The pixelbook itself works fine, but the charging cable was broken when it arrived
While setting up my Pixelbook, I tried to charge it (as the instruction says) with the power adapter and type-c cable came with the box. Then I found it wasn't charged. The charging LED was not illuminated and the battery icon didn't change. After few trials, I realized the charging cable was broken already. (I used my own type-c cable, then it works.) I checked the dysfunctional cable. It looked different from the type-c cable I already have (for my Pixel phone). A USB type-C supposes to have 24 pins, however the one I get was missing lots of pins (on both sides). It's really difficult to understand how could this happen to a new product. Kind of disappointed.

Received last this device last week and have been using it for the last several days. Here are my impressions so far.
    - Build quality is great - it's a beautiful device - very light and easy to use as a tablet
    - Screen is bright and colors are true but not overly saturated
    - Keyboard is one of the best that I've used on a laptop - MacOS or Windows
    - Trackpad is excellent - close to a MacBook and better than any Windows device that I've used
    - Pen is very good - latency is not an issue for apps that have been optimized for the new pen. Unfortunately no where to store the pen but Google is making a optional clip.
    - Battery seems to last for about 6-7 hours

So far I love this device - it's a joy to use. Won't completely replace a traditional laptop for everything but is very close.

Within 25 days of purchase (LUCKILY not over 30) the trackpad stopped working completely. Upon googling the issue I found other users with the exact same problem and timing (i.e. about 30 days after purchase). A powerwash does not fix it, upon rebooting the trackpad still does not work. Additionally, 'instant tethering' is an absolute joke. Sometimes it doesnt find my phone at all unless I reboot both. And then often there is a substantial delay before the phone would show up in the list to click on, much longer than going to my phone (a google pixel 2 XL) and clicking on the hotspot button. Furthermore, the connection disconnected so often that I began carrying a usb c -usb c cord to connect to my phones internet since that was so much more reliable. I also found that the VLC app would have a sound gap where the sound dropped out randomly for about half a second, causing words in the dialog of the tv/movie to be missed. Using MX player fixed this issue though, so this is a video player specific issue. The bezel is laughably huge, you will not find a larger bezel on any modern laptop anywhere, including all other chromebooks.

The build quality of the keyboard and trackpad are fantastic, better than the macbook 12" 2017 I had before. And the convertible aspect and superior Chrome OS are outstanding. Its really too bad about the trackpad, otherwise I would have loved to given this laptop 4 1/2 stars (minus for advertising instant tethering which is essentially non existent).

A final worrisome note, if you have this shipped to a non USA address when traveling like I did using Amazon global and it breaks after Amazon's return date, you are SOL and Google won't fix it! I got really lucky my touchpad broke in 28 days not 30.

Great computer. Fast, functional, keys have just the right amount of give, hinges are sturdy, looks and feels like quality. Makes a smooth transition from laptop to tablet mode. There's a small learning curve moving from Windows to Chrome OS so it took some getting used to! Almost everything is stored in the cloud, so this was a bit disconcerting at first but I'm coming around. Many programs can be opened both in the browser and in an app. Some of the apps could use some updating to be more friendly to Chrome OS (Instagram and my banking app come to mind but there are others), and my Brother multi-function printer no longer does multi-functions because it doesn't have compatible software, so it just prints. (Guess it's a good excuse to update my printer.)

Here is my biggest complaint: NO REAR CAMERA. When I bought it, it never occurred to me it wouldn't have a front and rear camera like other portables. I'm not a selfie kind of person, I don't make YouTube videos of myself, I use the rear camera for most things. Without the rear camera I can't make deposits to a banking app, I can't record my dog doing silly things and send it to my son, I can't sit on my porch and set the computer in place to record an osprey diving into our pond. Yes, I have a smartphone so will have to make do. But the tablet I had before the Pixelbook had both cameras, dammit. I really, really miss the rear camera. That's the main reason I can't bring myself to give it 5 stars.

I decided for 2 weeks whether I should get a laptop or a chromebook. I have a pretty good desktop at home and a fairy old (5 years) laptop that has begun to slow down. I was researching between the 'Pixelbook', 'ASUS c302', and the 'Samsung Chromebook Pro'. At first I really wanted the Samsung because I have so many samsung appliances in my house, so that decision was very bias, I kept trying to find reasons to make the Samsung more superior. I'd look at reviews and usually its the ASUS on top. I wouldn't agree with it and I've look for more reviews until I see that the Samsung was at #1. There are only small occasions where the pixel book topped, but on most occasions, the Pixelbook was rated #3-#5. In all my research, the ASUS was the best option for the price and quality. It made the most sense. Chromebooks all operate about the same. Serious hardware is not really needed for operating chromebooks. Coming into 2018, I've decided to lessen my shopping sprees, so that decision did effect my decision to buy the pixelbook. I opted for the best option available at the end of 2017.

