Will Not Integrate with Apple HomeKit as Advertised
    1 Star
Will Not Integrate with Apple HomeKit as Advertised
I started my home integration with smart lights and switches. I have a single pole Wemo switch that installed and connected between the Wemo app and HomeKit flawlessly. They included a bar code for you to take a pic of and it did the rest. There was also an 8 digit code in the set up instructions you could use to enter manually also. That one was perfect and I couldn’t be happier. With that I purchased the Wemo Smart Dimmer F7C059 allegedly for Apple HomeKit. Install fine, connect to Wemo app fine, no connection to HomeKit. Read through all the “help” which was no help at all, updated firmware, nope. I can go into the hardware info and see that it says, HomeKit Setup Code NOT AVAILABLE YET.I called Wemo help number and got the ole standard recording all companies are now using “...due to unusually high call volumes there may be longer then normal wait times...”. Yeah, that told me they had one person answering the complaint calls for all the folks like me that can’t connect the devise to their HomeKit. After an hour of being on hold, I hung up. I called back later in the evening and after about 30 minutes on hold someone picked up. Told them the above and she said we can try rebooting the devise and see if that does it but understand this might not work sir. I said ok, its not working now so I have nothing to lose lets do that. We I’m just trying to set expectations sir that it might not work... I said why would you twice tell me that unless you do this 50 times a day with outraged Apple customers that can’t connect and you already know resetting the devise is a waste of time....But your trying to appear like you’re doing something to “help”...Rebooted and of course no joy. Then she said it might take 24-48 hours for the code to download to the devise from the cloud. Ah yes, the “time stall” reply to get me off the phone with her so she can move on to the next caller and repeat the same process with them and get no where....She mentioned this is a known issue for a few days now and they were working on it. A few days? In scouring the internet on trying to fix this “known issue for a few days” there are people complaining of this over a month, 6 months and even a year ago!She mentioned I might have to buy a Wemo bridge to make it work. I’m actually fine with that and if that is what resolves it I will for the 30 bucks, but they should just state that upfront instead of specifically stating no bridge required. They got a long way to go to make this work as flawlessly as their single pole switch does which is a pleasure to use from my Apple Watch. Unfortunately I can’t push the Wemo app to my iWatch which is why I wanted HomeKit...Not nice for them advertise erroneously a product functionality that does not work and they can’t solve but continue to advertise anyway...I have one of their Wemo 3-way switches coming today. I hope that works like the single pole switch and not the dimmer. Good grief! Not nice.Ok, Edited To Add: After contacting their “customer support” for help adding the dimmer switch to the Apple HomeKit as advertised, they couldn’t help me other than to suggest buying the WeMo bridge. So for $30 bucks I did and it just arrived. I installed in within minutes and was able to add my WeMo dimmer switch to the bridge and the bridge to the Apple HomeKit. I don’t care so much as having to spend the extra 30 bucks on the bridge to make this thing work, I’m glad it did work, it just is upsetting to me that they advertise it not to need the bridge and then without it, it won’t work as advertised. That’s just wrong. Just state the dimmer needs the bridge to connect to the Apple HomeKit upfront so customers know what to buy from the start. Or offer it as a package deal. That’s the right way to market your product. At least it does work. Thankfully. So anyone in my situation above, totally frustrated because you can’t connect it to AppleKit, buying the bridge is a viable workaround for the extra 30 bucks. Good luck!
