lengthy involved story.
Oh and it does require an online connection to even play offline but it's not demanding anything powerful connection wise.
Now with all that said, it's up to you. I give it a 3.5/5 but as Amazon isn't allowing me to select that I'll go with a 4 to counteract those who rather unfairly maligned the game.
