Product Description
Nucleus is a family communication device that connects you with the people you love, whether they’re downstairs or across the country.
From the Manufacturer
Nucleus brings you closer: Voice Activated Communication
Make audio and video calls by simply saying ‘Alexa, ask Nucleus to call Kitchen
Nucleus on the go: Feel at home from anywhereInstantly connect to any Nucleus device in your home straight from our free mobile apps.
“This new smart video intercom can do everything Amazon's Echo devices do” - Business Insider
“The Nucleus Intercom is a good option if you want a simple way to communicate with the family in a larger home, or video chat with less technically savvy loved ones.” - PC Mag
“The Nucleus integration with Alexa works exactly the same way as with Amazon Echo-- except Nucleus has a touch screen. That's helpful when, as is sometimes the case, you ask Alexa to play music only to end up yelling at it when you want it to stop, or having to unplug Echo to shut it off. Nucleus solves that pesky problem by letting you shut off or change the music by clicking on the screen if Alexa doesn't hear you.” - Inc. Magazine
Nucleus connects to Alexa, Amazon's cloud-based voice service. Just ask Alexa to listen to your favorite music, hear the news and weather reports, connect your smart home devices and more. Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new features and skills. Too busy to make dinner between work and picking up the kids? Ask Alexa for your favorite take-out spot's phone number or even order a pizza from the Domino's skill. Together, Nucleus and Alexa make the home front a little easier to manage and a lot more fun.
Note: When active, get Alexa's attention by tapping the Alexa button. Nucleus does not currently support Spotify and Pandora with Alexa at this time. The Alexa Voice Service is available in the US only.

About the StartupHow did you come up with the idea for this product?
We’re building Nucleus for our families and families everywhere. Jonathan developed Nucleus to keep track of his kids around the house and to create a simpler way to stay in touch with his relatives near and far. We’ve since heard from customers that wish they could see their family members more often. ow, thanks to Nucleus, they can.
What makes your product special?
Nucleus enables you to spend more quality time with your family, no matter where they are. We’ve heard from families all over the world that use Nucleus to call their kids down to dinner, or check in on an elderly parent that lives alone. It was designed to let you tap one button and feel like you’re in the same room with the people you love, whether that room is upstairs or across the globe.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
The best part has to be the wonderful and amazing stories we’ve heard from customers. We’ve had customers buy Nucleus for an aging parent in a rehab facility; for a young child that lives in a different city than her father; and for plenty of families that just want a better home intercom to make their lives a little calmer and more sane.

The device itself was shipped well and packaged fine. The device looked and worked as if new. ...but thats where the trouble started! You have to download an app to your device of choice to use it. I downloaded it on my android phone and on my android tablet as well. The device was hooked up to my dads high speed internet, which streams live tv feeds with no problem, and we frequently skype with no problem. I just wanted something cheap that didnt rely on his computer being on, the app running, etc.
The app is a total joke of a failure! If it would connect at all, it would disconnect right away, over and over and over. I connected from my tablet, over dads network while I was there, back to the device at his house, fails. I connected on my phone, using the cellular network, going out over at&t network then back to dads network. Failed. I could try my apple tablet later, but seeing as how I would normally be using my phone, that seems pointless.
The device is old now, they (the manufacturer) have a new one out and are prolly scamming new people, because hey, if the couldnt be bothered to ever fix the original app so that it works, why work on future customer issues! Lol. Id buy a google or facebook model, but I dont want those crooks skimming data off everything I say, selling the info, and getting spammed everywhere I go online. They do it from what we type online, can you imagine what they can get from listening to you? Lol. Non-sales example, but still unasked for tracking; I'm logged into youtube on my phone, watching a certain type of tech videos. Later the next morning i turn on the tv and through my roku I start up the youtube app, that I have NEVER logged into mind you, and all of a sudden they are popping up the same tech videos in the 'suggested' tab, and I have NEVER watched those on this device before. Damn!
Well, there you go, rant for the day! Hehe.
First, I've been following the start up of this company online for the past year and think they are a good, solid company that will stand behind this product.
Second, set up was very, very easy. My husband had them mounted faster than I could get them programmed to our network/family (which took a few minutes due to updates). Both mounting, updates, and set up in our network was very fast and easy.
Third, intercoms are wonderfully helpful, in general, but this is better than normal. As expected, it instantly stopped me from having to yell across the house for the kids. The intercoms are very easy to use, even for our kids. Each room is set up to show a picture of the room, or it could be a picture of a person, making it very easy for the kids to identify which room they are calling. No more stickers on intercom extensions telling us which station it is and no more guessing which station we are trying to reach!!!! Additionally, we were all able to quickly link our phones to the system, making it easy for us to reach our kids (or check up on them) while we are out of the house. This has been so simple and easy, we plan to send one with a child studying abroad next semester so he will be able to feel at home while he's away.
Finally, this product did not come without a problem. They aren't perfect. One of our 12 units was defective. But, that's not really what mattered. What did matter was the fact that within hours of contacting the company about the problem I had received multiple contacts from them, including a phone call from the CEO to address the problem. (Seriously, if that isn't amazing customer service then I don't know what is!). This is a company that cares about its product and its customers!
Well worth the investment! We will be buying more units in the future once the addition to our house is complete!
Bought a 3 pack and installed two of the three to test. The first two installed were communicating well and did not seem to have any issues. Decided to buy a second set of 3 pack and installed two unites on the west coast (to communicate our 98 years old grandmother) and four others on the east coast at the primary residence. In between the east coast install and the west coast install there has been software updates. There are numerous connectivity issues. At first, there would no video connection but there is sound connection. So you can only hear and talk to but not see the other side. Than the units shows privacy setting is on while it is NOT on. Than the unites shows offline but it is NOTt. Each time a wrong status would show and we had to reboot the devices on both ends. Each time the device boots up another wrong status will pup up...its like playing Russian Roulette...never know which false status will pup up among the 6 units. Of the six units, there are a total of three wifi network for 6 units - 2 units on each. Spoke to customers service and told them the problems. Customers are very eager to call back and help but there is nothing they can do except to wait for updates. This product seemed like such a great idea and the units looked nice. When it works it woks well but working well has been less than 25% of the times which is extremely disappointing. May be these units are not meant to be installed on different wifi networks...but if you live in a three story house or town house wifi normally don't reach all three levels and wifi router is needed. No clue why they pushed this out so soon. Very disappointing.
