I think these cameras are the bee's knees

Love my Kasa cams. I have 3 spots, and 3 of the little more expensive models (The taller black one with magnetic circle base). Both work great. The spots nightvision is great, more than adaquit. The other model is ever so slightly better at night. Both provide a great picture day and night. I love that Kasa changed their monthly plans. It used to be like 4 or 7 bucks per camera (24 to 42 bucks a month for my 6 cameras). Now it is just 10 bucks total for all my cameras per month. Not bad! It better not change. The motion detection is great for the most part. It records a few minutes when movement is noticed, although sometimes if movement keeps going it will miss a few seconds or even longer (like if we are in a room moving for half an hour it will initiate at the start, but, miss some in between). That's ok with me. I have them mostly as security cameras. I want to be able to see if anyone is around, or, in my home. For that purpose it works and saves the files so I can see them. It also alerts whenever motion is detected (make sure to start the app anytime your phone is restarted. I leave it run in the background and it always alerts me. Battery doesn't seem effected at all which is nice too). If there is motion you can also tell the cameras to record continuously while you live view. I like that you can talk through them as well. It is fun to call my dog when I'm not home. He runs looking for me and is like, wth, lol. But, I think he has learned now that I am not there and just talking to him through some magic. Overall, these are not a perfect 24/7 recording option. But, they work great for my needs.

Good camera set

We installed these cameras in our summer house in Sweden to monitor what is going on in the cabin. Last year we had unwanted visitors. Swedish police told us where to put cameras. We run two Kasa Outdoor cameras where the motion detection is on plus some game cameras taking snapshots. Basically nobody can access the house without being recorded.

These cameras are placed indoors for temporary monitoring of the house. We switch these on from time to time and in periods when we know that "visitors" may be in the area. These periods have been told to us by the police. So we take extra attention.

Its very easy to place the cameras, even upside down. In the App you can flip-over the image.

What we like is the fact, that all cameras can be controlled by the Kasa App. This one works really nice on my Samsung Note 9.

TP-Link USA, where these camera serier is from, has in the fine print that up to three cameras are free for the cloud service, additional have a charge. This charge is not applied (August 2019) and runs for free.

Why have I purchased this set through Amazon USA? Well, in Europe these cameras are also available but as single packs only for a higher price.

Very Good Images and a snap to install

I was able to buy on sale for about $33 each x3, an excellent value. Installation was simple: (1) install the Kasa app (if you don’t already have it); (2) plug in the Spot camera using the 3 meter cable; (3) follow the Kasa app’s instructions to add the camera to the device list. Done! All installs went perfectly for me. I’ve attached day and night screen shots to give an idea of picture quality. Also, the pack included drywall anchors and screws to wall mount the cameras. I have TP-Link smart switches, smart plugs and 1 WiFi extender — all installed easily and are functioning perfectly. (Not a paid reviewer.)

Great picture, two-way sound, night vision

These are nice WiFi cameras. The response is lightning-fast.

The Kasa Smart app makes set-up and use very easy. If you cannot get them to connect right away, check the troubleshooting on the TP-Link/Kasa website for assistance. Once a connection is made, the devices will perform a firmware update (that's a very good sign for TP-Link). You can set up multiple schedules so that the cameras turn on and off automatically, which is nice when you're away. I have not played with the sound much, but you can hear what is in the room and speak to the room through the camera from the Kasa Smart app. It's a push-to-talk set-up...sort of like a walkie-talkie.

Night vision works great too, but night vision of course does not offer as great a picture as normal color video.

Notifications are very fast. If a camera detects motion, I get a notification within seconds. This is dependent, of course, on networks and connections, but I'm impressed so far.

To prevent false detections, you can set up to 4 motion detection zones per camera. You can also set motion sensitivity and motion duration. One star off (for now) for false detections triggered by changes in lighting. If a lamp turns on or off, the camera detects this as motion and triggers a notification. I'm still tweaking the settings and will change my rating if I get it worked out.

Another interesting feature is that the Kasa Smart app, when used with a camera, allows for "smart actions". If the camera detects motion, it can be set to turn on a light or a smart switch. For example, if a camera in your garage detects motion, it could be set to turn on a light in your bedroom. Careful though...if the light being turned on is visible to the camera (or another camera), the change in light could trigger another camera event.

I don't use Alexa or Google Assistant so I cannot speak to those (literally and figuratively).

The cameras come with a free trial period of extended access to video recordings. I'm not sure yet if I will pay to continue, and I'm not exactly sure what I will have once the trial is over. I expect I'll have notifications and instant access to live views, but I think the period to see a recording is reduced to hours. I'll try to update this review when I know more.

-The Kasa Smart app still does not offer 2-factor authentication, at least not that I've seen. I really hope that TP-Link wakes up and adds 2FA to their environment. In these days of IOT device hacking (does that ring any doorbells?), I think all IOT systems should offer robust 2-factor authentication to protect the company and the customers. I use a separate IOT network that does not have access to my main network, so if these cameras get hacked about the only other devices someone could access are my TV, stereo, and lights. Bigger concerns here are changing settings and accessing video and audio. Since they are also on the segregated IOT network any hackers will regret their actions the first time they see me streaking through my living room because that's all they are going to get. Sorry for the visual!
