-screen is little to big for my hands
-the gestures are kind of weird for people that are used to traditional 3 button layouts of controls
Pros
-can change the gestures to the traditional 3 button layout if you wish
-light power consumption
-fairly fast charge times
-36% battery can last a whole day on light use with it ended with around only 10% of the power remaining
-fast access to google assistant
-finger print gestures are nice
Overall the product is not a flagship by any means but it definitely packs a punch for how much it costs. Paired with android one and no bloat ware on it. If you use googles back up you can literally swap phones and its like it picks off right where your old phone was left off. It uses very little power and it shows with little hitches every now and again but for an inexpensive phone its hard to beat. Nokia defiantly improved on older phones but with the trend of bigger phones becoming the norm it is a little disappointing. Would recommend for a daily use phone, or for a back up for a more expensive phone you don't want to damage on outings and adventures.
It's fast enough to do some light gaming on and will definitely take care of any ordinary surfing, emailing, texting, tasks with no delay. Great phone! I'll more than likely stick with Nokia for the next one as well.
I was able to upgrade to a Moto G Stylus at a discount through T-Mobile. It retails at just $70 more than this phone and is MILES better. I'd DEFINITELY recommend the Moto over the Nokia if you have the cash to spare.
I purchased this Nokia 5.3 because of the Android One system. It’s about as clean as Android gets. An update to Android 11 is guaranteed as well as security patches. In fact, Nokia is supposed to be the one cellphone manufacturer who patches their cellphones faster than all other manufacturers. Well, I’ve had the Nokia 5.3 one month and the security patch still shows as March 5, 2020. This takes off TWO STARS from my review. Once Nokia pushes out a patch that will bring this phone up-to-date for security, I’ll give back the two stars. AS OF SEPTEMBER 26, 2020 I HAVE GIVEN THIS PHONE FIVE STARS AS THE PATCH LEVEL WAS UPDATED TODAY TO SEPTEMBER 1, 2020. THIS IS A VERY GOOD PHONE. I JUST HOPE THEY KEEP UP WITH THE PATCHING.
I don’t use a cellphone for its camera but I’ve played around with it and it seems to work fine and produce decent, natural color images.
As for the cellphone, it’s really very nice. It has voLTE (Voice Over LTE) which helps make calls very clear. For voice, the speaker is loud and clear albeit, listening to music is typically “tinny”. The antenna in the Nokia 5.3 seems a lot stronger than what was in the Moto G5+. Signals are now strong with the Nokia 5.3 where they were actually weak or nearly nonexistent with the Moto G5+.
It’s a hefty cellphone, having good weight and well-balanced weight. The back is a type of plastic that is scratch resistant but my cellphone came with a clear form-fitting case. Gorilla glass makes the screen scratch resistant.
The screen itself isn’t the most brilliant but it’s good enough when you use the cellphone for calls, texting, emails and some Internet surfing. As a cellphone, I cannot complain and I’m quite satisfied with the Nokia 5.3. I only hope they push out the updated security patches soon or my satisfaction might turn into dissatisfaction.
