    Product Description

Tripp Lite 10 Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip, 8ft Cord, Tel/DSL Protection, RJ11, 150,000 Insurance (TLP1008TEL).

    Amazon.com

Tripp Lite's 10-outlet Protect It! surge suppressor (model TLP1008TEL) provides economical AC surge suppression for workstations, PCs, telecom systems, home electronics, and other sensitive equipment. The TLP1008TEL offers 10 outlets, an eight-foot cord with a space-saving right-angle plug, and diagnostic LEDs confirm suppressor "protection present" (green) and "grounded" (red) status.

The unit has a surge-suppression rating of 2395 joules to shield equipment from line noise and even the strongest surges. One input and two output RJ-11 analog phone jacks prevent surges from damaging your modem/fax/phone equipment.

Two rows of outlets include five widely spaced inputs for bulky "wall wart" transformers, which won't cover the remaining outlets. Built-in sliding outlet safety covers keep dust and fingers out of unused inputs.

Keyhole mounting tabs permit wall mounting, and the strip exceeds IEEE 587 category A&B specifications. The suppressor is covered by $150,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance (USA & Canada only) with a data-recovery warranty.

Did You Know That Surge Protectors Eventually Burn Out?

Did You Know That Surge Protectors Eventually Burn Out?
I was surprised to learn that surge protectors burn out. Yep, they can usually take a lot of little hits, but the hits add up and all of a sudden, the protection doesn't work anymore. So I decided to get new surge protectors as ours were pretty old. One of the comparison sites I checked out was thewirecutter(dot)com. As of 12/1/15, the Tripp-Lite Surge Protector TLP1008TEL is their highest recommended surge protector. To be upfront, thewirecutter tells you that it gets compensation when someone clicks on a seller link on their website (which I didn't do). They also highly recommend the AP SurgeArrest 3020J, the difference being that the SurgeArrest doesn't turn off when the surge protection no longer works. I guess it's a matter of whether you're going to see that a light went off or not. This is a BIG protector. It will not fit in a small spot. It has a keyhole slot to hang it on the wall, but I'm using it on the floor. I think the size is a plus, though, because this means that four of the grounded outlets are spread far enough apart to allow for transformers. The surge protector's plug is at a right angle, which is a plus if it's plugged in behind furniture. And the 8-foot cord lets you run it easily behind a long couch. If you've got young ones who might poke their fingers into things, each outlet has a safety cover which slides over it.There are three lights on one end of the protector, and they are bright. The big middle light, a orange-red oval kind is the on-off switch. This is good for energy savings. Don't just shut down your computer and TV at the end of the day. They are still using electricity in the background. So for energy savings, you need to actually unplug them. It is easy to cut the power to more than one machine at a time, when they are plugged into a surge protector like this. Instead of unplugging each machine, you just hit the on/off switch on the protector.A small red light on means that the outlet the surge protector is plugged into is grounded. A small green light means the surge suppressor is working. If this light goes out, you will supposedly be given a new Tripp-Lite, because it has a life-time guarantee.Happy Reader

    Style: Phone ProtectionVerified Purchase
My previous surge suppressor, an APC SurgeArrest Personal that I purchased about 10 years ago when CompUSA was still around allowed one too many power surges go through. It fried two of my PC's power supplies. I got the message and read up about how surge suppressors will only survive so many hits based off of the joules rating of the surge suppressor - the one I had before didn't even have a joules rating that was four digits.

I decided to do a quick Google search for an ideal surge suppressor to use that won't break the bank. When I made a trip to WalMart and Best Buy I saw Monster surge suppressors going for $40-$50 - that was a bit too much for me and had way too many extra features I didn't really want. Among the first Google searches done was from a reputable website called The Wire Cutter that lists its winners for "the best" of various surge suppressors out there. Previously, it was a Belkin PivotPlug BP112230-08, but this Tripp Lite beat it.

For price to performance + features, this is a solid bang for buck. I had no idea that surge suppressors, even if they have a light to "tell" you when the surge protection is no longer working can actually have defective surge suppression when they're extremely old. I assumed my Surge Arrest was still protecting my equipment but I was proven wrong the past couple months with a couple nasty power surges hitting my computer's power supply. The Tripp Lite 1008TEL, instead of letting power surges go through, will shut down when it runs out of protection, signaling for you to replace it with another. It's inconvenient, but it's better to be inconvenienced than to have your expensive equipment get fried.

