A Murderous Tryst: A Regency Cozy (Beatrice Hyde-Clare Mysteries Book 11) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 696 ratings

The past rears its gorgeous head …

Deeply distressed to discover her husband lied about his whereabouts the day before, Beatrice, Duchess of Kesgrave, emerges from a wretched night’s sleep to discover him embracing the most beautiful woman she has ever seen.

His former mistress!

It is shocking, yes, but not so very alarming, for Penelope Taylor is actually there to see Bea. Her dearest friend has been brutally slain, and as Millicent Lloyd happened to be sleeping in the courtesan’s bed at the time, Mrs. Taylor is the only suspect. The magistrate is impatient to cart her off to Newgate and refuses to acknowledge the truth that is glaringly obvious to her:
She was the intended victim.

Poor Millie, murdered in her stead!

Persuaded by the evidence, Bea accepts the assignment, launching an investigation to prove the innocence of her husband’s former lover, whose fond recollections of her liaison with the duke confirm she is anything but innocent. Following the clues—and the trail of broken hearts discarded by Mrs. Taylor—
Bea realizes she is looking for a villain more diabolical than any she has ever known.

And this one will not hesitate to strike again.

This narrator is by far one of my favorites for her talent with multiple characters’ voices is amazing! So I highly recommend this book on Audible if you enjoy listening to books! But without the amazingly funny, endearing and well written story her talent would not shine quite so brightly!
If you haven’t read or listen to the first 10 in the series then you must before reading the book, otherwise you’ll have quite a few spoilers. I don’t like to say much of what happens in the books I read for fear of giving off spoilers unintentionally, however I will state that the interesting way this book starts off grabs you. This book also makes you want to read the spinoff series “A Lark’s Tale,” which will more than likely be my next two reads.
Set in Victorian times England, the former Beatrice Hyde-Claire, now the Duchess of Kesgrave has become a famous lady runner. Along with her husband the Duke, they are presented with yet another mystery to solve. But Beatrice is slightly distracted by events that had happened the day before, the question is will the distraction mess up the investigation or drive a wedge between the Duke and Duchess? The only way to know is to read and find out!
I hope this helps you find your next Tantalizing Tome!

Another fun installment in the Beatrice Hyde-Clare mystery series! I love the inclusion of the Verity Lark story line, and hope the same expansion continues for Flora. Can't wait for them to partner on cases! The banter and love between Bea and Damien is so sweet and their relationship is natural. The final scenes had a lot of great humor with some new characters shining. My only small gripe is Bea's continued low self esteem, her anxieties are consistent with the ones from the earlier books and I do hope to see progress away from that in any future additions.

This writer has a well plotted mystery presented with a great sense of fun and style. The addition of Verity Lark to this series was brilliant. Strong male and female characters set against a time of huge class distinctions, rigid rules, and those who live within them and those who break them. The relationships among the classes are fascinating. The characters are people you want to spend time with. I've read them all and they are all good ways to spend a delightful evening. Can't wait for the next book!

Thanks to the author for a most enjoyable read. Her use of the language is wonderful. The description of Mrs, Taylor is worth the whole story. The plot and its twists are what kept me reading. The whole thing was just so fun!

I can’t wait for a new book in this series because it has quite consuming. The plots are each unique and I haven’t been able to anticipate the stories until I read them. Her writing is an enjoyable way for me to increase my vocabulary because she writes in the language more appropriate to the time and it’s obvious that she’s done a lot of research and is quite knowledgeable within the environments which encase her stories. She’s my new favorite favorite author and I will be reading everything she has written. Enjoy 👍👍👍💜

A bit too much narrative and not enough dialogue...but the characters are terrific. Their relationship grows with the ups and downs of marriage, and the plot is suspenseful.

When I first started reading Beatrice Hyde-Clare mysteries, I was not a reader of the historical mystery genre. Since the first book, I have fallen in love with the world seen through the eyes of Bea, Damien and the eccentric mix of characters. I wonder if any of them are based on Miss Messina’s family? The latest book, A Murderous Tryst starts out in true Bea fashion, which humor, additional eccentric characters, murder, and rout cakes. I like how the last Verity Lark book is worked into the story along with Bea and Damien’s quirky family and friends. I love the conversations between Bea and Damien as they continue to grow into their marriage and as Bea must overcome some of her insecurities of being a Duchess. A must read!

This was my first book from the series, it did made me go back and get all the other ones, and have preorder the next one. The book is entertaining and fun to read, it has developed well and it's easy to get hooked on the character. All of them are interesting in their own way, even Bea's aunt with her intricacies and her for tendencies to exaggerating and over worrying. Beatrice a older female, a spinster with no beauty attributes to recommend her, with a pendant for investigative murders, and a queen intelligence, ends up catching the attention of the catch of the season the Duke of Kesgrave, and in each book live different adventures. I really recommend them as a easy and fun read.....you could go through all the collection in a week and laugh with their antics.

Excellent writing. I fell in love with all the 11 books. The wit, humour, mystery and adorable Bea and Duke.
I hope there will be more books in these series. I want to know about the cherub and more mysteries that Bea will solve.

Looking forward to reading more stories in this series.

Enjoy Bea and her Duke. This was a little slow to start but as it toddled on the story unfolded.
Always enjoy the great banter and loving regard the two main characters have for each other.
Bea’s levelheaded approach to an investigation is always a pleasing observation.
Thank you Lynn for another enjoyable book — look forward to welcoming the cherub