So decided to get the overpriced Pixelbook. But, in comparison to the other options, which I tested in electronics stores, the Pixelbook had the better keyboard, the better monitor (4:3), and the better speakers. As for the touchscreen I've read reviews of other chromebooks where the touchscreens tends to go bad after a while. I did not see any reviews in regard to the Pixelbooks touchscreen going bad, but then again, this chromebook if very new. It hasn't been out long enough for it to get to that stage. In conclusion, I did spend a about $800 more to get a device that will probably perform about the same as the next best chromebook, ASUS 302 in my opinion. But in comparison to the top 3 that I had chosen (including my bias towards Samsung) I paid for a product that IMO had the better keyboard, monitor, speaker, and touchscreen. I'm banking on its longevity, and I hope i'm right on that.

I'm glad I got a chromebook as opposed to a laptop. I can't get any viruses - everything loads up almost instantly - All i ever do on my PC is watch Netflix, surf social media, Youtube, 'legally' basketball games and TV/Movies, the list goes on. Only difference is I can't play games, but that's what a desktop/console is for. Not a portable computer. Chromebook does everything faster and is more secure. It's super light as well.

If you are looking for a chromebook, I really would recommend the ASUS 302 if you have a budget. If not, the pixelbook is your next best bet. There is one downside to this, not counting the price, the area right above the keyboard can get pretty warm at times. This happened when I had Netflix, Youtube, Amazon Music, and Google Chrome all opened at the same time in background. This usually happens when I'm watching a movie, and I get side tracked like, 'Oh, i forgot about that actor/actress', *opens chrome* *pulls up IMDB*, 'oh yeah, he/she was in that film' *opens youtube and watches clips*, 'Damn, what song is that? *Opens Music app/or go back on Youtube* and so on... I know I'm not the only one that does that... I hope. Anyways, even though it heats up, everything thing still performs at top speed, BAM

Sad thing is, I was hoping for the i7 to be released so I can buy that instead of the i5 (really not necessary though. chromebooks can operate fine on i3).

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Machine for Home and Work
Reviewed in Canada on January 16, 2019
I bought this Pixelbook mainly for running my small business. And for about 90% of the tasks, it works really great. The computer is stable, light-weight, sturdy, and flexible.

Like most Chromebooks, expect to spend a lot of your time in the browser using web applications. This model, the 256GB storage version, has a healthy amount of internal storage for when you need to store a file offline. In addition, the ability to use Android Apps from the Google Play Store is simply the best. Whether it's games or apps, you can run it with ease with the power of this computer.

Designed by Google themselves, the Pixelbook spares no expense on quality. If you don't need the power or versatility, then go for a cheaper Chromebook. But if you want the best, most stable, and a well-integrated system (with the Google Eco-System) like I did... This is the machine for you.

You can expect to get about 8 hours worth of use on a full battery charge. It charges really fast. And also does a good job of not running the battery down when it's asleep. Waking it up takes less than a second. So it's always ready to go the moment you are. Just blazing fast all around.

Finally, let's talk about a few of the negatives. Of which there aren't many. The file management software is weak. It really wasn't built for file management outside of Google Drive. To this date, I cannot access my own NAS device via my office network. At least, not natively like you would with a Windows-based File Manager. This literally is the only thing keeping it from completely replacing my Windows-based desktop for work purposes.

Occasionally, I get a strange "popping" sound when I run an Android game. Even if the computer is muted. Usually if I exit the game, and let the computer sleep for a few minutes, everything is fine again.

That's it. If you want the power, no software bloat, and perfect Google Eco-System integration - Buy this machine. You won't regret it.

I just need to get used to it and know all the functions as I did not own any Android device, always been an Apple fan, thought of trying something new. I'm very happy with my Pixelbook. Very Quick start up - a BIG PLUS. keypad soft to the fingers - love it! The reason I bought this is that I've been using Google for my files and pixelbook caters specifically for that. No more updates from Microsoft which really annoys me every time for all the things I need to do after each update.
