I used the forementioned product for about two months before returning it to Costco in a ziploc bag for a refund. The good: The only way I can think of praising the NuTone Knock is to compare it to the Ring doorbell. It DOESN’T require you to remove and charge it once a month (it’s powered by the house doorbell transformer and doesn’t require charging). It DOESN’T randomly start ringing the doorbell in perpetuity, requiring the unit to be removed from the wall outside (this happened twice, once at 11:30 pm). It DOESN’T stop monitoring for several days, only to require removal and reset to get working again. It DOESN'T take 20-30 seconds to activate after someone comes to the door, only to see the person walking away from the door. What you get is a system that works flawlessly when connected to an already existing house doorbell system. When someone comes to the door I get a notification almost instantly on my smartphone, which then gives me the option of seeing who is at the door through the live camera feed. I can also activate the intercom remotely and have a two-way conversation. All of this works flawlessly with either my iphone or an ipad mini that I have set up in the hall dedicated to house functions such as this. It also has a “do not disturb” function that mutes the doorbell for a set length of time. Given that I work at night sometimes and sleep during the day this is a really cool feature.
Downsides: it will only work with the old-school two-tone doorbells, or apparently a proprietary doorbell that NuTone sells. This is due to the fact that it requires pass-through voltage from the doorbell transformer. Digital jingle doorbells don’t allow this. App requires iOS 10 or higher, so my old 1st gen ipad mini previously dedicated to this no longer works.
Summary: The price point of the NuTone Knock is about the same that “other” doorbell but is a much more solid product. Since the system is powered from the house doorbell power source it is virtually maintenance free. Presently the app works well. I could see this becoming an issue in the future if NuTone decides to stop supporting it. But that is an issue with just about anything that interfaces with a computer these days.
UPDATE 11/29/2019: After 1-1/2 years this doorbell completely stopped working. No attempts tonshut it down and restart it helped. I didn’t bother attempting to contact Nutone because the 12 month warranty expired. But it was obvious long before this unit gave up the ghost that Nutone had given up on this product, which is why I have changed my rating from 5 stars to 1 star. Online assistance consists of one pdf file. Phone technical support directs you to leave a voicemail in which they will never respond. I have since gone to a SimpliSafe video doorbell. I’ve had their alarm system for several years now and the system has worked flawlessly. So far the video doorbell has worked well too, with a higher resolution picture, better night vision and the ability to access with multiple devices, including a windows laptop (the Knock only worked with ios or Android devices). We’ll see how this one works out. In this day of planned obsolescence, who knows?

We still aren't 100% certain how we feel about the product. We like everything that everyone else likes, inexpensive monthly fee, DND feature, 2 way voice, etc. However, when looking at ring views on friends camera feeds I'm almost jealous, UNTIL I recall the previously mentioned charging issues. It always seems likes there is a tradeoff somewhere. We are content for now, and to our knowledge have only missed one exit, and that was an google fiber failure, NOT a nutone failure. We got a very good deal on this, if the video quality could only be as good as the ring, I would give it a 4, or even a 5. Make no mistake though, it is NOT worth above $125. If you've paid that, you've paid too much my friend. Best wishes.

I had this installed for a year. I bought the Nutone because of have an older house that came with a cool vintage Nutone chime. First, this product is a real pain to set up. Second, it does NOT work with existing chimes. It's powered by the existing doorbell wiring but will not trigger the chime. You need to purchase a wifi chime. I did both and it worked fine until Winter. Every time it gets below freezing outside, it disconnects from the wifi. Then you need to go through all the initial setup steps again. During winter I had to do this 3-4 time per week. I uninstalled and put in a wired Ring. The Ring has easier setup, works with the mechanical chime and I've had it installed for three years now with no issue, I'm writing this review now because I friend of mine was considering one of these for the same reason I initially bought it. Buy a different product. This is a huge disappointment.