As you can tell from the picture, it also features four nicely spaced ports for your oversized AC adapter plugs, and a very neat feature - sliding dust covers! Each outlet has a little lip you can push or pull and it will conveniently cover that port until you need to use it in the future. This is extremely useful if you live in a very dusty area or if you have a carpeted room that kicks up a lot of dust. You won't have to worry about dust infiltrating your surge suppressor the next time you need to plug in additional equipment.

The lights are very clear - one is the protected light to let you know your equipment is protected, and the other is the grounded light to let you know you're properly grounded (if that light's flickering or off check that outlet's wiring!). On top of that, the *switch itself* is lighted to let you know when the surge suppressor is on or off.

Also, this surge suppressor has a VERY long cord, perfect for those runs where your equipment is far away from an available power outlet. Keep this in mind when you buy new surge suppressors.

I'm not near enough a land line to test whether or not the phone protection is worth it, so I cannot give an opinion on that.

Seriously, instead of paying $5-$10 for those cheap no-name brand knockoffs and risk killing your equipment for it, just spend a few extra bucks on a quality made surge suppressor like this. It's an inexpensive *one time* investment that you don't have to buy again for several years and you'll have peace of mind knowing your equipment is protected better than the usual cheapo surge protectors/power strips out there. It's only $26 (at the time of writing), can't go wrong with that.

If you want to see the review from The Wire Cutter - just Google The Wire Cutter Best Surge Protector.

This surge protector is designed to be mounted on the wall, which I did, and I really like this feature. It's far easier to reach for connecting and disconnecting plugs than my previous battery backup/surge protector -- that one was so heavy that it had to to be set on the floor in a tight corner, very difficult and awkward to reach. Because I don't need a battery backup for the way I use my computer, this surge protector works quite well for me. A recent storm caused the electrical power to go out briefly and there was not even a blip on this unit or the computer. Also, I've installed a WD My Passport for Mac 1TB External Hard Drive, also purchased from amazon.com, which I'm highly pleased with. However, one feature of this Tripp Lite surge protector did cause a problem. The unit came with a connection for the internet cable, which I thought was necessary. However, after installing the unit and connecting the cable to it, I found the computer download speed was greatly reduced, to between 9 and 10 mbps. Because of this I had the internet service provider to come and check the connections. After thorough testing, the service agent found that the surge protector was causing the slower speed. He disconnected the cable from it and re-connected the cable directly to the modem for the computer. Bypassing the surge protector fully restored the higher internet download speed to well above 66 mbps and it still tests at that higher speed today. The internet service agent explained that their internet connection provides good surge protection without any need for an additional surge protector. To assure this protection continues, he tested and updated all equipment and connections between my computer and the main cable line. Now I'm very satisfied with the Tripp Lite protector and the computer's performance. The price for this unit was very reasonable and Tripp Lite's customer service, from all indications in my experience with them and the reviews I've read, is excellent. I highly recommend this surge protector for anyone who considers it appropriate for their specific needs.

First off, I am the type of person who will review a product for hours to make sure I am getting the best thing. The Tripp Lite 10 game up on multiple review sites and was in the top three (3) the majority of the time, so I gave it a shot.

I bought this for our new power recliner set. I was told by the furniture rep to get one of those "power batteries" that you have to charge every week and only get 200-500 reclines in one period. I was thinking that seemed like some work, and I would get upset if I forgot to recharge it, so I looked into the surge protector option. My wife and I got to experience the best feature right away!

I plugged everything in when I got home from work and it just so happens we had a storm which led to a brown out. Everything that was plugged into the surge protector, including a lamp, speaker, and reclining set, shut off! This is by far the best feature you could ask for, well besides the joules, because you know when the surge protector is working! I have two other surge protectors that I have no clue if they are in working order because all equipment stays on during surges. It is good to know when a product is working, or when it stops working, and the Tripp Lite has this. Basically, if the equipment you have plugged into the Tripp Lite stops working completely, you know it is no longer active, so it is time to replace it. With other products, they could stop working and you will have no idea which could lead to damage to said equipment should a surge occur.

The Tripp Lite also has very good spacing between the plug-ins. It does not have a swivel feature like some, but I feel that is unnecessary given the space Tripp Lite provides.

All around this is a great product for the joules and the auto shut-off feature. I will definitely be replacing my others with the Tripp lite.

    I highly recommend!

All around this is a great product for the joules and the auto shut-off feature. I will definitely be replacing my others with the Tripp lite.

    I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal para proteger tus equipos.
