Just wish there was a UI for tracking uploads

Love being able to mount my OneDrive in the Finder, as I keep a lot of data there that isn’t on my SSD. The UI integrates seamessly with the Finder, and is simple and self-explanatory.

The one thing sorely missing is the ability to monitor your uploads. The Menu Bar dropdown says when there’s a transfer going, and how many files remain, and the Finder integration shows an icon indicating the upload of a file in progress, but NOWHERE is is possible to see how far along the transfer is. If you’re uploading a 250MB file, it’s impossible to tell if you’re 5MB or 200MB in, and as such, it’s impossible to even guess how much longer the transfer will taken. This is a major oversight on the part of the developer.

Fix this problem, my review becomes 5 stars. (Having said that, I’m using the free version and if I ever needed the paid features, I’d probably just get by with HTTPS and FTP transfers, since the price is higher than I’d like — especially for subscription ware.)

Thank you for posting your feedback. I would like to inform you that the "progress bar" feature will be added in further updates of CloudMounter software.

Does exactly as it says

Cloud Mounter does exactly as it says: mounts cloud storage as a local drive.

OneDrive is fantastic if you have an Office subscription, but keeping files synced chews up valuable SSD space. By moving files to a cloud-only folder, I get to use the 1TB of OneDrive and keep my computer relatively free.

One thing to keep in mind: files are kept in a temporary cache whilst they are being uploaded. I didn’t know this. All I saw was the available storage plummit when I dropped a huge directory from an external drive to the cloud drive. Now I know this, I’m scheduling my dumps a bit more sanely.

Fantastic application, well worth the money.

Dear developers: It would be great if there was a monitor utility so I could see the files being transferred and how that is progressing, and see the cache usage. Yes, I know that I can get all of that from the menu, but I’d like to see a progress bar as to how the transfer is going when I do the huge data dumps.

Thank you for your feedback and your thorough commentaries. I will pass it to our developers, so they will consider adding a more detailed progress bar in future updates of the app.

Great Idea, Poor Execution.

As someone who does server-work across many servers, the mountable drives are a God-send. That said, at $10/qtr, CloudMounter is far from "great". Just to mention a few:

- The time between small file-changes and file-upload is atrocious. It may only be 5-10 seconds, but this adds up quickly. I won't event get into the actual transfer speeds..

- There is no progress provided whatsoever. No way to identify if something is "stuck" or encountering a permissions error.

- Making changes on the server are rarely reflected on clients; typically I am forced to unmount and re-mount to see the changes.

After contacting them about these (and other) issues, I was sent an article about how ftp works and how I must be doing it wrong. As someone whos worked with servers for 20 years, that was pretty insulting. FTP is reasonably quick, somehow CloudMounter's implementation of it is slow.

All in all, there is no alternative, and I'm thankful it exists. But truth be told, in its current state, if ever there comes an alternative, I'll drop CloudMounter in a heartbeat. Hell, given nothing changes, I might create one myself, just out of spite.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for leaving such a thorough review. The data is updated from the connected server within the standard timeout period - 30-60 seconds. Unfortunately, it cannot be reduced. The only way to check the status of your uploads is to open the mounted drives in Finder (there you can find special icons next to the files).
https://www.eltima.com/wiki/knowledge-base/cloudmounter/status-icons.html. Once you click on any folder or file in the list, the list will be automatically refreshed. Also, switching between the drives will result in the list refreshing.
We'd also like to assure you that our developers are constantly working on the app improvements. Thank you for your time for sharing your experience.
