Important information
Ingredients
Our overnight diapers are made of chlorine free wood pulp fluff, a mixture of corn and wheat derived polysaccharide and sodium polyacrylate (also referred to as SAP or absorbent gel), polyolefin nonwoven fabric, adhesives, polyolefin film, synthetic rubber elastic strandsThe color of disposable diapers is typically achieved through the addition of color pigments to their inner and outer cover materials. This is also true for Seventh Generation diapers. While most designs on the market use pigments that result in a white color, we use a small amount of blended color pigments to impart a tan color to our diapers. The blend is proprietary to the supplier of the pigment. To the best of our knowledge, there are no known toxicity issues associated with the use of these pigments in our diapers. Without the addition of color pigments, these materials would be colorless, much like a plastic milk jug. We use brown pigments to help distinguish Seventh Generation Overnight Diapers from others in the marketplace that are bleached with chlorine-containing substances. All disposable diapers, including Seventh Generation’s, rely on man-made materials to deliver the high-level performance that parents expect of modern diapers. These materials are mostly petroleum-derived and are not renewable, which adversely impacts the environmental footprint associated with these products. At Seventh Generation, we are pleased to offer an alternative that is not bleached with chemicals containing chlorine and contains corn-and wheat-derived materials to reduce the use of non-renewable petrochemicals. We are constantly working hard to further improve the sustainability of our diaper products.About ChlorineThe wood pulp used in our diapers has not been processed with chemicals containing chlorine. This prevents dangerous chlorinated toxins from being released into the environment through the pulp production process.

As a temporary quick-fix, we picked up some Pampers Baby Dry Diapers Jumbo Pack, Size 6, 23 Count , as our local stores do not yet stock Seventh Generation Overnights. Maybe Pampers run large-- we chose the size according to his weight, but they fit very high on our son's hip, so leaks still happened. Or perhaps these diapers weren't intended for overnight protection-- if so, then the sleeping cartoon baby had me duped. Regardless, I'm not reviewing Pampers, I only want to offer a basis for comparison.
These Seventh Generation diapers fit much better on my son. We have found that a snug, high-up fastening has worked best for him in general, and these diapers have allowed just the right amount of leg room. In fact, they have worked so well for our little guy that I'm astonished that there are any negative reviews. Maybe this is not a one-size-fits-all solution? All babies/toddlers are shaped a bit differently-- as I mentioned earlier, the Pampers fit WAY too high on his hip. My son is a stocky kid-- not fat, but he weighs 36 pounds at 36 inches tall, and despite being barely two, he's in 4T clothes (there is no end to unsolicited speculation about his future as a football player). He's also a thirsty guy. Ever see those commercials where they use a water balloon to demonstrate a diaper's effectiveness? That's a fairly accurate representation of his nighttime situation. Leading up to the switch, if there wasn't a leak in the morning, the diaper was always fully saturated to the point that one more "deposit" would do it.
These diapers are bit enigmatic in terms of pliability. They can seem quite stiff from the outside, but remain soft and pliable on the inside. Perhaps this is a design feature to prevent front-top leaks, as it seems to keep the diaper from laying directly against genitalia and forcing it in one direction or another. At first, this stiffness led me to believe that my son had already filled his diaper, though when I changed him, I found that the opposite was true, and he had urinated maybe once, if that. Once I got used to the outer stiffness creating a tenting effect, though, I found that these diapers were just what we needed to solve our nighttime woes. It's been a week or two since we started using these diapers, and there have been no leaks so far. I couldn't be happier.
In the end I can only vouch for my personal experience. My heart goes out to parents who've tried this diaper without any luck. However, if you've got yourself a leaky little linebacker, these just might be the diapers to try.
They do not have any artificial scents, and needless coloring and not harsh chemicals. They are reliable - meaning the tabs on the sides do not break off, contained all that it's meant to contain. My child never had any diaper rush. We are satisfied with these diapers. Also whether we use the overnight diapers or the regular ones, there would be no leaks, but obviously the night diaper have more of capacity (I do make my kid go the the bathroom before bed time).
We initially used Earths Best, but found it frustrating because although the diaper served its purpose the tabs would either get stuck so when you peel them the diaper would rip, or the pulls would rip off all together. 25+ cents per diaper this was a lot of waste.
Broody Chicken 100% compostable diaper were very nice! but they were not part of the auto delivery and are a bit more expansive. We used them when my child was a newborn.
They are amazing! Super soft, stretchy tabs and most importantly, NO LEAKS!
I tried a couple other big brand overnight diapers that we so unreliable, that every night was like a suspense movie - tonight, will he or won’t he wake up leaking forcing us to have to change him in the middle of the night??! Unnecessary stress for a mama. But I kept giving it a chance because they were supposed to be the best, although I truly did not like that their materials were a lot less on the natural side than I would prefer (we used Andy Pandy bamboo diapers and cloth for the first year or so).
Back to SG, it’s been now 2 weeks of using these every night with absolutely no leaks. These hold everything - and my 19 month old is a big drinker (um, water, that is). Even before bed he likes to guzzle water. So these are truly lifesavers.
