Product Description
It’s 1968 and the rules have changed. After years in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: Family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home, in a reimagined New Orleans, Lincoln is set on rebuilding his life, but old ties keep him from leaving the city. It will take more than a few friends to make it in this new world. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city's underworld. It’s time to create a new family.

It has certainly met my expectations. I'll try and get the negatives out of the way beforehand, actually, negative - the glitching. The glitching is obviously expected and it is within reasonable expectations that a patch will be realised in the near future rectifying this.
Onto the posted:
1) Vivid open world set in the fictitious replica of New Orleons, and I feel it represents that era beautifully, to the point where even the music at parts played originated from New Orleons.
2) The storyline is immense, and from a very early point in the game, you feel an instant connection with the protagonist (Lincoln Clay) - I won't go into spoilers but there are a few scenes which are just amazing. The game also presents you with ways to shape the world YOU want to shape it, with decisions needing to be made over who to assign different territories, with differing consequences.
3) Choice between styles of play. The gameplay allows for both types of gamers to enjoy themselves, people who want to use stealth and manoeuvre their way through areas will find it satisfying, whilst those gunslingers amongst us will be equally satisfied. Although, during my gameplay I interchanged, as I found the game requires specific styles at specific times.
These are the 3 main points I found during my gameplay. I would definitely recommend this for anybody who is a fan of open world games, mafia fanatics and even casual gamers.
The graphics was really good, just as good and slightly different to how gta is shown, its fun driving around. You would believe being the late 60s there be no fast cars, there wasn't really any in Mafia II, I always found myself chugging along but some cars can really go.
With storylines like these there's only like 2 ways to go, naturally making your way through the ranks of being made in the mafia or out for revenge.
By being double crossed, left for dead and his family also killed he sets out to avenge their deaths and wishes to use tactics he learned while he was in the Vietnam war, accompanied by a friend who will gather the intel for him on who he needs to take down leading all the way to the main guy who arranged for what happened to him.
Around each part of the city and districts there as rackets ranging from drugs, gambling, prostitution and by going around to these places and destroying the merchandise, if any will disrupt the guy who runs it earnings and will make an appearance to know whats going on. When that happens you need to go and pay them a visit, again issued with a choice, kill them or let them live, letting them live will give you an extra $2000 but doesn't really do anything in the long run, you do what you want to do at the time.
Along the way you meet 3 other people, a woman whos looking out for her own people, an irish guy and Vito from Mafia II, he complains hes always being screwed over by everyone and never ends up with anything.
Each distract you fully take over (2 racket bosses per district) you assign it to one of the 3 people, assigning it to them they will give you upgrades to use, getting rid of police, buying explosives, weapons, more health bars. If you favour more to one or leave one with less or nothing they aren't going to be pleased with you. I treated them equally, given them districts each. There is different ways of playing the game and even different endings with leads to multiple game plays.
There is a lot to take out on the map, many markers of hitmen or other rackets even though you may of done enough to make the racket boss appear, I assume this is done to keep the player from being bored, hit 2 rackets and you are done, going straight to sort them out will be harder if you haven't sorted out their enforcers around the map, sorting them out will make take over easier.
For me it was a really easy game, I chose Normal setting with low aim help (can choose high aim which is auto targeted, or none for no help) creeping around stealth was like a joke, 90% of the time they never see you and even if they do they slowly walk towards you wondering what you are doing and that's it, take them down, when they find their dead friends they also don't seem too bothered, just a cheesy comment.
The music annoyed me, there's 3 radio stations and it seems to me they have like less than 10 songs that keep playing over and over, one of the things I was hoping for was as you can go around the city finding collectables, playboy covers (nothing exciting) album covers, that when you found the album cover the song would play on the radio but no such luck, I ended up turning it off completely.
I wasn't happy about the glitches, I cannot really complain as I refuse to make a psn account to download the updates, if I wish to sign in ive got to update the console to the latest firmware, so much control from Sony, I even had the idea of copying my game save to usb to prepare for the possibility of multiple endings but it said "you need to be online to copy saves to usb" crazy.
So upon my playthrough I encountered 5 complete crashes with error code (the game saves all the time so not a problem) I kept declining to the terms of agreement that pops up each time, but it wouldn't disappear unless I agreed, which I still refuse to.
There's been faceless enemies, floating objects, police vanishing, gps map going black except for player cursor, main map sometimes displayed all collectables and side missions and then there was times it didn't. I wished to do a side mission for one of the 3 partners where you steal a truck of moonshine, 4 times out of 5 I be on the way back to his safehouse and poof, the truck vanishes, im left stood there in the road.
The violence can be cringing when using the knife but this is also optional, you switch between lethal and non lethal take downs, sleeperhold or knife though the face.
I do look forward to the 3 expansion packs they have announced but wont be jumping to buy them, I should know by now with big games like this there's always going to be glitches, i miss the good old days where you buy a game disc and its close to perfect, no crashes or such.
I found it very fun and tried to complete as much as possible, will play it again someday and make different decisions.
