Graphics-
The graphics look good, but there's a catch. In the past NG titles I played through, there was never an issue with texture pop-in or muddy textures. However, I noticed that a lot in this game; especially if you turn the brightness up. At it's default setting, it looks really good. The graphical bugs really started showing up after about the 4th or 5th level. Especially in the jungle level which could be downright brutal looking at times.
I'm sure NG fans remember how good Ninja Gaiden and NG black looked, then, NG2 followed right in it's footsteps delivering excellent graphics.
With that said, NG3 does offer it's graphical perks and the effects are quite flashy. There's a ton of blood in this game; but no decapitations or limb hacking. Most will complain about it, and I admit that I missed the decapitations, but for the most part, I was content with the new direction.
Another issue I had with the graphics was the framerate and resolution clarity. No matter what resolution I chose, the game still had that muddy look at times while past NG had a much more crisp image with clarity.
I'd compare the graphics to Microsoft's Ninja Blade; but I'd give the edge to Ninja Blade without doubt.
Sound-
At first, the character groans seemed cool. That is...until you hear them a million times. The bad guys death groans sound identical and it does get annoying at times. The music wasn't exactly my cup of tea and to be honest, none of the tunes are memorable in my opinion. You get the same fight music every time you fight which is reminiscent of Devil May Cry, the voice acting on the other hand is pretty good. I wasn't exactly crazy about Ryu's voice. He'd sound much better with a more "gruff" sound than his generic voice pattern.
Meh.
Gameplay-
Not really a fan of it. In the past NG games, there was much more to do than simply fight wave after wave of enemy. Heck, there may be more variety in Dynasty Warriors games than this.
I really didn't like the fact that it had such limited platforming sequences, lack of exploration or hidden goodies, you can't level up your weapon (instead, you're given a new weapon ever so often), and despite the fact that the demo featured 3 weapons, you only get ONE MELEE WEAPON (SWORD), a bow or some shurikens. If you check DLC, you can "buy" a pack of weapons...really? That was easily the worst aspect about this game.
I did enjoy some of the boss battles such as the copter fight, but then there were some really dumb boss fights. For example, you'll fight a big T-Rex, that has the most predictable pattern of attacking. No matter how you amp the difficulty, this dinosaur is about as stupid as a boss can be. It will chase you and bash it's own head then fall down leaving itself open to being attacked. It can also bite you or swing it's tail, but it's primary attack would be the same charge over and over. This was such a dull boss fight that I wouldn't dare play it again.
There's no Muramasa shop. In fact, after every battle, you're instantly healed based on how good you do during fights. You also have one magic attack and after it's initiated, you can either kill enemies in one blow whilst being healed.
In all honesty, this game isn't even worthy of the Ninja Gaiden title. It took gamers the longest to master the original Ninja Gaiden and the first boss who was your master was really difficult to defeat in the first Ninja Gaiden. Not only were the bosses in NG1 extremely hard, but the enemies were nightmares. Did Tecmo/Team Ninja forget about the "black ninjas" which required so much skill to defeat?
Instead, what you get is a game with the Ninja Gaiden license that lacks everything that was fun about the previous games.
I'll admit that it can be a fun game at times, but after fighting wave after wave of enemies, lack of weapons or upgrades, a forgettable story, and a glitchy multiplayer, this is the worst of the series. It reminds me of Devil May Cry 2 only not as good. If you can get it cheap, buy it for achievements and some action. However, if you're looking for a NG experience, stick to Ninja Gaiden Black or NG2.
Gameplay: with only a few combos and a bow and a sword, Hayashi took out all of the variety of the gameplay. Also there is no inventory system at all this time, no upgrades and the controls are not as responsive as they should be. The rope movement and the kunai climb were very annoying and repetitive during the entire game. You can only have one ninpo and you don't really get much choice of when you want to use it. The ultimate techniques are just a bunch of one kill slashes. Much of what everyone else is saying about the game is true, the levels are just awful for the most part. There are two levels where the screen just darkens and you fight little bug enemies to guide your way...talk about lazy.
I think Hayashi just had a lot of bad ideas and has no vision for a real action game. The previous games were not perfect and needed improvements, but Hayashi just made things worse. Like the camera is worse than ever, I also found it hard to get used the the button controls to taggle the camera as I have been used to hitting Right trigger(this made it odd shooting arrows) I don't think this guy has the right vision for the series and they need ot get someone else in from now on. I should have known that Hayashi was kind of an idiot for removing the blood from NG2 Sigma. And also for removing dismemberment saying "we no longer want to see it."
Some things Hayashi actually did right? I like having an NPC with you during the fighting so it just feels like I am getting some kind of help. Also the story is better than previous games, but it's still crazy. And multiplayer is alright.
That's about it. In short, if you have to have it...get it used.

By dumbing down the difficulty they also dumbed down the enemies and they are repetitive with you having to fight the same guys over and over and over, and the voice dialog SUCKS with the characters saying the same few lines over and over again as you are fighting them.
To start the game you have ONE weapon, the sword and later you get the BOW. But that's it unless you get the Ninja Pack Lite DLC to get the claws and sythe. So no swapping of weapons or any real strategy in the game...you can just spam Steel And Bone attacks ad-nauseum to build your KI gauge, hold down Y to unleash an Ultimate attack and then use NINPO far too frequently to clear areas.
NINPO in the game is also annoying and non-strategic at all.
Graphics in this game are good, especially during the cut-scenes but the PLOT/STORY oh my god it is so bad! And all the Quicktime Events, especially the jumping out of a helicopter and off a building and hitting Y to take a guy out gets real old, real fast.
All in all this a game I can't recommend at all. Boring. Uninspired, and NOTHING like previous Ninja Gaiden titles. Avoid at all costs.
