I have yet to purchase an Anker product that has not been anything but exceptional. That being said, I've had a multitude of charging banks from other manufacturers that let me down; but not this one! It is exceptional :) I travel frequently and like to do so as light as possible. I have a Google Pixel Phone and Pixel C tablet; and also an iPhone 8+ and iPad Pro 12.9 (2nd gen) and Apple watch, and lastly a Nintendo switch. This battery pack gives me the boost I need very quickly. It charges the iPad much faster (up to 80%, then charging is slowed on purpose for a variety of reasons that I will not go into here). I could give you statistics and measurements, but other reviewers have already delved into their technical observations of the unit, which is great, but some people might not understand how that information would translate into their day to day use.
After fully charging the battery pack (all leds turn off when fully charged), I decided to see how long I could rely on only the PowerCore 20000 PD instead of plugging any of the above mentioned devices into a wall outlet or any other power source. Since this is already a wordy review, from here I'll try to summarize. I actively use all of the above mentioned devices daily, and continued to use them as normal. When my Nintendo switch was down to about 20%, I plugged it in, got a full charge, and I estimate that I play daily on battery approximately 3-4 hours a day. I was suspicious that the LEDs on the PowerCore were all lit after fully charging that device. Pixel Tablet, I charged from 15% to ~ 60% which was just the little boost that I needed, and I started to wonder if the LEDs were accurate, as they were all still lit. Charged my iPhone from 30% to 100%; Finally, the first LED disappeared. Later I charged my iPad from 20% to ~%99 percent (using an apple USB C to lightening PD cable) which consumed another LED. I charged my Android phone (Pixel XL) from ~15% to 100%, and the PowerCore was still ready for more. When my apple watch got low on battery (next day) I charged it from 5% to 100%. In all, I was able to keep all devices comfortably charged for 3 days (this phase I tried to avoid charging each device to 100%, because my intended usage is to just get that little quick "boost" on the go when needed). Next phase, I recharged the power bank (which was surprisingly fast, about 4 hours) and waited until my other devices fully discharged and shut down automatically before connecting them to the power bank. Also, after depleting their battery (normal usage, not by purposely leaving screen on all the time or whatever) I would completely charge to 100%. For the phones and watch, flawless and fast charging with minimal impact on the PowerCore. The iPad, on the other hand, charged fairly quickly to 80%, and it's journey to full capacity had a noticeable drain on the battery pack, but I do not find this to be surprising. After this, I charged the switch, which left me with one LED left. Instead of jumping straight to the Pixel C android tablet, I chose instead to charge my Bose QC20 noise cancelling earbuds, and also my Bose QC35 head phones, and was able to fully charge both. When the Pixel C finally powered down, the powercore was able to charge it to about 12% before that last LED disappeared.
I don't think the average person runs around daily with this many devices, I do, unfortunately (work/personal situation), and I approximate that for phase 2 testing, I could have gone 1.5 days without the need for a wall outlet. Also, it has eliminated the need to carry around various cables/wall chargers and fits nicely in my bag.
Verdict: All of my co-workers and some of my friends are tired of me talking about my battery pack. So that's kind of a negative, but it's not necessarily Ankers fault that I've been so impressed with this, but it also kind of is their fault.. I didn't expect to be so impressed with such an item. When I grudgingly clicked to purchase an $80 battery pack I had preemptive buyers remorse (even though I have had good experience with Anker products previously).. because there are much more affordable battery packs on the market. I was hoping that this would be a terrible purchase, and looked forward to complaining about anything especially the price. Unfortunately, after using it almost every day since I got it, I feel like it was money well spent. Also, if you own any other Anker product, and have had to reach out to customer support, then you already know they will bend over backwards for their customers.
I did have a problem with the unit about 12 months in, it stopped recharging itself. Since it came with an 18 Month warranty, I just filled a form online and the next day they gave me a prepaid shipping label. I Shipped it in and 5 days later I have a new battery charger at my door. Thanks, Anker!
I would (and do) recommend Anker to anyone! Great Product Great Service!
ORIGINAL (4/5): I'm a huge fan of Anker's chargers, power banks, and cables. So when I decided to get a USB-C PD compatible bank for my Nintendo Switch, this was my first choice. It charges the Switch just fine using the included USB-C. However, there is one criticism I need to make, though I don't know if it's truly Anker's fault. It's about the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. I can charge it using the USB-C port on the bank with the included cable, however the PowerIQ port isn't able to charge the controller using the USB-A to C cable included with the controller. With only a single USB-A port on the power bank, this would have been a perfect choice to charge both the Switch and its controller at the same time. I find the lack of compatibility in this case odd because I saw have a 2nd Gen Astro E5 by Anker and its PowerIQ ports can charge the controller just fine using a USB-A 2.0 to USB-C cable, or even a Micro USB cable with a USB-C adapter on it (also by Anker). Why does an older (by 3-4 years) Anker power bank charge the controller while the Powercore Speed PD does not? Here's another quirk - if I try to charge the controller using the Astro E5 with a chunkier USB-A 3.0 to C cable (again, by Anker), it won't charge. Finally, I have tried several Qualcomm QC 2/3 ports across brands, devices, and cables, and they all charge the controller. However, if I try to use any other brand's "smart" ports, they won't work. Only Anker PowerIQ has had a chance to charge the controller. This leads me to believe that the controller itself may be very picky, but also I feel like it's a common enough device to be tested by Anker for compatibility with PowerIQ on its range of power banks (ESPECIALLY the Speed PD) if they're going to put "Nintendo Switch" in the title. All that said, the Pro Controller lasts so long on battery I don't foresee an issue charging it while I'm using my Switch.
