ASUS EyeCare Flicker-Free TechnologyFlicker is caused by the rapid on/off cycle of the LED backlight as it tried to maintain the brightness of the display. It constantly bombards the eye with varying levels of brightness which causes fatigue and strain as your eye tries to adjust. Certified flicker-free by TUV Rheinland laboratories, the PB258Q removes onscreen flicker by using Smart Dynamic Backlight Adjustment. |
ASUS EyeCare Low Blue Light FilterRecent studies have found that blue light from monitors may cause eye damage, strains, headaches, and sleep disorders. ASUS Blue Light Filter protects your eyes from harmful blue light; a new OSD menu lets you easily access and select four different filter settings onscreen for the best balance for protection and entertainment. |
VESA MountFully ergonomic, tilt, swivel, pivot, and adjust height for the most comfortable viewing angles, perfect for long computing sessions. |

Horrible Amazon Shipping: Amazon's shipping was actually atrocious (photos included). They put my monitor box inside of a box almost twice its size with ZERO padding aside form a single crumpled piece of paper. Part of the reason is because it was supposed to be shipped with another item, in this case, cable ties. A very very small package. But, its so illogical, I can hardly believe a human packed this with any good intention as there was a good 12~14 inches inside the box on either side for it to bounce around from the guaranteed abuse it receives from mail services. Sunglasses on one of the photos for scale reference.
The monitor box itself is extremely well packed and secured. Which is massive thumbs up for Asus, because I was actually expecting my monitor to be in pieces considering Amazon's appalling shipping. It came with all the cables that match the inputs, and setting it up was easy.
Base & Stand: 5/5
The monitor base and arm are very heavy and show significant strength in build quality. The height is easily adjustable.
Screen Quality: 5/5
Having used the monitor now for about a full week doing both work and gaming, I can honestly say this is one of the best monitors I've owned. Out of the box color calibration is decent, though not perfect. It should work fine for most casual people, but if you are a professional in the design fields you absolutely should invest in a monitor calibration tool such as the ColorMunki Display. The bezels are flush with the screen and quite small, which make this a fantastic monitor for multi monitor setups and the VESA mounting on the back is icing on the cake. I have no dead pixels. And there is actually no light bleed at all even in a pitch black room. HOWEVER, there is fairly significant IPS glow, which is to be expected from this technology, though this needs to be improved Asus. This could be a deal breaker for some, but depending on your use it could be just fine. I love that there are actual physical buttons on the monitor itself which make night time operation easier and more intuitive, as well trouble free, as the capacitive alternatives on other monitors don't seem to work well. The OSD menu is ok and should work for most people.
Other thoughts
On gaming the 60hz is noticeable and not something you'd want to downgrade to if you have 144hz panel. With that said however, there is no noticeable input lag, even in fast paced shooters such as Overwatch. Just turn Vsync/Triple buffering off and allow your frames to crank way up for the most responsive experience though you will experience tearing. On slower games such as Witcher 3, I'm running Vsync for smoothness, and its about as buttery smooth as a 60hz panel will ever feel with no ghosting or other strange artifacts like that.
All in all I'm EXTREMELY pleased with the monitor and am definitely considering replacing my other monitors with this exact model to have maybe a 2~3 monitor setup with mounting.
Product 5/5
Amazon shipping: 0/5 Seriously amazon, get that checked out. I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason so many monitors are getting returned is due to terrible packaging for shipping.

Amazon shipping: 0/5 Seriously amazon, get that checked out. I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason so many monitors are getting returned is due to terrible packaging for shipping.
Stand:
Solid, weighty and Configurable, but they have large footprint. I'm going to get some arms to free up my desk space.
Glossy or Matte?
It's deffo not glossy but there is some reflectivity. If your workspace only has only one light source (bedroom) this might be an issue at some angles.
Bezel:
These are technically bezel-less but there is still a 1/4" black border around the screen. This doesn't bother me with my dual setup, but if this is an issue for you, you may want to investigate further.
Connections:
I bought two DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort cables to connect the screens. I would advice against HDMI connections if you want high resolution image quality.
Audio:
Flat and one-dimensional sound. Don't bother hooking it up unless you just want to hear your computer's system sounds. Videos sound pretty bad, music would be worse, lol.
For those of you wishing to output 1440p from an apple computer older than 2013, please note you will need to connect this monitor (and other 1440p monitors) via DISPLAY PORT (via mini DP to DP adapters sold on amazon) and not HDMI. This was a huge frustration for me when I initially tried to set up this monitor as I used HDMI and was only able to display in 1080p upscaled to 1440p which looked awful as it was blurry and over-zoomed causing eye strain.
As for the monitor, none of the presets did it for me, most were oversaturated and had the brightness way too high (100% on standard mode I believe). I ended up settling on standard mode with brightness dropped down to 40, contrast at 65. Please note you will need to take a few minutes to tweak this monitor exactly to your liking.
This monitor does have some light bleed, more than I expected and would've liked. Although this is a standard consequence of using an IPS panel, I previously owned an ASUS PB238Q 1080p IPS monitor and that one had much less light bleed. I am not sure how much this varies from monitor to monitor so yours may have less. Please note that the light bleeding in the corners is really only noticeable when the monitor is almost completely black (mostly during dark scenes in movies or video games). Other than in those situations, the light bleed is not a distraction.
As this was my first 1440p monitor, I realized right away that the web browsing text was much too small. To fix this, I simply went into chrome settings and set the default zoom to 125% and am now having a much better experience.
This monitors colors are very vibrant, noticeably better than the colors on the ASUS PB238Q IPS monitor I previously owned. The this bezels on this monitor are a nice plus and overall it is a sexy looking monitor.
Please note, this monitor is semi-matte, not fully matte. My previous monitor, the ASUS PB238Q was much more matte and diffused light much better than this monitor. You will see some light reflections, but nowhere near as much as with a glossy display such as Apple displays.
My final comment is to please be 100% sure your graphics card in your computer can support 2560x1440p. Trust me, you will not be happy if forced to upscale 1080p to this monitor as it will look significantly worse than a native cheaper 1080p monitor.

PROS:
