Before this case the single best feature of a Pi would have been an inline power switch. I use my Pi a lot both as a low power desktop and as a retro gaming device and I managed in all that use to almost completely destroy the USB power input. I wrenched it to the side at some point and while it still worked the thing didn't have much time left. So, I went looking for a way to supply power over the GPIO pins. I'd seen this case before and thought, "That is cool. I'd like to have one of those.", and honestly I thought it was just a neat looking case. A cheap NES themed case was all I really thought about it... then I saw one in a YouTube video and how it mounted the Pi inside, provided power through the GPIO pins, had all the USB ports in the front, and the safe shutdown option.
I. WAS. SOLD.
This case is everything I needed. It saved my Pi. On top of that it has other nice features. For one, it completely negated my need for an inline power switch. The safe shutdown controls mean that it switches the Pi on and off for me. So I no longer need to plug it in and just keep it running forever for no reason. I use my Pi a few hours a day, not really a "leave it on all the time" system. I could leave it on, and did. The Pi sips power, but I'd rather not just waste electricity like that. The built in power off function is great for me.
On top of that, the case looks great. I love having a tiny NES sitting on my desk and for retro gaming it is just satisfying.
One of my only complaints about it is that there aren't side or rear USB connections. I'd rather not have my keyboard and mouse sticking out the front if I can help it. I might mod it to put a USB hub in the back to solve that minor gripe. There is plenty of space in the case for something like that. My other complaint is the lack of screws for a fan in the kit. I had a fan from my previous case, but the screws were not the same type as needed for this, so the fan is just clipped in there and I'm not 100% sure it is flush enough against the case to draw in enough cool air. I worry that it is only getting a little cool air and recirculating the hot stuff... but it isn't like I'm having any temp issues with my Pi so it is probably fine.
Over all, I really like this case and wouldn't mind getting another for any Pi based projects I might have in the future.
First, it looks like a proper mini-sized NES console. With a Pi3 running RetroPie and a BT SNES controller, it’s pretty close to the real thing; in my mind, surpassing it.
Second, it comes with a proper set of instructions and a crappy little screwdriver (it works for one time use) so putting it together was a piece of cake. Or pie. Whatever. You won’t break anything if you put on a connector backwards, so that’s a huge plus if you’re too good for a sheet of paper that literally tells you how to do it correctly.
Third, this comes with a proper power button and a reset switch. So, if you don’t want to use this as a game emulator, you can still use it for projects that you may or may not want on 100% of the time or simply want to be able to reset when the kernel panic has you reaching for the plug.
Build quality is pretty good. Seems durable. No complaints after about 45 days.
I completely recommend the Retroflag NESPi case, especially for under $20.
I bought a fan and a set of heat sinks for this, and the only thing I don't like about this is that to keep the visual aesthetic they compromised airflow when using a fan. The air from the fan I installed is blocked almost completely, but the Pi shouldn't be overheating anyway so it's not a huge issue. I did bypass the built-in fan headers and used a free 5V pin on the GPIO but I got undervolt warnings periodically. When I moved the fan back to the built-in headers in the case (3.3V) the warnings went away.
Be aware that the screws the case comes with work fine but they're pretty cheap. You can strip them out if you try to tighten them too much. No need to close it so hard that the two halves of the case fuse into one, just get them snug so there's no movement between the two halves.
The feet on the underside are nice and grippy, and I really liked that they included little covers over them that I had to remove so they didn't get dirty before it got to me.
I modified the Arcade1up cabinet with a Pi 3B and got this case to be able to gracefully power off/on so the microSD card can stop betting corrupted every time my kids kill the power to the cabinet.
Once installed, install the script and execute it - it works flawlessly. very good purchase.

The wiring used in this case is much more robust. In fact due to the thickness of the wire, they can be relatively stiff, and need to be bent into a shape a bit before installing your motherboard. The screws that attach to the motherboard and the ones used to close up the case fit much better now. Before, the holes were too small, but these seem to be much better.
After installing the safe shutdown package, the reset and power buttons now run the proper scripts, which is great. Just make sure you enable the function with the switch inside the case before you install your Raspberry Pi board.
