Product Description

Onkyo continues to be a hi-res trailblazer with its DP-X1 Digital Audio Player. Backed by two ESS Technology Sabre ES9018K2M DACs and two Sabre 9601K amps for balanced headphone output, the DP-X1 is the only DAP with such an advanced configuration, the result of which is unprecedented power and control. The DP-X1 also has two types of balanced drives: ACG and BTL, for greater stability and clean, crystal clear sound. The unit is also among the first to support the MQA format, an anticipated new standard that captures and preserves the original studio recording, and delivers it in a package small enough to stream. From a storage standpoint, the DP-X1 can expand to 432GBs, thanks to dual micro-SDXC card slots and can supply up to 16 hours of playback.

Dual DACs and AMPs for Stunning Control & Power

The DP-X1 has two amps and two digital/analog convertors which allow for extreme power and signal control. The double ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DACs and double ESS Sabre 9601K amps make balanced output possible via 2.5 mm output and micro-USB ports. The DP-X1 is the only player with such an advanced configuration, and the result is unprecedented power and control.

The DP-X1 also has two types of balanced drives: ACG and BTL, for greater stability and clean, crystal clear sound.

Balanced Drive Options

Balanced 2.5mm 4-pole output supports the more standard Balanced (BTL) drive as well as the more esoteric ACG (Active Control GND) drive.

ACG drive gives greater stability: increased S/N ratio; greater spatial dimensionality, and clean sound; greater deliniation for lower frequencies in hi-res audio, and overall robust and taut sound. BTL drive supplies increased power.

Power gains and increased sound separation associated with balanced output are repurposed to create increased stability for a clean signal and greater sound clarity, especially compared to unbalanced drive.

Hi-Res Heaven!

The DP-X1 was designed to support many audio formats. Maxing out at 11.2MHz DSD support, the DP-X1 also supports up to 384kHz/24-bit audio, with support for WAV, FLAC, ALAC, & AIFF.

With its 2.5mm 4-pole balanced output, 3.5mm 3-pole headphone jack, micro USB-B/OTG digital output, and wireless playback options, the DP-X1 offers plenty of ways to enjoy music.

In addition to streaming over Wi-Fi, aptX also makes high quality audio possible over Bluetooth.

Amazing Innovative Sound

MQA is not typical hi-res, a high bit rate or high sample rate audio. It is a completely new and different way of capturing, delivering and reproducing audio performances, and it preserves the magic of the original studio recording in a format that is still small enough to stream. Support for MQA format comes via a free update.

(Support for MQA format comes via a free update).

DSD Conversion

Turn on Real-Time DSD Conversion and the DP-X1 converts music files such as MP3, WAV, and FLAC into DSD-quality audio. Use of oversampling and pushing bit quantization outside the audible spectrum allows for very clear signals. Everything sounds great!

Massive Storage Capacity

With 32GB of internal storage and dual micro-SDXC card slots, storage can be expanded to 432GB. With up to 16 hours of playback, you can carry an expansive library of hi-res audio and listen for extended periods of time.

(16 hour playback based on 96kHz/24-bit unbalanced output).

With up to 16,384 discrete bands to select from and the ability to save up to 1,000 EQ profiles, the linear-phase finite impulse response (FIR) equalizer offers high definition equalization with zero loss in audio quality.

Easy to Use Android Interface

The DP-X1 has a super flexible and intuitive Android platform, and with its fast quad core, it can support heavy processing and many high function apps. Terrible Headphone Jack
Bought my DP-X1 on November 8, 2016 and the first issue within the first two months was the battery not holding full charge (it says its 100% but it drains within day), so I bought an Anker charger which solved the battery charging issue. After a few months of using the DP-X1 with a headphone, the 3.5 phone jack became loose, google it and found a lot of other people had complained regarding poor quality on the jack, and so I put some glue on the rim of the jack to make it sturdy, that helped a lot.Fast forward to May, 2021 and all of a sudden, the 3.5 phone jack is NOT working properly anymore, the audio is only one channel and NO bass, just treble. For reference, (refer to photos attached with 3.5-3.5mm jack that are permanently put in placed) after my first issue with the jack, I had made it to a point NOT to remove ON-OFF the phone jack to PRESERVE it from wear and tear and yet here I am with the phone jack failing.I called the Amazon Seller who sold me the device which wonderfully replied to me within 2 hours - but sadly, they dont service the unit.I called ONKYO USA, but they DONT service the unit either (WOW, a $800 unit, top of the line DAC) and they dont offer customer service and instead told me to contact ONKYO JAPAN thru email - its been a week already and no reply and as I try to find ways to fix this unit, googling had shown multiple forum posts that ONKYO dont really care about their customers and that the DP-X1 is one of those unit that clients dont hear back from ONKYO customer service. As it turns out, the phone jack is soldered to the board and the failure point seems to be the both the 3.5m and 2.5mm balance output jacks - people had complained that the failure rate of these are very HIGH - which is SAD for a $800 unit.SO IM writing this review to inform potential buyers of ONKYO products, especially high end units - if you think you're paying high price for quality - there's NO QUALITY at ALL and definitely the CUSTOMER SERVICE is non existent.I DO LOVE THE AUDIO QUALITY with the EQUALIZER though - but that no good at the moment since the audio jacks are not working.
