How long will this UPS power my system when the power goes out?
Runtimes of any UPS will vary based on the amount of power required by your connected devices. The LCD Screen on the Back-UPS Pro model will display the estimated runtime based on the current power load of devices plugged into the UPS.
Will the UPS automatically switch off from the battery backup when power is restored?
Yes, when adequate power is restored to the UPS and is within the operating voltage range of the UPS, it will restart online operation.
Will this UPS provide continuous power in the case of a power outage?
This Back-UPS Pro instantly switches to battery power, when the main power goes out. The average transfer time is 8 milliseconds, and most connected devices do not experience any interruption in power.
Can I plug the UPS into an extension cord or does it have to be plugged into a wall?
In order for your UP to get the best power available, you should plug it directly into the wall receptacle. Plugging your UPS into a surge protection may cause the UPS to go on battery more often, even if the main power has not gone out.

The previous house owner was the worst electrician. The breakers get tripped if someone uses a hair dryer, and I cannot express how much this has saved my work.
The battery arrived fully charged. Just take out the battery, flip it upside down, re-insert. It's really neat to see how much power my devices are using. Half of the outlets are designed to draw power from the battery and provide uninterrupted power. The other half function as regular power outlets, but will not provide power if the unit is not plugged in to an outlet. The display shows a lot of information, including the estimated time remaining on the battery. My desktop computer draws a lot of power (200w-270w typically) and can stay powered for roughly half an hour at full battery. I have a 2nd unit powering my peripheral devices to maximize how long my computer can stay powered. After using these 2 units for about 3 weeks, this is one of the best purchases I've made in my life. It's saved me so much stress and has proven to be reliable in several power outs already. 10/10
First off, the 1500VA capacity offers a substantial amount of power backup, allowing me to keep my devices running smoothly during power outages. This has been a real lifesaver, especially during critical tasks or when I'm in the middle of important projects.
The built-in surge protection is a feature that gives me peace of mind. With the increasing number of power surges and voltage fluctuations, knowing that my devices are shielded from potential damage is invaluable. The Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) technology further stabilizes the voltage output, ensuring that my devices receive clean and consistent power.
What sets this APC UPS apart is the inclusion of dataline protection. This feature guards against unexpected surges that can travel through phone and Ethernet lines, offering comprehensive protection for both power and data connections. This is crucial for preserving the integrity of sensitive equipment and data.
Setup was surprisingly easy, and the LCD display provides essential information about power status, battery life, and more. The unit's compact design doesn't take up much space, making it convenient to place in any setup.
But what truly seals the deal for me is its seamless transition between power sources. The switch from regular power to battery backup is so smooth that I barely notice it. This uninterrupted power supply has proven its worth time and again, and it has saved me from potential data loss and downtime.
In conclusion, the APC UPS 1500VA UPS Battery Backup and Surge Protector, BX1500M Backup Battery Power Supply, AVR, Dataline Protection, is a rock-solid investment for anyone who relies on electronic devices for work or leisure. Its combination of power backup, surge protection, AVR technology, and dataline safeguarding make it an all-in-one solution that's worth every penny. It has become an essential component of my setup, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a reliable and comprehensive UPS solution.
One unit has 4 workstations connected that run as hosts. Those systems could last 30-60 min during an outage, which provides plenty of time to properly shut down hosted VMs. If you have large monitors connected you may have less than 20 minutes of battery life.

The original review follows:
I STRONGLY recommend you get the gift wrapping instead of going with standard shipping in the original box that shows what is inside.
The unit is about half the size of a PC tower and is it ever heavy. I'm impressed with the packaging being minimal, recyclable, and yet sturdy. The battery was easy to take out and turn around the right way to get the unit working. The sockets on the back are pretty close together and I'm only able to fit three plugs in the five sockets (computer equipment tends to have big plugs).
When the unit is on, the screen turns off with inactivity, but the three buttons remain illuminated. When the power went out, I couldn't figure out how to turn off the screen and it remained on using up a small amount of battery.
I had some issues with the unit, but the manufacturer is quick to respond (4 min from my first question) and worked me through some troubleshooting. I've been using this brand for years and I'm always impressed with their service.
But this brings us to the parts I don't like about it.
I live in a semi-rual part of Canada, and our island has more trees per km of electrical line than anywhere else in North America - or so the power company tells us every storm season. 6 months of the year is storm season and I felt it would be nice to have something to protect my PC better than a regular surge protector.
I had hoped the battery backup would even out the electrical current but it doesn't. Even at high sensitivity, the light plugged into the battery backup still flickers when the neighbour is welding or using heavy equipment. It also makes some noise that most people probably wouldn't hear but are obvious if I'm trying to sleep in the same room as the machine.
If I turn the unit off at night, it thunks when clicking back and forth to the battery backup due to inconsistent power from the mains... even though it is turned off, my computer is getting a flash of power when the unit makes this switch. I've given up keeping it off and used some black gaffer tape on the glowing buttons.
On the whole, I feel this isn't what I expected. I got it with the idea that it would even out the issues with my local power supply quality - but these same issues seem to bother the UPS just as much as they bother the computer and lights. What it does best is to be a battery backup and I'm glad I got the larger size because if the storm is strong enough to knock the power out for more than a few days, it's too cloudy to use my solar panel to charge my gadgets. This will do the trick nicely.
Was curious how much I could put into it and to see how long it would last and I can say I’m impressed. I have an 850w gold power source for my pc, a ps5 and a 43” Samsung tv because it’s hooked up to both systems. today we had a full on blackout instead of the usual blip.
I heard the beeping and went into to check and sure enough my comp is still running (also still mining) and my ps5 was still in standby too. Turned on the tv shut down the comp and even turned on the ps5 to get to a save point in zero dawn then shut it all down too.
Tested with all of that running at the same time it would give me 8 min which is great for little blips. Ps5 and tv only was like 52 and comp and pc wasn’t bad either. The screen that shows minutes and power load is great.
To the ppl who plugged it in and said it didn’t work probably didn’t read the giant yellow sticker that says shipped with battery disconnected. Super easy to setup too.
Very impressed. Will probably buy again to keep wifi etc running lol
In all our weather offices we had the APC units installed for our computer systems and they worked as good now as they did back then.
Only now, the units have a much smaller form and are half the weight to the units in the 1990s.
I have been running my APC 1500VA UPS Battery Backup now for over a month without any issues.
You simply cannot go wrong with APC backup power units like this model...
Example: Here in Montreal, we have had 4 power failures in 2023, one a mini ice storm with no power for 64 hours. The APC-UPS allowed me to continue working on my computer, write posts on twitter and even make phone calls with the modem wifi connection. Depending upon the power draw of your equipment, the built in battery pack will last from 20 to 30 minutes! So if you're working on a project, writing an email or using Photoshop, you can save your files and safely close down everything, without a single loss of any files.
The flip from local hydro power to your battery backup is instantaneous, so fast that my computer did not detect the sudden local power loss, though I noticed because all my lights went out! The audiovisual industry and corporate IT departments use these same APC-UPS units to protect their gear.
This is the second APC-UPS I have owned. I retired the first one purchased in 2007 after 15 years of use, because the replacement battery was 75% of the cost of buying a new one! This newest unit uses the latest technology and bonus - comes with a 3 year warranty. The massive and heavy internal sealed battery typically lasts from 3 to 5 years. At least that was my experience with my first APC-UPS. The second battery lasted 7 years!
My newest APS-UPS has run flawlessly since November 2022 even though, as I said, there have been four power failures. I highly recommend this product.
Cheers! Frederic in Montréal.
