They are well made, an unbeatable value when on sale, and straightforward to install (note that all TP-Link's Kasa switches require a neutral wire - depending on when your house was built and how the switch boxes were wired, you may or may not have a neutral available in your wall switch boxes).
These connect to the 2.4Ghz band of WiFi - note that these switches can end up out of range of your WiFi if you have your access point or router poorly positioned in your house and/or you have a substandard access point or router - I have no connectivity issues with an access point located on the ceiling of my first floor in the center of my 2 story home - be prepared to up your WiFi coverage if you're serious about having a smart home - I have a separate IoT VLAN defined on my router and provisioned to the 2.4 GHz band of my multiband AP to keep my IoT devices off of my home network. A single AP covers my 2700 SF house, for both the 2.4 GHz band IoT devices, and the 5 Ghz band human facing devices on my home network.
These switches are large, as are most smart switches - I've found they install easily in the modern plastic switch boxes in my renovated kitchen and family room addition, but can be a tight fit in the original steel switch boxes in the remainder of my 1963 vintage home - I have taken to replacing the original steel boxes with new "old work" plastic boxes, and will spec the extra deep "old work" boxes if the stud cavity allows for it - this solves the space issue, and again if serious about a smart home are some of the things you need to do to be on board.
These switches are "Decora" style and are activated by pushing the bottom of the plastic paddle for both on and off functions - while the ergonomics are a bit different than a standard "dumb" Decora switch, I like them, and honestly I use voice or routines to control the switches to the point where the physical switch interface is a non-issue.
In multi-gang box situations, I have taken to replacing any "dumb" toggle switches with corresponding "dumb" Decora paddle switches for those switches I don't need smart functionality in, in order to keep the look consistent. I have had no issues with the "yoke" depth of these TP-Link Kasa switches in terms of being able to install standard wallplates - I have replaced my old steel "Mulberry" plates with screwless plastic "Claro" branded Lutron wall plates for a nice clean consistent modern look - see photo. Steel plates are a no-no BTW with smart switches - they obstruct radio signals no matter what tech you are using - WiFi, Zigbee, Lutron ClearConnect etc.
I also use Wago lever style wire nuts for the end point connections for the wire leads coming off of these Kasa switches - they save some space and can also save some wear and tear on the house wiring rather than have to untwist pretwisted and wire nutted connections to make changes and/or additions in the future.
I have dozens of Alexa routines set up using these switches - the switches can be used to initiate an integration, unlike my Lutron Caseta switches, which can only be acted on by a routine, they themselves can't initiate a routine. These also integrate with Home Assistant.
These have been dead reliable for me in terms of connectivity and responsiveness. Most of the negative reviews are unwarranted IMO.

But, I used a ground for the neutral to the smart switch- works fine.. Added a 6" pig tail (a peice of white 14g id recommend out of 14/2awg) pretty much use ground on ground and ground w/ a 6" pigtail to N..
If you having issues, after its wired up, make sure your line and load are correct.. or it will no connect too wifi or work rite..
But i wired it up line and load..grounds too N and ground... had it powered up and manually working in minutes.. I used the TP app or w.e, since were installed I dont have alexa and dont care for google.. But for now im happy.. just the timer and phone app alone..
I can open app in my phone and set timers for it too come on, or shut off when I want. ie: on at 5:30am, off at 7:30 am, then set too come on when i get home about 7pm, and shut off at 10:30 pm.. on weekdays. for weekends i just have it set different..
Almost helps as and alarm too.. kinda wakes you up when it turns on and its 6am or w.e.. and also, helps my sleep schedule.. ill be laying there, and itll shut off and i know its 11pm or w.e...time too get some sleep.. And i can grab my phone and dim or turn off when im going too bed..
this would be great for kids.. just tell them when lights off its bedtime!! lol.. until they get up and physical switch it...
the switch itself has a cpl cool options too, like soft fade. or immediate off.. or slow fade on..
If it had siri connection, itd be the best ever.. BUT then again, i have a few that work with apple/sir, and they work well, but dont have the settings like these do.. unless you get a apple home thing.. but got no time for that.. I'm happy being able too set thee timers, or grab my phone and tap the app on or off..

FULL REVIEW
This is my 7th Kasa smart device and the first smart light switch I've purchased. As someone who is not very handy with household electrical, I found the guided installation instructions in the Kasa app absolutely incredible. The app walks you through every single step with total clarity - there were no instances where I had to guess or try to figure out what the app was asking me to do. Installation took somewhere between 30-40 minutes which included time that I spent running down to our circuit breaker. I was able to complete the installation by myself without any help.
Once the switch was installed, the Kasa app made getting the device linked to my wifi and smart home a breeze. It took maybe one minute to get everything linked up. The setup process was straightforward and easier than I expected.
The only oddity that I noticed was at the setup step for the calibration of the dimmer. During setup, you will be given a slider that will allow you to calibrate the dimmer levels based on the type of bulbs that you are using. The slider shows the lowest dimmer range for both incandescent and LED bulbs, however as I tried to use this, I noticed that my dimmable LED bulbs did not respond to anything but the largest changes on this scale. As I would change the minimum threshold for the dimmer (either up or down), there was no noticeable difference to the brightness of my bulbs. In practice, this doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the actual dimming functionality of the switch.
Also, it doesn't appear that you can control dimness using voice control with Google Home. To change the dimmer settings, you will still need to either control it from the actual switch itself or open the Kasa app on your phone.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this switch. It makes a nice, affordable upgrade and like my other Kasa smart home products is so easy to set up and use. 100% recommended.
