Talked with Peter T at Microsoft when I could not download it the second time. I was getting "Press any key to start", many times and it would go no farther. So I deleted FS2020. Found that it was an "app" then right-clicked, chose Delete and something was deleted. But not all of it.
Peter said that I needed to go to Start>Settings>Apps>Microsoft Flight Simulator, click on it and pick uninstall. Then I could download again from the Microsoft Store.
But everything was not deleted. There were 3 folders. A 92GB folder, which could be deleted - that needs deleted because the second time, the download will hang if you specify the same name again. (no warnings). Two folders could not be deleted (WindowsApps & WpSystem) OR backed up. I don't know how anyone could backup with 2 folders that MS says you can't backup. Glad it was not my System drive. I downloaded a "Take Ownership" patch to the Registry. It worked so I could delete the 2 Folders, BUT I COULD NOT DOWNLOAD again from MS Store. So formatted the SSD, spent 2 hours recovering the other data. Then I could download again from MS Store. The 2 folders are now there, but I will not try to delete either of them again (they will be rebuilt on the next download).
PC is a Dell Precision (Xeon) running at almost 4Ghz. Graphics card is Radeon Pro WX 5100, memory size - 8192MB. Not a real gamer, but not a slouch either.
Wheel is Honeycomb Alpha, Nose up/down & throttle is by DesktopAviator, rudder pedals are Logitech.
All three work on Flight SimulatorX.
Only the rudder pedals work on FS2000.
The wheel partially works, but not well.
DesktopAviator is partially recognized, but none of it works.
I managed to get a Cessna 150 flying from the wheel and keyboard. It took me a while to get the 150 flying because of the parking brake. Ctrl+NUMDel does not release the brake, even though the screen says "Release Brake Ctrl+NumDel". I had to find a plane with a brake near the instrument panel that could be released. (not all planes have a brake release, haha).
It did not stay aloft, the engine speed was down to about 1200 (from 2200) and I could not increasee it with F3. It crashed.
I've learned a lot in the last four days, but I'll have to wait until FS2020 gets better.
Back to Flight SimulatorX.
1. Buy it off amazon. Fight with the xbox app figure which one of the 15 that appear on my list is the one I actually own, not one they are trying to push a free trial on. Game doesn't appear in my library. Why?
2. Game finally appears, but there are 4 of them for some reason. I just want to DL the one I bought. Why is this so f***ing difficult? Just let me DL the version I own.
3. Finally DL the game.
4. Run game.
5. Surprise! Requires one hundred and eighty f***ing one gigabyte update.
6. Takes 6 hours to DL on a 1GB/s connection. Let's face it, MS scrapped the entire game, fixed it, then called that an "update."
7. Ok, let's fly. Select free flight.
8. Crash to desktop during loading. MS claimed the game "should run great" on my PC.
9. Update my GPU driver again. Just did it a week prior.
10. Back to free flight. "Press CTL + NUM DEL to release parking brake"
11. Try every possible button combination to do it. Never works. No "parking brake" icon to push with the mouse on the A320 panel.
12. Give up on this absolute turd of a game.
This has been the worst experience of any game I have ever played. And I haven't even gotten to play it yet. It literally just f***s you every step of the way from purchase, to DL, to attempting to play it.
because most people with a simple joystick and rudders will enjoy this. I have a complete setup with console radios, switches, like a real plane, so that is where in some of the problems for me come from. So for now it's installed in my computer and every so often I go into it and update the downloads. I also check for compatibility downloads from the manufacturer GoFlight, of my console products. If you buy the cheapest version of it you'll be satisfied and for $50 some dollars it won't break your bank.
