Alexa

Can I play music to other Alexa devices or my Everywhere group with Safe & Sound?

Not at this time. Alexa and Safe & Sounds keep getting smarter over time, so you can look forward to more audio capabilities in the future.

Does the Onelink Safe & Sound require rewiring or professional installation?

The Onelink Safe & Sound is meant for DIY installation. Just remove your current alarm and bracket, and install Safe & Sound. Easy adapter plugs are included, so you don't have to rewire to install the alarm.

Once the Safe & Sound unit is wired into my ceiling, what are the next steps?

Once the alarm is installed, the unit will walk you through setup and Alexa integration with Onelink Home app. If you have more than one Safe & Sound, set each one up though the app as you install the units, before moving on to the next one.

How does the Safe & Sound nightlight feature work?

When set on autobrightness, the LED lights glow to light your route in the dark, and get brighter in the day, to ensure visibility in an emergency. You can turn off autobrightness, or adjust brightness and usage through the Onelink app.

Do the LED lights on Safe & Sound also indicate power?

The LED lights also indicate AC power is being received. When you disable the nighlight, 2 LEDs will glow green on the Onelink alarm, letting you know that you have AC power. If the LED is off, your alarm is running with battery backup.

The light is ALWAYS ON!
2 Stars
The light is ALWAYS ON!
I like that this device is easily integrated into HomeKit, which means I can adjust the light and disable alarms right from my Apple Watch if the oven happens to set it off while cooking in the kitchen. For the price, I wasn't expecting much as far as sound quality goes, but it is advertised as a "Premium Home Speaker" and that is NOT my experience with this product. At the initial set-up, the recorded voice instruction sounded like it was playing on a speaker that was blown. After completing the set-up process, I tested the audio and sure enough anything played through this speaker above 35% volume sounds absolutely terrible. I plan to request a replacement to see if maybe I just got a bad unit.***UPDATE***I managed to get a low-light photo of the night-light that cannot be fully turned off and uploaded it as this revised review. Turns out the speaker on the one I initially had was definitely not working correctly. I ordered a second unit and returned the first one. The new one sounds much better. However, I cannot add any stars to my original review, since after installing it I found that the LED light never fully turns off. It can be a distraction at night when I need complete darkness to fall asleep. Thankfully this works as an AirPlay 2 Speaker and I've started to play white noise to it to help drown out the sounds of the city. So, I can justify continuing to use it at the price I paid (it was discounted by $100), but if I'd paid the full $270 I would not be keeping it. The always-on light would be a total deal-breaker for me at that price point.Updated***I removed one more star from my rating. This thing will randomly talk at you to let you know it’s disconnected from the WiFi for a brief moment. It’s really creepy when it happens in a quiet and mostly empty house and I wish there was a way to disable the WiFi disconnect voice alert.

1.0 out of 5 stars So much potential.
Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018
STILL NO MULTI-ROOM MUSIC. I really wanted to leave a 5 star review simply because this is a genious device, but unless some bad reviews are left, I feel First Alert won't pay attention and continue dishing out a half baked product. Let's do the shortcomings in numbered format:

1. Why would anyone want a nightlight to get brighter in the light? Autobrightness in nightlight mode causes the Safe & Sound alarm to get brighter when you turn on the lights. It stands out in a bad way. Nightlight should be *off* when the ambient light is bright, and increase to the brightness you set when the lights dim. (It currently gets more dim when you turn off the lights) Backwards thinking in my opinion.

2. When nightlight is dissabled, two green LEDs remain on to indicate the unit is receiving power. I like the reassurance, but it is SO BRIGHT! I *do not* find the brightness suitable for a bedroom. It casts a green orb glow onto the ceiling around it. I would prefer one green LED, it would suffice, or using the ambient light sensor to dim the light to prevent illuminating my bedroom in a green glow. Slightly depicted in my photo.

3. Temperature stats. This guy apparently has temp sensors embedded, but we can't access that info. Tying these sensors into our smart thermostats like Nest or Ecobee to control comfort in the room we chose would be 👌🏼. "Alexa, goodnight"; *Alexa, having been configured to control my thermostat and knows I like it 65°F when I sleep will now maintain that temperature in my bedroom until I tell it otherwise*

4. First Alert, fix the Onelink Home skill for Alexa. If you try to login to your First Alert Onelink account while adding the skill to Alexa, you will get a credentials error, even if your creds are 100% correct. Who lets this happen...?
****(Sept 2nd: Still broken over a month later)****

5. *This feature is coming in late 2018 according to First Alert* but I will be thoroughly displeased if the Alexa Music Everywhere feature doesn't make it to the device. Many companies enjoy touting concepts these days, only to not deliver. I suppose this also sits with Amazon working with third parties to make it reality.
****(UPDATE 24 April- Still no multi-room music. Amazon has released multi-room music to third party companies over 7 months ago but First Alert still says they will implement when it's released. :( UPDATE Sept. 2nd: Some updates were projected for "Late August" so on September 1st after I noticed no updates, I went to the product website. There are no more "updates coming" banners on the webpage slideshows aside from Homekit 2 compatibility. The projected August update has not arrived so now I'm worried)****

6. Speakers are good. They aren't great. I expected better sound but if Alexa is set to level 8, 9, or 10, you will think you are shredding the speaker cone it is so distorted. However, when music everywhere feature arrives, these puppies will fill your house with pleasant range at level 5 or 6. At the time of this writing, only one speaker can play audio at a time.

I love the idea of having a full fledged Alexa/Echo device hardwire mounted as my smoke detector especially since they legally have to be there. Installation is a breeze and it comes with multiple alarm power adapter and the option to directly wire it. These are premium devices and are only limited by their firmware as all issues can be addressed with said firmware updates. (Unless you want to blast the speaker at 10)

I will update my review as First Alert pushes the Onelink Safe & Sound to it's full potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it.
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2019
There are a lot of really nit picky reviews out there on this.
I would give this product 4.5 stars.
1. The sound quality is similar to an echo dot 3rd gen. Pretty pleased with it honestly.
2. Now in every room I can dim the lights, or turn on and off TVs using Alexa and don’t have to have an echo in each room or open my app.
3. The light feature is completely customizable to whatever color and brightness you want.
4. You can stop false alarms very easily or have it “ignore” things if you’re cooking bacon for example.
5. ONLY COMPLAINT- they don’t all link together for a “multi room audio” function. I’m not sure if that is coming in an update but if it did... 5/5 stars all day.
You’re getting Alexa, a speaker, and a smart detector that you can control and don’t have to push buttons or fan smoke away to get it to stop.
Idk what people are complaining about. The product does everything it says it does, and performs these tasks with ease.
Sure the app is not amazing, but after initial setup I’ve never used it once. There is no need to.
