For some reason, it seems that this game isn't making much of a splash in terms of sales or popularity, which is a shame. I suppose we could attribute that partially to last week's release of Battlefield 3 and this week's release of Uncharted 3. Battlefield 3 is a quality game for shooter fans, no doubt, but I appreciate the fact that Goldeneye: Reloaded has a lengthier campaign with no cheap deaths. I sincerely hope this game doesn't get lost in the shuffle. I haven't dabbled into Multiplayer much but from what I can tell it has a good variety of maps with some nice unlockables. Obviously, the Mutiplayer component isn't as comprehensive as that in a game like Battlefield 3, but there are some Multiplayer modes that you haven't played to death in other games, some of which seem to be exclusive to this game entirely--i.e. Golden Gun and Heroes mode. If you're a Multiplayer fan, I think there is some merit in this title in that you will have some exciting game types other than the obligatory Team Deathmatch and Free for All. Classic Bond villains also make appearances in MP, which is a nice little touch for all of you Bond historians. (I ain't one.) Four-player split-screen can be played two ways: locally or online, the former's inclusion being somewhat tributary to the N64 classic. MI6 ops is a new gameplay mode which is very much comparable to "Spec Ops" in MW2, minus the ability to play with a friend. These side missions supplement the main action provided by Goldeneye's campaign and the Multiplayer action. And for all you fellow Campaign players, I have some good news: unless your a beast, after seven hours of gameplay, you'll still probably have a few missions left to complete!
It's my understanding that this game was originally released on the Wii about a year ago. I don't own a Wii, so I can't compare this version to that one. But if you have a PS3 or an Xbox 360, or if you are doing Holiday shopping for your household shooter fan, I highly recommend this game even for those who care little for the Bond franchise in general. For parents, you may be pleased to learn that this game features less vulgar language, although it does have the intense action sequences that us shooter fans demand. If you're not old enough to buy M-rated games, you can't go wrong with this title. I would at least recommend this game as a rental. Keep in mind that, because of its Teen rating, the action isn't quite as brutal as you may have come to expect. For me, Goldeneye 007: Reloaded was worth the price of admission.
I especially like the fact that new objectives are added everytime you go up a level of play, so there are more things you must do, more rooms that you have to find a way into (they are there all the time, you just don't need to get to them in all levels).
So far I've played through 007 level, including a repeat run at operative level using the Move with the Sharp Shooter (nice gun, very well integrated) and I'm currently having a go at the MI6 Operations.
I'm looking forward to a play through at 007 Classic level, but waiting for a long weekend as I get the impression it will take a while.
Really liked the Nightclub - though that may be more to do with the music :-)
A little disappointed that the advertisements for this game include OddJob, Jaws etc but they seem to be only part of the on-line play, which I don't tend to do.
After this, my experience is negative. The game is challenging, especially when getting shot by enemies constantly hiding behind objects, firing while running, and shooting at you when you can barely see them. I wish as a player that Bond didn't only crouch behind objects, but could also hide and look around corners quickly like the enemies do. Most of what I don't like about the game is departures from the original Goldeneye, mostly features in my opinion that would have been easy to add, like more cheat options, and levels that weren't so "tunneled" where there is little exploration and constant shuffling from one check point to the next. The levels in the original had greater freedom and many more cheats that offered countless hours of fun replaying completed missions. It would have also been nice to have bots added in multiplayer just for fun (like COD). I don't understand why this feature is not added, especially since a game as old as Perfect Dark not only had bots, but bots that could be customized in appearance, habits, and difficulty. Also, the use of gadgetry is lacking in this game (only a hacking smartphone?), which is ironic with the technological advancements in real life since the original. The story mode is good on its own, but it radically departs from the original so much so that some of the nostalgia, simplicity, and story are lost.
Overall this is a good FPS game on its own, but I wish it stuck to the original more in the story & layout, and more features (cheats & bots) would have put this game up a couple stars.
