With my new telework routine involving up to 8 hours of tele- and video conferencing daily, a comfortable, high quality headset was necessary. My previous ones became uncomfortable after about three hours and the sound quality wasn't great, especially in the MS Teams environment, where echoes and audio defects seem to be the norm.
Truth in advertising. I have owned many Sennheiser (over 10) products over the years, and I like the "Sennheiser sound." Some don't like it.
Having said that, these headphones are excellent. Great sound isolation and two forms of ANC. Extremely clear audio, and I've been told that my voice is extremely clear. I used them for nearly twelve hours straight (MS Teams, Cisco Jabber, a telemedicine appt, and phone) after the first time I charged them, and the indicator lights said I still had 3/5 charge. I wore the headphones the entire twelve hours, and my ears still felt great. None of the echo chamber "pressure" I get from Bose and Sony ANC headphones that is so fatiguing. And did I mention that the sound quality is fantastic? The headset paired quickly and easily with my phone and computer. I will say that connection is faster, easier, and more reliable using the dongle than using my computer's onboard bluetooth. No idea why, but it is. Range is good, not great. I can get up and head to the refrigerator (30-35 feet, two walls), and the headset remains connected with no garbled communication. Another 15 feet and into the garage, and it gets garbled and the connection drops (both phone and computer). The dongle has about a 5-10 foot longer effective range than my phone.
The "cons."
1. Price. I got mine through the Amazon Warehouse, and at the ~$140 I paid, they are a fantastic deal. Full MSRP of $400+...maybe not so much, but I don't think any headphones are worth that. For example, Sennheiser Orpheus headphones are otherworldly amazing, but $55,000? Look them up, and try them out if you are ever near the Soundscape. And if you buy them, please let me borrow them a lot. But are they worth it, to me...nope.
2. The headphone isolation is so good that you'd likely be screaming on conference calls without realizing it. Sennheiser solved that by piping your voice into the headset. It sounds a little computerized and is definitely strange, at first. It was very weird when I started using them, and I actually was determining whether I could live with it, or if the headphones were heading back into the shipping box. By the end of the first day, though, I didn't even notice it. You'll probably go through the same stages. Give your ears a chance to adjust. It won't be what you are used to, likely, but I'll bet the weirdness fades very quickly.
3. The mics are very sensitive. This is a huge pro, but it becomes a con when you are in active ANC modes and drop something on your desk, or scratch your leg. The sound piped into the headset seems vastly out of proportion. The people on the calls assure me that the sound isn't heard by them, but you will hear it...and loud. Still looking to find a setting to mute this. Nowhere near a deal-breaker for me, but it is a con.
Durability will have to be determined over time, but I have Sennheisers that are over a decade old, and one set that is 21 years old. They both still work great, and have only needed new earpads in my time of ownership. These seem to be built to the same quality standard, so I'm not expecting issues.
Bottom line: Best headphone purchase I've made in a very long time. No regrets.
I compared it to a set of Bose QC35, Plantronics Voyager 8200, and Sennheiser PXC550, which are in the same price range and with reportedly similar capabilities. The Sennheiser PXC550 and MB660 look identical but are not. If you are looking for a headset for use with Skype, Lync, or other telephony applications on a computer, focus on this unit (MB 660 MS) or the Plantronics set. The PXC550 and Bose sets are not so good at that.
I have been using it intermittently for about a month, in an office setting and while traveling by air.
Cons:
- Touchpad control with context-sensitive swipes, taps, and holds. It's easy to do something without meaning to (like hanging up the phone, redialing, turning on or off music, turning off noise-cancellation). Very annoying, and almost a deal-breaker right there. It took me several days to get used to them, after which they were fine
- There are some mechanical controls (a button and two mechanical slides) for less-frequently used functions. These controls are TINY. It's hard to even find them, much less see what they are set to.
Pros:
- Music sounds great. Clearer than the Bose or Plantronics sets. comparable to the other Sennheiser
- Noise cancelling is very good. Not quite as good as the Bose.
- On/off switch when you fold/unfold them. If they're folded they're off. Not folded, on. No worries about whether you left them on to run down the batteries.
- Bluetooth connection to phone works well, pairs easily, and has reasonably long range.
- USB/dongle connection to computer works well with Skype and Webex.
- Comfortable to wear. I have a large head and fairly large ears, and the earcups fit over nicely and seal well, and my ears don't overheat
- Comfortable to listen to. They don't make that pressurized feeling that Bose users sometimes report (I noticed it also)
- Battery life seems good. Sennheiser claims 30 Hrs. I've used mine for about 20 without a recharge. Recharges with a standard micro-USB cable.
- Feels solidly made. Hinges, slides, and swivels move smoothly, and feel like they could stand some aggressive use.
- Comes with a hardshell carrying case. The case is comparable in robustness to the Bose case, and is much nicer than what comes with the Plantronics or the other Sennheiser.
Other comments:
- Though it can connect to a computer via the computer's internal bluetooth, telecoms apps like Skype and Webex don't work well with this unit unless the connection is made through the (included) bluetooth/USB dongle.
- The noise cancelling is adjustable, in case you want to dial back the effect. The adjustment can only be made via a phone using the Sennheiser app.
- Can also be connected to phone or computer by USB cable or standard audio cable. Automatically turns off bluetooth when a cable is connected, which is good for use on airplanes.
- Standard audio cable works even when the battery has run down, so it can be used for listening to music in that situation. Probably would not work for phone calls. I have not tried either.
- The Sennheiser app can be used to adjust equalizer settings on other speakers that connect to your phone, such as the phone's internal speakers or a car's bluetooth. Each speaker is adjusted independently.
- There is an auto-pause feature that is supposed to pause your music when you take off the headset. I found that it stops and starts the music inconsistently. That feature can only be turned on or off using the app, and by default it is off.
- A much less expensive alternative is the Audio-technica ATH-ANC7B SVIS. It is a step below the Bose in sound cancelling and a step below the Sennheiser in sound quality, needs a wire for connections and doesn't have the fancy digital features. But at <1/2 the price it is quite serviceble.

These are pricey. So I debated pulling the trigger. They are worth every penny. The batteries last an exceptionally long time, allowing me to go nearly a week of full time work per charge, with noise cancellation enabled.
Sound is good, plenty of bass for music and enough passive noise attenuation for my liking.
One feature I like is that they function over USB as an audio interface. I’m bringing this up for a couple of reasons. The first is that they work while being recharged and I’ve been able to use them attached to a USB hub connected to both my laptop and my tablet. The second is that they work as a very low latency device when used this way, making them great for portable music production, relying on the conversion in the headphones which is adequate. Sure it’s not ideal, but if you like having options it’s nice to know these earphone work three ways: wireless, audio cable, & USB.
Adaptive / Active noise cancellation is both for the audio and microphone. I’ve been in very noisy environnements with callers unable to tell.
There’s also the ability to feed your own voice back through the headphones but in this case there’s a bit of lag and I’ve found myself occasionally distracted by the slight delay.
Oh, they’re exceptionally comfortable.
My biggest qualm is that they’re a bit prone to creaking and the plastic doesn’t feel like it will last but I could be wrong. Time will tell, though at this price I’d like a slightly higher build quality.
