About this ebook

On a cold and rainy night, Billy Jo McCabe receives a troubling phone call about a child in trouble. But when she shows up alone, things quickly go sideways, and she realizes her mistake.

“When Billy Jo is called in the middle of the night to assist a child, she ends up being kidnapped. But it appears she’s not the goal but rather a means to an end that involves Mark.” Yvonne, Bookbub Reviewer

NY Times & USA Today bestselling author Lorhainne Eckhart brings you The Trap a new Billy Jo McCabe Mystery as one fan describes, “The intrigue and suspense in this book held me riveted and unable to put it down.” (Rebmay, Reviewer)

“Adventure and mystery always happens to Billy Jo. After taking a late night call her nightmare becomes reality. Can Mark save the day and solve the mystery.”  S. Jordans, Goodreads

In her role as a social worker, Billy Jo rarely expects to walk into trouble, and the last thing she ever wants to do is call for backup from arrogant redheaded detective Mark Friessen, whom she’s beginning to depend on in the kinds of ways she shouldn’t. When she gets a call late one night about a child in trouble, Billy Jo doesn’t hesitate to drive out alone. However, she arrives to find the property abandoned, and with only one bar of battery on her phone and no cell service, she realizes far too late that she’s walked into a dark situation.

When Billy Jo doesn’t show up for work the next day, Detective Friessen is called in to find her. As he follows her trail and retraces her steps, he soon discovers her car abandoned in a field, and he has an uneasy feeling that her disappearance isn’t an accident. The more he searches, the more he fears that this is a trap—not for her but for him.

inequalities within systems are hard to avoid, as societies are made up of inherently flawed humans. People and corporations that capitalize on such flaws with high human costs are despicable. Detective Mark is revealed in this particular book as a once naive new deputy whose ideals made him an imperfect investigator- mostly because as an inexperienced deputy, he expected action to be taken for a victim who came from a targeted population if he brought forth enough evidence. Instead, nothing happened except a reprimand and his temporary suspension. Yet the costs of a crime are often reaching far beyond one victim. This seems to have been the beginnings of Mark going the extra mile when investigating. A determined individual knows well and exploits the flaws in the DCFS system, and Billy Jo is easily drawn into a dangerous target zone. we finally get a chance for a bit more dialogue with her father, Chase McCabe. He might ultimately work towards changing some of the systemic flaws. But what will the costs be for Billy Jo? For the McCabes? For Mark? Intense action and psychological challenges and drama.

We are back with social worker Billy Jo McCade, and detective Mark Friessen and the small NW island where nothing is at it seems and where the chief of police seems to be keeping secrets. When Billy Jo is called in the middle of the night to assist a child , she ends up being kidnapped. But it appears she’s not the goal but rather a means to an end that involves Mark. While the plot thickens and we discover the reason for the kidnapping, Mark’s involvement and also how Mark and Billy Jo are being looked upon as a couple by the residents of the island, it’s the underlying story that is just as important. That being the reality of the treatment of the Native Americans in the reservations, the lack of assistance, the looking the other way when injustices are committed etc, are facts that are truly occurring in our society. A need for government to change their ways is eminent for these individuals to find justice, assistance and a better future. Another thought provoking story by this very talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Billy Jo and Mark see themselves enrolled in a trap by a brother looking for revenge for the death of his sister. It takes some time for Mark and the police force to realize what happened and discover the lies that led to that situation. The plot is believable, the anger of the culprit is misplaced but it is real and certainly can be found in many places/countries and involving a number of minorities. As usual, Lorhainne writing flows is full of emotion and keeps the reader intrigued to learn the end. It´s one very entertaining and easy reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
