Some tips for setup!!

Some tips for setup!!
OK, so I'll keep the beginning short and to the point, then I'll get more into my thoughts thus far about the printer...To get your printer connected, first take note of the color of the light on the printer. If the light is SOLID BLUE:I believe this means the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, but must still be discovered by Alexa.  Say "Alexa, discover my printer" Disregard if Alexa says she didn't find any new devices. Open the Alexa app on your phone.  Go to the devices tab on the bottom, and look through the list.  If you see "Amazon Sticky Note Printer" in the list, then you're good to go!  Test printing by asking Alexa to print your to-do list or shopping list.If the light is SOLID ORANGE:The printer isn't yet connected to Wi-Fi.  From here, you need to first open the Google Play Store, or Apple App Store and search for Alexa.  Install any necessary update, or open the app if it's up-to-date.  Tap along the bottom, right where it says "More", then tap "Add a Device" on the top.  Scroll down a few pages until you find "Printer" and then select "Amazon Printer".  Follow the steps on-screen.Troubleshooting:If the light is SOLID BLUE but you can't get Alexa to discover it (i.e. doesn't show in the list of devices) then it's possible that your modem/router may be preventing communication.  Some devices/networks will block "broadcast" traffic to improve performance. If the light is SOLID ORANGE but you can't get the Alexa app to discover it, then you should try uninstalling the Alexa app on your phone and then reinstall it.  Then when you launch it again, make certain that you "Allow" any permissions that it requests.    Try to unplug the printer power then plug back in after 15 seconds, and try adding again. If you can't get the lights to go solid orange or blue, then you may need to reset the printer into pairing mode.  I believe this is done by holding down the action button until you get a setup printout.Hope this helps;  I'll try to revise based on comments! On to my experience:After I got the printer paired and working, it seems to be working nicely.  I have my "To-do" lists connected with Todoist in Alexa, so I can easily add things to my To-do list from my computer instead of having to verbally add everything.  You can do this in the Alexa app under More > Settings > Lists.  There are a handful of different To-do list providers also.    Anyhow, the resolution on the print looks pretty good (About 300dpi I would guess).    The notes themselves have a small sticky strip on both sides.  They adhere wonderfully to flat surfaces.  They hold pretty securely just using one side as well, to put on the edge of your monitor for instance.  I'll include a few photos to show the sticky back  as well as how the print itself looks on printed to-do lists.    All-in-all, I'm still evaluating to decide whether to keep this printer but it seems pretty handy! I'll try to add any additional comments or feedback that I come up with! Thanks for reading, and please click the button below if this was helpful!Like many of you, I was ready to pull an "Office Space" on this printer until I finally got it going.  Here are the steps that I went through in my quest:1. Plugged in the Amazon Printer2. A page printed that instructed me to say "Alexa, Discover my Printer"3. Tried pairing from Fire TV Cube using the "Alexa, Discover my Printer"4. Fire TV Cube wasn't able to find any devices.  5. Checked the Bluetooth menu on the Fire TV Cube's on-screen menu, and sure enough it didn't find the printer.6. Printer printed out a note that says "You printer hasn't connected to your Wi-Fi network".   It then instructs me to open the Alexa app, and go to More -> Add a Device -> Amazon Printer.7. Opened Alexa app, found that Amazon Printer is not available on the list or when searching.8. Checked App Store for updates, sure enough there was a recent update issued.9. Installed the app update for the Alexa iOS app.10. Opened the Alexa iOS app.11. Went to More > Add a Device  and now Printer is an option.12. Selected Printer, and Amazon is an option for the brand.13. Restarted the printer so it was back into the "Pairing" mode14. Alexa app returned an "Unknown Failure - We failed to receive a response from your device (-1: -1: -1: -1)15. Clicked "Try again" and realize that this document says that the LED must be Orange in order to connect Wi-Fi.16. Tried to ask Alexa to Discover my Printer again.17. After about 45 seconds, Alexa advises "I couldn't find any new Smart Home devices.."18. Decided to check the Alexa app to see if the printer was shown in my list of devices.19. Indeed it shows "Amazon Sticky Note Printer" in my list.   But the printer itself, nor Alexa, provided any indication that a connection had been established. Thanks for reading! 5.0 out of 5 stars Shopping lists and to-do lists apps are much more useful. Can print reminders. Love this printer.
Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2021
I just got this printer today, and it's possible some of the problems reported by other reviewers have been corrected in my printer. Set up was super simple. The printer prints 3 notes to tell you what to do. I have included pictures showing these note and numbered them in case they don't show in the correct sequence. Once you plug in the printer to an electrical outlet, you follow the instructions on the printed notes. Keep in mind, this printer will not connect to your phone. It must be connected to an Alexa device and is not compatible with Echo (1st Gen), Echo Dot (1st Gen), Echo Plus (1st Gen), Echo Dot Kids Edition, or Amazon Tap.

