So, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, what is it ? This is a game that took almost everything good from all of it's predecessors then added what i thought was going to be just another game, turns out it wasn't. MGS5 has blown my mind to start... one thing i really love in this new game is you get to drive stuff and ride it, i.e. animals, this has never been done before in a MGS game, its so cool. Also As in Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes has a base-building feature that allows you to develop weapons and items from their virtual motherbase, which is pretty awesome if you ask me. Another cool thing is the ability to access the motherbase from their real-life smartphones i.e. cellphones for real. While i have not tested this i plan to.
Ok heres the "New Stuff" that has been added to this game.
- Day and night cycle that runs in real-time. ("depending on how you travel between one stage to the next, the travel time will affect the time of day when you arrive at your destination")
- They use a new voice for Snake in this one which is Kiefer Sutherland. While i can understand why, it took me a bit of time to get used to it.
- New game play direction will allow the player to choose in what order the story events take place by selecting missions in any order they like. ("understand the encompassing message by the end".)
- Uses the Fox Engine. ("for high-end consoles and PC's, software system that rules the graphics in this game")
- More freedom during game play.
- New ways of traversal and sneaking methods, such as taking a plane, helicopter or motorcycle to the mission area.(This is in order for Kojima to accomplish a "true open world experience" with Ground Zeroes.)
- Access the motherbase from their real-life smartphones.
- A base-building feature that allows players to develop weapons and items from their virtual motherbase.
A bit of the Plot (not enough to where it will ruin it for you).
Set in 1975, sometime after the events of Peace Walker. players control returning protagonist Big Boss/Snake (Kiefer Sutherland) as he works with Militaires Sans Frontières to infiltrate an American black site on Cuban soil called Camp Omega. His main objectives are the extraction of Cipher agent Pacifica Ocean/Paz Ortega Andrade (Tara Strong) and Sandinista child soldier Ricardo "Chico" Valenciano Libre (Antony Del Rio), who were both involved in the events of Peace Walker.
How i reacted when i begin playing.
I found it difficult to use Solid Snake aka Big Boss at 1st during my play thru, it took me awhile to get used to the controls, after i did the game seemed to just light up in my mind. Reason i gave this game 5 stars is because its a must have even if you're not a fan of MGS, this game is amazing. So grab a copy and check it out, trust me you won't be sorry, I'm not thats for sure lol. Also for the price this is a home run for what this game gives you, sure its short but this is just some of the great things to come.
A few notes and information from other places below this.
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has received generally positive reviews.
- Gamespot rated the game 8 out of 10 and calling it "challenging and engrossing stealth mechanics" and "extremely replayable"
- IGN also gave the game an 8/10, praising it greatly for its stealth mechanics and high replayability
-The game has been greatly criticised for its short campaign mode, which can be completed in under two hours. Others also have noted that the lack of real names for weaponry has taken away some of the initial appeal the series had carried over through it's long history, straying it further from the surrealism that fans had come to enjoy.
The graphics are solid, much more photo-real than I expected. Playing at 60 frames per second, I would say this is possibly the best looking game on the PS4. The only thing that stuck out to me, and this is being ultra nit-picky, was hair didn't look as nice as everything else looked. Music by Harry Gregson-Williams is perfect and so suspenseful at times that it's deceptively nerve-wracking.
If you're familiar with the Metal Gear series, this installment introduces a new controller scheme that I think makes it impossible to go back to previous installments the same way ever again. Just like when Metal Gear Solid 2 introduced new control mechanics that felt natural, it consequently made playing Metal Gear Solid 1 difficult to enjoy the same way again (at least for me, I had the constant urge to do things with Snake I could only do in MGS2). Metal Gear Solid 3 added a bit more to the controls, but nothing memorable. Metal Gear Solid 4 added a bit more and again, nothing that sticks out in my mind. But somehow, they finally crafted the perfect control scheme, combining legacy elements of Metal Gear Solid with popular elements and mechanics used in other action games (namely, first person shooters) that I think makes it kind of impossible to go back to previous MGS games.
Once the main mission starts in Ground Zeroes, there are no load screens. And because of that, the game is much more intense and exciting to play. Once you've beaten it, there is a compulsion to go back and do better. After the main quest is over, which doesn't take more than 2 hours or so, there a number of side quests making use of the same map in varying and interesting ways.
I didn't understand it when I first read it, but it makes more sense to me now: this game is not for everyone. If you get this game, you're buying into a teaser because you love Metal Gear Solid and or you simply want to play the best looking game currently available on PS4 besides inFamous Second Son. But if you've never played Metal Gear Solid before or you skipped a few of the games, there is a possibility you won't follow everything going on very well. And my one knock against Ground Zeroes is it doesn't do a very good job of catching you up to speed with what happened in Peace Walker which was originally a game exclusively for PSP.
If you ever liked Metal Gear Solid, this is definitely an enjoyable experience and worth the price of admission. If you've never played Metal Gear Solid, you're missing out on the most wildly outrageous but beautifully crafted movie-game that ironically started the trend of real story in games.

Metal Gear Solid series. The game was a little short but it has
a lot packed into it for the price.
