There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I decided to buy this despite the negative reviews because I have other Withings products and I very much like the idea of integrated tools. After three nights with it I can tell you a few things.
It is easy to setup, it took about two minutes. The app provides very clear instructions and you don't need to do much other than tap next once or twice.
The measurements seem accurate. I am also a CPAP user and I have some data from my cpap machine. It takes extra work to get to that data in any useful way so this is much easier. I did compare the data and the Aura seems to reflect the same info in terms of how long and how deeply I was sleeping.
I didn't think I would like the built in light but I have to say it seems to work. I can't really say if it is subconscious or not at this point, maybe it doesn't matter if it is anyway as long as it works... I do see to fall asleep faster and wake up with less snoozing.
some complaints I have seen
C - The sensor is not long enough.
R - True, I don't sleep right on the edge of my bed either but Withings says the rounded end (with the cord) does NOT need to hang out the side of the bed. You can put the whole thing under and center it to where you normally sleep.
C - Its hard to setup or won't sync.
R - I wonder if this was a problem of the earlier software? I had no trouble setting it up.
C - Customer service is unresponsive.
R- Again I wonder if this has changed overall my experience was great? I contacted support to learn more about the sensor placement and received a response the same day.
C - Lack of instructions on which port to connect the sensor pad.
R - Personally I don't get this one it was very clear on the 1 page setup document that the group of two usb ports are for the sensor only. Maybe the instruction were not as clear at one point?
C - (unclear setup/instructions)Can I or can't I lay in the bed while calibrating the sleep sensor. (this is done once after you put it under your mattress)
R - The instructions and app say not to lay in the bed while it calibrates. They are adjusting for the weight of the mattress (or mattress topper)
C - It doesn't do X
R - They seem to be hard at work to bring more features. Currently the product tells you what it should and has a great clean user experience. You can see their roadmap here. https://withings.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203410183-Withings-Aura-Upcoming-Features-and-Fixes?preview%5Btheme_id%5D=201082606
Am I sleeping better? About an extra half hour of deep sleep on average. I bought a step tracker at the same time, so I don't know if it's the lights, the data or the increased exercise that is helping me sleep. I found another app, "Addapp" - the app provides a ton of actionable insight on all of the metrics (steps, sleep, and activity) that is actually useful. Withings doesn't really do sleep notes, so you don't get to see if caffeine, stress or late-night tv is affecting your sleep - I really dislike that. Also, Withings app doesn't really use data from ios Health to give you insights, which is why AddApp is so nice. I have a step tracker from another manufacturer, but Withings only uses the step data from the phone's pedometer, so it only knows how much the phone moves, not what my tracker is reporting.
Overall, this is a great product- I sleep a lot less than I realize and I love that the device tracks me without me having to start/stop it. The alarms are easily set and adjusted. It just takes some hacking to get the most out of the data, which feels really complicated right now, but overall, I'm sleeping better. I think that in time, companies will find better and better ways to aggregate and interpret the data. After reading about all of the sleep trackers out there, I really think that Withings is the way to go. My misfit flash gives the least useful data ever and I would not recommend a fitness tracker to monitor sleep (unless it's the Withings Pulse which is supposed to be awesome). Sleep cycle app is only so-so and you have to turn it on/off and constantly find a place under your sheets for a phone, but it provides more feedback on what is affecting your sleep based on what you record before bed.

i wanted to have acurate alarm clock so i bought it.
for this purpose, it works well.
However, sleeping time it records seems too short and quite different from that withings active(smart watch) shows.
my expectation for withings was too high so it is a littele disappointment.

It works.
Having ADHD and suffering from depression that comes and goes whenever it pleases, sleeping has always been hard for me. I've tried many things before, including sleeping pills, sleep tracker apps and meditation. Nothing works like this little device. The red light and the background sounds help you calm down and actually make you fall asleep quicker, while the alarm wakes you up very gently with your choice of either pleasant melodies that come with the Aura, or your music from spotify. In my experience the pre recorded tracks work better, as the waking is very gentle and smooth. 3 weeks in my energy levels are much higher, I have finally acquired a sleeping pattern, I fall asleep much quicker, wake up happy (according to online research this is because of the wavelength of blue light and how it affects the photoreceptors in our eyes) and generally feel healthier. Waking up is much easier. I'm a heavy sleeper, and used to set 8 alarms every morning to wake me up. Now I only need 1.
I have not encountered the problems with the sensor, but I sleep alone. Perhaps adding a second sensor might do the trick (but I'm just speculating here). So far the readings were quite accurate, and actually help you see how good is your quality of sleep. Seeing how much of REM sleep I get helps me with practicing lucid dreaming.
Pros:
-It works
-USB ports are a nice touch
-Spotify connectivity
-accurate sleep tracking
Cons:
-As previously mentioned the touch controls are a bit weird. The idea is nice, but the implementation is slightly overcomplicated.
-The app is not very well designed, but it does the job
-Cannot change the time of the alarm unless connected to bluetooth on your phone and paired with Aura. While it is mildly annoying, so far have not proven itself to be an issue, as the app lets you add multiple alarms for several days. Aura tracks your sleep every night and even if you're not connected, it will update the readings.
Despite the cons I give this device 5 stars simply because it works and does so brilliantly.