1) Connect to your home Wi-Fi network. The LED button on the printer will change from orange to solid blue once connected. This is automatic and takes a minute or so.
2) Once the LED light turns blue on the printer, you ask Alexa to discover your printer.
3) After the printer is connected to Alexa, you can print a test page of Alexa commands you can use for the printer. I put this list on the side of my refrigerator until we learn more about the printer commands.

As you can see from my pictures, the print quality isn't as sharp as printing on a LaserJet printer, but it's legible, and fine for our purposes. As a couple other reviewers mentioned, the print quality improved with an update that I may not have gotten yet and also with other paper rolls now offered on Amazon. I will update my review after I get the new paper rolls. This is a new product, and all of us that have Amazon devices know that update are done automatically and will, in time, improve the functionality of the devices. The same is true of this printer.

In my opinion, this printer is a wonderful add-on to Alexa devices that makes some of the apps much more useful. Previous to this printer, the Shopping List App wasn't of much value to us. Sure, we could add and remove items to our shopping list, but had to view the list on phone or other device. My husband does all of the shopping and isn't much of a techy. So, he wasn't about to use the Alexa app to check the shopping list when he was shopping. He used a handwritten shopping list and added items as I told him I needed things. He then had to rewrite the list omitting items he bought. Now I can add items to the shopping list when I am cooking and use the last of something. My husband can easily print the list before he goes shopping. When he get home, he can ask Alexa to show him the shopping list and remove items he has bought. This is so much easier, and it does eliminate the exercise of running into the kitchen to add items to the list before he forgets what we need.

Since we are both in our 70's, my husband has been writing notes to remember things he needs to do the next day. This means finding the paper and pen to write the notes. Now, he can simple say "Alexa, print a note to call the plumber.", and the note prints for him to put on the kitchen table as a reminder.

I also want to mention that these sticky notes are not quite the same as the sticky note pads some of us are used to that have a sticky part on one end. The back of the sticky note paper rolls is slightly sticky and will stick to anything if you rub your hand over the note. I put one of these showing available commands on my refrigerator as a reminder of commands, and it sticks fine without leaving any residue.

Overall, we are very happy with this printer and use it primarily to print a shopping list. Lazy as it may seem, I no longer have to remember to add things we run out of on a paper shopping list. I am looking forward to future updates and functionality.

UPDATE 07/15/22:
I have had this printer for about 5 months, and it suddenly stopped working. The printouts were nothing more than a couple of vertical lines of blotches. Since this is a thermal printer, I knew it wasn't a problem with lack of ink. So, I called Amazon support. The representative deemed the printer as broken and not fixable, and gave me a full credit of my purchase price without having to return the printer.

Rather than throw the printer out, I decided to try different thermal paper. The new rolls of paper were the correct width, but the roll was much too large to put in this printer. Tenacious as I am, I took the Amazon thermal paper off the roll and rolled the new paper onto it, making two equal rolls. These fit the printer. When I tested the printer with the new paper, it printed perfectly - even better than it ever did with the original paper. If your printer stops printing with the original paper, it would be a good idea to try a different brand thermal paper before throwing out the printer.

I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update the review if my opinion changes and also when I find more uses for this printer.
