I gave this game 4 stars because I feel the story mode is too short. Once you beat the story mode though the dance challenges on harder levels are unlocked. The story is zany and hilarious. There are a few mini games to spice things up once in a while too. You can take a short break from dancing, and enter a fashion show- Getting 5 stars on that seems to be the real puzzle challenge in the game lol. without cheating in gamefaqs like I am tempted!)
There are enough cute outfits, and recognizable songs to keep everyone interested, and the characters Gabrielle meets on her path are quite amusing. I won't spoil your fun though, you have to play this one for yourself! Certainly worth the 30.00 and has replay value!
Story:
The game starts by Gabrielle sneezing so hard her soul splits from her body. That may the second greatest premise to a video game ever (Bad Dudes still #1). The rest of the story while whimsical and amusing, was never hilarious like everyone else claims. My favorite parts were the rationales to solve everything by dancing.
I bought this game mainly because of the cover art (I judge books by their cover apparently) and I thought that it would be a goth-ish themed rhythm game. Well as it turns out ol' Gabby was anything but goth. She uses phrases such as 'ginormous' and 'no problemo'. But it's alright, since due to a decent character customization I was able to dress her up ultra-cute which fit her personality much more. Still, I feel a little cheated.
Gameplay:
Typical rhythm gameplay here. If you have not played Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan go play those right now instead of this. Done? Ok. This game is like a simplified version of that. I didn't like that the targets were on the top screen and you just tapped anywhere on the bottom screen to hit them. Especially when some of their fat faces would block them. But none of that really matters as the game is still easy enough that I was getting Perfects on Impossible mode on my first try. I am by no means good at rhythm games either. You're looking to get about 4 hours worth of action out of this one.
Songs:
This is where the game takes a big hit in my book. The songs are either original creations(?) or classical compositions. There is no licensed music, nor music with any lyrics. And while I love classical music it's a good thing Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven are dead or else hearing what this game did to their pieces would kill them.
The 3D:
To be honest I only had the 3D going for about the first two minutes. The game didn't do anything interesting with it, and the intense focus required to hit targets just doesn't mesh up really well with 3D. This honestly feels like (and probably should have been) a normal DS game.
Overall, I wasn't terribly disappointed with the game. If it falls around the $15 mark it would be worth a pickup, but the whole time I was playing I wanted to go back and play Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan.
