Discovering Wolfpack Publishing digital volumes of this excellent series of books was a delight! Don Coldsmith presents a plausible account of what life very well may have been for indigenous peoples and foreign explorers of the western plains. Historical fiction readers will not be disappointed! Coldsmith’s knowledge, research, and straightforward writing is appreciated!

I first read 28 of the 29 books as a friend lent me his copies after he read them. Book 29, “Moon of Madness” was published after Coldsmith’s passing and must have had a limited run as used prices fetch a steep price. Sadly, book 29 is omitted from the digital volume. Curiously, book 7, “Moon of Thunder” is also not in the digital volume. However, certainly the price for each of the Wolfpack Publishing digital volumes is right for this incredible work! Stand along Coldsmith books should be considered as well. My second reading continues.

An amazing author!! I have collected and read Don Coldsmith's Spanish Bit Series at least three times and have once again started the series. I just completed the first volume of the Elk Dog's People amazing journey through the history of the Plains Indians and of the horse. There's so much history involving the horse and the natives written into this saga. Coldsmith holds your attention hour after hour in the way he describes the history, the people, families and their customs in this fictionalized American History lesson! As a lover of horses, American history and the American Indian, I find that I can be immersed in his books for hours at a time. Truly a great American author.
