So, while i do believe the MSI Gaming X to be a strong card, virtually silent so far and not getting over 58°C in the short time i've had it and begun to play with it. Afterburner most recent update seems to work very well but not with the software that came with the gpu, a bit flakey but some is designed for all MSI meaning gaming x board too and be able to get all those leds color coordinated . not something i was aware of and not interested.
afterburner has been the only graphics card software i've used in many years with perfect results every time or , just about.
I am hoping the radeon drivers can stabilize my graphics needs. i barely notice any power upgrade with this RX480 coming from the 7950.benchmarks higher,of course, just not nearly what i expected , or hoped for. and not too much headroom from the 2000/1306 it comes out of the box sporting. i am not sure how much,if any, is related to wattman tuning conflicts but i only got up a tiny bit and no real visible improvements, a slight boost on paper is the best for me.
i really cant get the solid testing baseline I was looking for in order to really go through a good test of the power of this. i know its in there, just not able to squeeze anything out, or i dont think so. I have to rate it well because it has been able to do everything i need and it is smooth, quite as can be and not overheating .
UPDATE
Okay after spending sometime with this card, I ran into one major issue, overheating. As you might have read elsewhere, this card gets very hot, very fast. It quickly goes to 80-84 degrees, and if you don't have good airflow in your case, the card will overheat and cause a black screen crash, forcing you to hard reset the PC. I have a cheap old case I've been using for a very long time. The card's limit is 90 degrees. The problem is in the design that MSI has done. The default cooling method has the fans on the card not spinning while idle, and the fans turn one once the card goes over 60 degrees. The problem is, because the card gets hot fast, the fans don't spin fast enough to cool the heat. It doesn't even spin at 100 percent unless its about to crash. Not good.
Fortunately there is a fix, I downloaded MSI Afterburner program. It's completely free and widely used. I used this program to create a custom fan profile to manual adjust the cooling method. I have the fans always spinning at 40 percent while idle, which you hardly hear, and the fans spin at 100 percent once it goes over 60 degrees. The result is idle temps at 30-35 and load temps at 65-70, and 75 at most. So my black screen crashes have stopped. Was thinking about taking a star away for the poor cooling design, but the benefits from the card are still great, so I'll keep it at 5 stars... for now.
Fantastic. Blazing fast, hammers through every game that I throw at it with Ultra graphic settings, does not struggle to deliver 60+FPS. .
Heat management is dealt with efficiently with 2 large bladed fans. Power usage is less than I expected as well.
Most people wouldn't worry about the outward appearance or aesthetics of this type of hardware but MSI always did make very "sharp" looking video cards.

Pay attention to the connection types, 2 x HDMI, 2x Display Port and 1 DVI-D Dual Link.
Although I'd recommend using HDMI or the Display Port, your monitor may not have either so if you plan on using the DVI port, your older DVI adapters/cables may not work! Make sure you order or already have a DVI-D Dual Link.

Pros:
Power to plow through any GPU intensive game.
8Gb GDDR5
Quiet considering the size of the 2 large fans.
Very nice outward appearance.
Power requirement was less than I expected.
Cons:
Where I do so very much enjoy the physical appearance of this card, I am very slightly put off by the inability to control the LED's. They are constantly on. This is only a very slight annoyance, but I felt I should mention it.
Also:
The packaging was TOP SHELF. Absolutely zero bloat, only what is required and the box is sharp. In the end that doesn't really matter but it sure is nice.
