Product Description

Product Description

Enter an alternate universe where the Federation is now your enemy, and your enemies have become your allies in Star Trek: Shattered Universe. Engage in dozens of action-packed levels through arcade-style, fighter combat!

From the Manufacturer

Star Trek: Shattered Universe is unlike anything Star Trek fans have ever encountered. Developed by StarSphere, this is an intense, edgy, high-energy space-combat action game set in the dark mirror universe of classic-era "Star Trek: The Original Series." The game challenges its player to adapt to a new reality where everything once familiar is now a dark reflection--where the noble Federation is now an evil and relentless foe.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game and on the easy setting it isn't all that difficult. It also offers something different then the other Star Trek games. Instead of flying a big lumbering slow starship you are in a fighter, a more rapid paced game! Plenty of episodes in this with good graphics of old star trek nemesis's that I won't reveal here. I have played nearly every Star Trek game that has come out and almost everyone seems to get bad reviews, it just seems thats the fashion now days. Yes I liked Star Trek Legacy too, though it did have some flaws it was still fun. If you like Star Trek you will like this game, if you don't you might still get some enjoyment out of it, but I think some serious effort went into it. Not at all deserving of the one star reviews etc.

I actually love this game. It had an interesting storyline, but I personally would have liked more missions. There are a total of nineteen missions in the game. I also would have liked something with the other Spock and Kirk. The game starts out easy, but you are going to have embrace the invincibilty cheat code in order to progress through the game because if you are not careful, four hits and you're dead. It also gets hard really fast, because a few of the missions you are on, you have to fight against insermountable odds (like four old Constitution-class starships or six Empire starships and numerous squadrons of Romulan and Klingon fighters in the last mission). The last mission is really hard, if you don't have a certain fighter (the Phantom Type III). I've beaten it once, but when you play it again, it is extremely hard to get back to that certain level of success again. You are going have to defend the Excelsior really well (and I do mean really well) in order to beat the game. The voice work by both George Takei and Walter Koenig were interesting though the work could have been done a little bit better. It was a good game and I highly recommend it because it will probably be the only game based in the Mirror Universe.

The disk had a DEEP scratch near the outer edge. I have two PS 2s- it wouldn't play on either one. The scratch was very obvious.

I bought this game thinking it was a capital ship type combat game. Instead it is a shuttle combat game. The missions are extremely tedious and HARD even on easy. I got really frustrated with the difficulty of the game and the repetion. The only decent feature is the graphics, which is why it gets two stars overall. I do not recommend buying this game, even if you are a Star Trek Fan.

I didn't play this game when it first came out, so maybe back then it would have been better. This game sounds reasonable on the drawing board, but its execution falls rather short. The graphics are quite good for a PS2 game and all the classic trek sounds are there, they were even able to persuade George Takei to lend his voice. It started off decent enough, but it didn't take long for me to realize this one was a stinker. There is no ship damage effects present in a game aching for them. The explosion effects remind me of the 16 bit graphic era. The gameplay becomes super repetitive super fast, its just wave after wave of small clone bird of preys that explode and curiously don't leave any debris behind. Its not an easy game either, instead of taking it easy and enjoying the battles you are constantly rushed to complete objectives or its just game over. I hate this timed mission nonsense, let me enjoy the game geez. In conclusion, they had a decent idea, but just didn't deliver, stop ruining my trek franchise and put some love into your games!
