Editorial Reviews

Recorded in Los Angeles, CA in late 2011 and early 2012, Maroon 5's fourth studio album Overexposed is a rich, pop-infused collection of tracks. The album was executive produced by Max Martin with additional tracks produced by Benny Blanco and Ryan Tedder. Maroon 5's musicianship and frontman Adam Levine's vocals are as distinct as ever on Overexposed, continuing to showcase the band's ability for creating songs that have become part of the fabric of pop and rock music today. Maroon 5 began writing and recording the album during their most recent world tour and the resulting collection is chock-full of undeniable, anthemic melodies. The album includes such stand out tracks as the emphatic Payphone featuring Wiz Khalifa, the irresistible One More Night and the rythmic ballad Beautiful Goodbye.

Overexposed, the album in which critics and fans received mixed reviews. Yes, it is not the same old sound as you get in the old days by Maroon 5, such as the Songs About Jane days, but for goodness sake, every band goes through an evolution sooner or later. For good or bad we don't know. Maroon 5 has showed no sign of slowing down to create quality work. This CD supports it. Each song has a catchy rhythm to it that it is nearly impossible to go through the entire album without getting a single song stuck in your head as an earworm. Will your opinion differ? Of course. Each person has their own preference in the sound of music. Most don't like this new poppy sound, I don't mind. Isn't this what fans are for? To support the band's every decision they make? No one ever criticized Taylor Swift from changing into the pop world from country. But does that mean there were no complains? Nope. Every decision you make you run into someone with something else to say. It's our opinion. Yes it's true that it only sounds like Adam Levine is the only one in the band, but hey, the other band members are still there, music is music. Therefore, I recommend the Overexposed CD, you may not like it, or you may. I know I sure liked it. Liked every single song at that. Give it a go shall you?

I read some not so positive reviews about this CD before I purchased, but I'm SOOOOO glad I didn't let those reviews stop me from making my own determination. Sometimes music isn't always about what you're used to, or what accolades the past music has received, but THIS is what music is all about, IMO. I've listened to this to and from work, at work (when no one is around - wink, wink), and it's filling up my house right now. There's nothing boring about this CD. Every song has it's own beat, it's message, while it may not be deep and life changing for some, I find that I'm moving to every song. I catch myself grooving in my car on my way to work, and if I were to get stopped - it would definitely be for "distracted driving" (LOL) I sure wouldn't complain if I were standing 'in the middle of Hollywood Blvd' while Adam 'wipes my eyes.' I bought this CD for one song, initially - "One More Night" but that has quickly changed. If you can't relate to "Sad" at one point in your life than you're either arrogant or you're too young to understand. My new favorite! Did I mention I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this CD? Give it a try and just let it play!

Is it  Songs About Jane: 10th Anniversary Edition ? No, but then  It Won't Be Soon Before Long [CD/DVD] [Deluxe Edition ] wasn't either - that was a massively slick and poppy album and I adored it. So why was I reading all of these negative reviews that kept me from buying it as soon as it came out? Maybe I was worried with Jesse's departure, they had gone off the deep end like all the reviews were making it out to be. Overexposed belongs in the same catalog with all of their previous albums. Maroon 5 has from the start been the band with the stellar hooks, extremely catchy, get under your skin and stuck in your head. They've also become very known for upbeat, fast songs with more depressing lyrics - this hasn't changed either, so I'm lost where people think this has strayed so far from their formula? The main drive of Maroon 5 has always, ALWAYS, been Adam's amazing vocal ability with Jesse's keyboards a very close second. I've listed to it only once and the majority of the songs have caught my attention on the first listen, so I know with repeated listens this will easily overtake  Hands All Over (Amazon MP3 Deluxe Exclusive Version)  to be up there with SAJ and IWBSBL.

The essence of Maroon 5 resides here, albeit "technified" in places. This is more evident on the first few tracks of this disc and even made this fan say "what the...?" for a moment.
Then "Sad" comes along and smacks the radio cliche away a bit.
As this is the deluxe, a track demanded ever since it popped up after Songs About Jane at concerts, "Wasted Years", is also featured. Sadly, a few of the lyrics were changed on this disc for little apparent reason and the tune is "softened" a bit. Shame because I like the rockier side these guys are capable of, and the live delivers (or used to) quite nicely.
Overall, good solid album. But it is poppier again, so you've been warned. They do it right though, unlike most of the modern clowns that call themselves "music".

I am a music freak--I love all types of music; attended the National Music Camp (Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan) in the summers growing up (playing piano & violin) & have been friends with the Rolling Stones since the mid- 80's, especially Mick Jagger; so I speak with a great passion about music and understanding of music.

I have always been a fan of Maroon 5 & Adam Levine and past albums of theirs have been very good....and some terrific singles along the way. This album is their best, in my humble opinion.

Most CD's one buys, there are a few songs on it that you'd just as soon not hear---and a few GREAT songs you want to play over and over again.

THIS album is filled with winners---each & every song! The first time I can actually say that about a CD---it is that good. Not one loser---all winners, each & every tune. I am amazed. You will be too. Sure, Payphone is heard alot on the radio, but other songs on this CD are just as good--you'll hear.

So, get it, kick back and enjoy one of the great albums to hit in a long, long time. Thanks Maroon 5----you really did it.

Though this album doesn't feature the typical Maroon 5 sound - it's more of a dance album than anything - I really loved it. The songs are consistent with the more mainstream vibe the group seemed to want to create yet still hold that Maroon 5 edge I admire so much. "Lucky Strike" is definitely a favorite with me; I'd dance to that song in a club any day!
