About the author

I’m the award-winning author of three novels (including two published by Legend Press), and a novelette, “10,000 Hours” (Prole Books), which according to the New Yorker was “a very striking story; its plot is masterfully conducted; the setting is oppressive but never stagnant, as the story ultimately has an interesting twist.” Dozens of of my short stories and poems have been published in print anthologies and magazines including 3:am, Aesthetica, Prole and Enthusiastic Press. I’m also a prolific freelance journalist with hundreds of features published in the nationals, including The Telegraph, Spectator, Times, Sunday Times, Guardian, Independent and New Statesman. Having first presented a Channel 4 show in 1987 I’ve been interviewed on Radio 4, 5 Live and several other BBC stations; appeared on and researched for TV; and I’m credited on a feature-length documentary. I also contribute to Private Eye and in 2019 helped write the script for BAFTA-winning artist Alison Jackson’s acclaimed West End show “Double Fake”. A member of the Society of Authors since 2008, I have received several generous awards from literary organisations including four from the Royal Literary Fund and one from the Authors’ Foundation.
